TGS07: Rumbling SIXAXIS accidentally revealed by EA
According to IGN, EA accidentally revealed the rumbling SIXAXIS to the press in its pre-TGS media briefing. The PS3 version of Burnout Paradise had a heftier feel to it: the controller was heavier and had a giant sticker that said "RUMBLE." With the cat out of the bag, IGN also added that "A formal announcement is expected tomorrow at Kaz Hirai's keynote address." Early word on Kaz's keynote suggests that other significant announcements will headline Sony's presentation.

Next Gen starts RIGHT NOW right sony fanboys?
What hypocrites...
NeoAngelicPrince @ Sep 19th 2007 9:53AM
I wonder how long it will take Andrew Yoon to delete all the comments in this thread...
vidGuy @ Sep 19th 2007 9:56AM
I'm surprised "waggle" and "gimmick" didn't make it into the post.
Well, here's to Sony's getting its head out of its ass on this one.
Calviin @ Sep 19th 2007 10:02AM
A controller that can rumble AND have motion controls? Sony is SO innovative. All the other companies really should start taking notice on what they're doing.
OH OH! I know the other big announcement. They're going to put a speaker into the controller too, so you can hear sounds from your hands. So innovative. WOW.
ill trooper @ Sep 19th 2007 10:04AM
God, what an unpleasant trolling child you are. Every thread? Go take a nap!
Vidikron @ Sep 19th 2007 10:58AM
Come up with something new. Thanks.
tenchi221 @ Sep 19th 2007 11:19AM
" SONY, come up with something new. thanks "
**fixed**
Kye (NDF - Earth Ring) @ Sep 19th 2007 12:01PM
Calviin, welcome to the NDF!
Egster @ Sep 19th 2007 12:13PM
And thus one fanboy accuses another fanboy.
Calviin @ Sep 19th 2007 12:17PM
Well thanks for the welcome, but what is an NDF - Earth Ring?
Myke @ Sep 19th 2007 5:02PM
So what if sony is being hypocritical about rumble. You guys bitch about everything. What about M$ downplaying HDMI and bigger hard drives. Ya'll need to grow up, get laid or just shut up and play some games. Sony and M$ are both heading up shits creek. Let It Go!
Calviin @ Sep 19th 2007 9:53AM
Other significant announcements...
You mean like bringing the price down to something remotely acceptable?
Firing the entire marketing group responsible how things have gone?
Or just more lame hype about Home?
JJ Rooster @ Sep 19th 2007 9:56AM
I'll buy a $400 system with rumble. Make it happen Cap'n!
JodyAnthony (VGDF) @ Sep 19th 2007 10:24AM
I'll be right behind you
baby sea tuna @ Sep 19th 2007 10:41AM
I'll third that.
Well, providing Ratchet and Clank is any good.
Karen @ Sep 19th 2007 10:53AM
I'm set to buy either a 360 or PS3 this Christmas. If the PS3 is $400 I might lean twords buying it over the 360 because the hardware is reliable. Rumble has to be included too :)
elmersglue @ Sep 19th 2007 2:55PM
@karen,
I don't see how you can be having a dilemma, and i don't see how a rumble controller would help push you one way or another. Either you like the games 360 has or you like the games ps3 has, it shouldn't be based on reliability.
Konny @ Sep 19th 2007 9:57AM
Hey Sony, can i trade my sixaxis for a rumblaxis?
Calviin @ Sep 19th 2007 9:59AM
A Shake and Shock?
Calviin @ Sep 19th 2007 10:04AM
Shake (motion controlls)
Rattle (rumble)
and Roll (I have no idea)
Jinn @ Sep 19th 2007 10:01AM
I thought rumble was last gen?
JL @ Sep 19th 2007 10:04AM
Think of something more creative please. I've had to read that same line every day for the past year.
ill trooper @ Sep 19th 2007 10:08AM
Well, Jinn, you're wrong.
vidGuy @ Sep 19th 2007 10:09AM
"I thought rumble was next gen two generations ago?"
Virduk @ Sep 19th 2007 10:21AM
It was. And lame at that.
It seems Sony has caved into the online fanbois.
Guybrush Threepwood @ Sep 19th 2007 10:02AM
Eh, rumble is kind of overrated, but I guess having rumble is better than not having rumble.
Is this going to be Immersion's "next-gen" rumble?
jsn @ Sep 19th 2007 10:04AM
What is next-gen rumble? Does it come with a virbrating dick-sleeve attachment that I can use to get myself off? god I hope so..
ThornedVenom @ Sep 19th 2007 12:31PM
Rumble overrated? Are you freakin nuts?! Well incorporated rumble is ESSENTIAL in modern gaming. Relying solely on visual and audio can only get you so far.
- Walking alone in a dark corridor... and all of a sudden, your controller rumbles for seemingly no reason at all, yet triggering your pavlovian reflex of fear because throughout the whole first part of the game, rumble was associated to enemies in the vicinity.
- Car racing, rumble slowly intensifying as you gain speed until WHAM, some other NPC car from the opposite direction smacks you with full force, making you feel the rumble as your car shreds into pieces.
- What about the deaf gamers?
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 19th 2007 2:24PM
Actually, having my controller rumble with the speed of my car in a racing game is my #1 argument against rumble.
