There are a lot of great DS games ... but not all of 'em are worth going gaga over. In fact, some are downright bad. Luckily, we've got a lot of games that are good enough to balance out the occasional pile of poo, but we want to hear about your recent bad experiences. Maybe you borrowed or rented something -- or worse, had the misfortune of buying it -- that just wasn't quite up to your expectations. Help everyone else out and share your stories.

Lost in Blue 2.
I loved the idea and the execution isnt all bad it's just that it's hard as hell and I find it difficult to give that much time and attention to a handheld game.
Touch the Dead, however, I would definitely buy again. Love that game.

I second Lost in Blue, with the slight difference that I only ever owned the first. I think I stopped playing after less than an hour--the rapidity with which the characters' vitals decrease just sucks out whatever fun the game could have otherwise offered.

New Super Mario Brothers and Puzzle Quest disappointed me. New Super Mario Brothers wasn't what I had expected. It was just really frustrating for me to beat which just sucked out all the fun for me. It's kind of the same thing with Puzzle Quest but I got frustrated with the ai constantly cheating which sucked out all the fun. And after playing for awhile it just didn't become the addictive crack for me like it became for everyone one else.

Monumental disappointment. I've learn't my lesson though. I'll never look forward to a game again.

New SMB was, I thought, ridiculously easy to beat compared to the old Mario games. The first game to disappoint me horribly was the Lunar game for the DS; but I bought it, since I collect that series. Total crap. The other one that got me, this RPG that you had to draw runes in that looked cool but I can't even remember the name of now, was just frustrating as hell. Didn't get too far in before I took it back and got something else. Picross has stolen my soul since :)

Hotel Yawwwwn: Room 215 was a colossal waste of time and money. That's my worst DS purchase so far by far.
My worst DS rental is MechAssault DS.

MLB 2K7 for the DS is the worst piece of garbage ever created for any gaming system. It's worse than the original RBI baseball for the 8-bit NES. I wrote a lengthy complaint 2K Sports after buying and hating the game. They won't be seeing my business again any time soon unless they start releasing quality games for the PC and DS.

I bought Lunar DS and Lost Magic because they were both super cheap, and they were made even cheaper by a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" sale. There's a good reason why they were both super cheap. Avoid avoid avoid. I should've listened to the people before me who said to avoid them. (I sold both to Gamecrazy during one of their bonus trade-in value offers so I wasn't out too much money, maybe I broke even. I don't know, I'm just glad they're no longer a part of my collection.)

WHAAAAT? That (Hotel Dawn) is one of my favorite DS games! It has little to no replay value, but the first experience is excellent, it has some sort of nastalgia, though from what I don't know. I love the graphics and the style they gave it, and the little puzzles they thew in were enjoyable.
My first disappointment was Metroid Hunters, I looked forward to it since launch, but it had very uncreative bosses (they were basically the same thing each time) and it had little challenging puzzles. I hope they amend the damage later.
My second disappointment was Starfox DS...I was expecting a mission based game like Starfox 64, all I got was flying in circles killing crap.

New SMB - crap. I haven't played previous ones, but that thing by getting mostly 9/10 reviews really for some time made me stop purchasing DS games. I was pretty much frustrated with it as the most prised DS games.
Mario Kart, beside MP, as well as Castlevania games and Metroid Hunter are pretty disappointing too. (Mario Kart requires some training to master all the tricks to go above 50cc ==> major bore and and pain in fingers. Castlevanias: beginning was OK; key-combos, boss fights and stupid dungeons made both games barely palatable after some time. Metroid: boring exploration flick with boss fights - and I hoped for some action.)
First game was (and it was reason to buy DS) Tetris. Which is very good. Thanks too Tetris, later Meteos and Nanostray, I have managed to maintain interest in DS and its games. Lost Magic, Picross, Clubhouse Games, Metroid Pinball, Zookeeper - I like too.

I 2nd Hotel Dawn: Room 215. I really wanted to like it, too. Trauma Center was fun at first, but it didn't hold my attention like I had wanted. Neither did the Ace Attorney game(s), for that matter.
I read so much praise for these titles, and wanted to "broaden my horizons" by trying them out. But none have done what NSMBs & the Castlevania games did by grabbing me, pulling me in, and not letting go yet.

Thus far, my only huge disappointment was Planet Puzzle League. It's the only one that was so terrible, I wanted to take it back. I'm still planning on trading it for credit at my local game shop.
Mario & Luigi: Partner's In Time was good, IMO....but so unbelievably frustrating at times, it makes me want to shoot myself.
But...uggh, Planet Puzzle League makes me want to seriously just rip someone's face off, mostly my own. It just...sucks.
I mean, if they can take Tetris, which I've been playing for like, 17 years on the NES, and make it horrendously entertaining again, why couldn't they do that with PPL?
No excuse what-so-ever. The game just needs scrapped and remade or burnt.
Oh...and Yoshi's Island: DS. It was cute, and could be fun, but after a few levels, it was just one big yawn, sadly.

NSMB was in fact quite easy compared to other traditional Mario games. I believe Nintendo wanted to strike a balance between new players who don't have much platforming experience and old players who do. Also, the reason why it is popular is because companies certainly don't make platform games with that kind of challenge (and quality) anymore.
Anyway, I genuinely would like to encourage people who found it hard to give it some time. Perhaps it's my age, but there are few things as satisfying as blowing through 2D platformers (especially Mario ones) once you know the game well enough. Good luck :)
Lunar was the major disappointment for me since I'm into RPGs. The Lunar series was always known for it's quality, so it was hard not to expect a hit.

I actually really enjoyed almost every DS game I purchased. The only disappointments so far were Lost Magic, which I got stuck on early on. My friend tried to warn me about it. I am still willing to give it another try. The other game, while not bad, just didn't live up to my expectations, Phoenix Wright 2. I really loved Phoenix Wright 1 and I thought the sequel was a step backward as far as the story and puzzles go. Also, I think I was spoiled by having that DS exclusive 5th mission with touchscreen functionality on the first game.

I didn't mean Hotel Dusk. I meant Hotel YAWWWWWWN because it kept putting me to sleep. I loaned it to a friend after completing it and he said the same thing, and didn't bother going through the first checkpoint. (As for the guy defending the game and saying it was awesome, but yet NOT knowing the name... Well, I have no defense for him.)
The dialogue for the game was just horrid. The main character's such a jerk (even when you're being "nice".) that nobody would ever talk to him in real life, much less open up to him and tell him their deepest, darkest secret.
The complete lack of a compelling story, the plodding nature of progress for the game, and the lack of real puzzles make Hotel YAWWWWWN: Room 215 one of the worst adventure games I've had the misfortune of playing.