I don't need my controller to vibrate to tell me I'm moving, that's what the graphics are for. Game designers are idiots.
James @ Sep 19th 2007 10:02AM
I thought rumble was last gen and didn't add anything to the game?
jsn @ Sep 19th 2007 10:02AM
yes (bleat) Sony zealots... for the bargain price of $50 you can have a wireless PS2 controller that (now)rumbles and should have been included from the start (bleat)....for massive damage...
ill trooper @ Sep 19th 2007 10:03AM
Cool, glad to have you back, 'Dualshock' or whatever you're legally going to be called.
ruibing @ Sep 19th 2007 10:08AM
If you want to blame anyone for the original sixaxis for not having rumble, blame immersion for the lawsuit.
Either way, I will probably get one, since I already have two sixaxis.
Jay @ Sep 19th 2007 10:44AM
Yeah, blame the people who had their IP infringed upon by the mega-corporation. It was Sony's fault for not just paying up in the first place like everyone else. The fault is squarely on Sony's shoulders. They just have an inability to ever admit that they're wrong -- it's always someone else's fault, blah, blah, blah. And, that is why they lost this round in the hardware wars.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Sep 19th 2007 10:11AM
Yarr – they spotted the Great White Whale o' 'ideo game controllers! Arrr, too bad they be such a joke at this point Gar.
Matt B (SDF ) @ Sep 19th 2007 10:18AM
I forgot it is national 'Talk like a Pirate' day.
comtar @ Sep 19th 2007 10:17AM
If Sony has learned anything, they will make the announcement of Rumble under the guise of "You asked for it, and we delivered." Saying the fans numerous requests made it happen... If Sony tries to take the spotlight by saying Rumble was some sort of natural change to the system, or something brilliant they came up with... they haven't learned anything.
After insisting rumble was last-gen, and beating it over our head we didn't need rumble. Anything else is backpedaling and they haven't learned shit.
jsn @ Sep 19th 2007 10:18AM
They've given us no reason over the last 10 months to think that they've learned anything, I seriously doubt they can do anything at this point to change that perception.
comtar @ Sep 19th 2007 10:23AM
I disagree partly, I think the redesigned PSP is a step in the right direction. Admitting the flaws of the PSP and addressing them was a smart move. It might be too late of a save for the PSP though.
In fact I joked with my friends that the redesigned PSP was the one reason they let go Ken Kutaragi. I bet someone told him about the redesign and he went off and said "NO It'S PeRfEcT! YOU CANNOT ChaAnG3 mY PSP!!!1"
All I'm saying is, the way they announce the Rumble to me will give me a clear sign if they learned anything or not.
MariosInferno @ Sep 19th 2007 10:56AM
Sure...similar to them taking it away when no one asked them to....
Calviin @ Sep 19th 2007 12:22PM
To admit flaws in the design of the PSP would take only one step. Replace the UMD drive with a flash-based hard drive. Games/movies on their media sticks and downloaded off the PS3 would be a step in the right direction, away from UMD.
riggs @ Sep 19th 2007 10:19AM
i swear to god all the "i thought rumble was last gen" shit has got to stop. just stfu about it.
James @ Sep 19th 2007 10:29AM
Simply put, no.
Danners @ Sep 19th 2007 10:30AM
Just like how everyone keeps bringing up the RRoD...
And how the Wii is only for mini games...
People just can't let go of their hate for a system they don't own.
NeoAngelicPrince @ Sep 19th 2007 10:33AM
WAIT A MIN...
I thought rumble was last gen?
vinny @ Sep 19th 2007 10:39AM
kinda like the sony boys with their RRoD shit?
MariosInferno @ Sep 19th 2007 10:57AM
Why, it's still funny...
riggs @ Sep 19th 2007 11:17AM
RRoD is in fact truth thats even being said by xbox fanatics themselves, the "last gen" quote was from a sony head trying to not piss off stockholders and staying away from promising anything, but of course im dealing with kids who have no idea how business legalities work. yay me.
Jake @ Sep 19th 2007 11:23AM
Sony fanboys really only have themselves to blame. When you drone on and on for the entire year while 360 was out and PS3 wasn't about how much better the graphics will be, the games, the bluray, the rumble, killzone gfx, Lair, etc. it is only natural that everyone rubs it in when the cookie crumbles.
I mean Sony literally said rumble was last gen, PS fanboys agreed and argued for it, then they added it later ala two gens ago. How the hell are fanboys supposed to not get a big ol' boner over that. It is perfect fanboy fodder.
This is just one of those threads that if you can't stand "I thought rumble was last gen" comments, then you just need to go to PS3fanboy and discuss what it actually means for games there.
Sorry, but this is Joystiq. Asking people to pass on this excellent fanboy trolling opportunity is like asking Brittney Spears to wear underwear when she goes out. It ain't happenin'.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 19th 2007 11:34AM
Um, I bring up the RRoD, and it's not hating on systems I don't own, since I own a 360 (and a PS3 and a Wii).
My 360 RRoD'd for the 2nd time early this month. This ensures I'll miss the launch day for Halo 3 just like I missed the launch day for Gears of War when my 360 RRoD'd last time.
Good thing it happened almost to the day at the same time that the Wii FINALLY got another game worth having (Metroid Prime 3).
