With less than five days to go before the biggest gaming event of the year, you'd better believe we plan on spending it in a Game Fuel induced haze of Bungie hotness. First up, the latest video documentary entitled "Cinema Paradiso" that not only walks you through the map editor, Forge, but also features some of the most jaw dropping multiplayer footage yet. We now fear, respect and lust after the Gravity Hammer all at the same time.
Speaking of walkthroughs, Bungie has put up a threepartseries on Forge editing as well as a lengthy FAQ on saved films. The good news is that they're still blowing our minds here. The bad news is that you can't create clips of your campaign footage. Minor doh.
Finally, today's Halo buffet concludes with a massive two hour Bungie podcast with special guests Joe Staten and Marty O'Donnell. So snuggle up, nation ... it's going to be epic.
What makes Halo so cool is the OMG! moments that happen so often. It's just made for those moments. That is why this video recording feature is probably one of my favorite additions. These moments make Halo great, but I don't think any of the games will ever live up to the hype people create around them. They're way over rated, but that doesn't make them bad.
If I wasn't sold on Halo 3 then that vid pretty much did it for me. I had no plans to do a midnight launch but since the blockbuster is right up the street, I think I might go ahead and get the game at midnight. Hell I might even go the whole geek yard and skip work that day. Last but not least, Blockbuster has a 10 dollar discount on Halo3 so thats another plus.
I'm right there with you. I was probably going to get this game, but I figured I'd wait a few months until everything died down. After this video I NEED this game. It looks amazing...
I just wanna add, that I can see a lot of "machinama-like" videos coming about from having both forge and the video recording feature. People come up with creatice things without a map editor... now think what they're gunna do. Although Halo 2 was not very innovative compared to the first one, Halo 3 looks like it'll more than make up for it with the huge leap Bungie is taking in multiplayer. Bravo.
I'm 27 years old-- should I still be this excited for a video game? Yes, yes I should. I had totally forgotten about saved films! Tuesday cannot be here fast enough.
But where were you guys in Christmas 1990 when the real most anticipated game of all time came out? It hit 18 million baby. You know what I'm talking about. We're all wearing the hat.
But seriously, who the hell "outgrows" video games? That's like outgrowing fun.
At that point, I was so obsessed, my parents did not want me to see "The Wizard!" I remember one of my friends was having a b-day party going to see it. I lied to my parents and said that we were going to see "Dick Tracy." For some reason, guns, violence, and sex was fine, but not Mario!
Holy crap, they finally brought back the song "On a Pale Horse". That was one of my favorite tracks on Halo: CE. Oh, and the vidoc rules. Can't wait to see the next big machinama.
One of my looming concerns has always been present ever since the beta.
What if it's TOO MUCH? halo was great because it was easy to pick-up and play combat, there wasn't 2 dozen weapons, there wasn't 4 types of grenades. I just feel like they might be messing up a simple combination that worked great by putting too much shit it. Yeah, forge looks awesome, so do the saved films, and they should add new features, but what i'm talking about is the new equipment, new weapons, more grenades, more vehicles.... I'm just worried it's going to over complicate from halo 2, which was enjoyable because it was so easy to pick up and play.
but all in all, it does look epic, and i will be outside of my local EB at 11:59 monday night drooling.
I think most people are willing to deal with a longer learning curve in exchange for new weapons, equipment and vehicles. All that should happen is make it tougher for new players and an extra level of strategy.
While Halo 3 might entice a few people to get into the series for the first time, the vast majority of players came in at Halo 1 and 2. For the few people that have Halo 3 as the first Halo game they own, there's a good chance they've had marathon sessions at their friend's houses anyways.
While I do see where you're coming from as far the complexity of the gameplay is concerned, it's really not that much of a stretch from the first Halo. Sure, to a diehard fan something as simple as a new grenade type drastically skews the way you play. But to someone completely new to the series, it's not that bad.
My only fear is that too many people will be playing with The Forge to keep Matchmaking palpable ;)
You are right on that one,Hell I can't shoot crap with the sniper rifle in the x360,seriously I have more luck throwing grenades in random directions(Especially in Gears of War) and now with 2 sniper rifles not to mention the spartan laser,I couldn't hit crap with that either.
Also I'm more the melee kind of guy.
But let's see what happens also you can design your map so is sniper only game or a Laser Vs sword match.I hope Unranked match kills count for the achievements unlike Gears of War.
That's a good point Grant. Hopefully it is clear enough that simplified games can be made without every single turret, weapon, grenade, and vehicle available.
Personally, I hate sniper gameplay and will probably make and join games with maybe one Spartan and no sniper. I like the more up close and personal combat.
Wait a minute, we can't make clips of campaign? Is this new, because as far as I know, this has been talked about all the time. Hell, the TGS vids were saved campaign clips. WTF over?
You can't make CLIPS. You can still save entire campaign videos though. From what I understood, each saved film will be of an entire chapter of campaign. Meaning, any particular ridiculous stunt of occurance that would have warranted a short clip can not be isolated out of the film.
Worse comes to worse you could always just have the timestamp in the description of the clip so you and your friends know where to look.
I don't understand how that's broken--with me and my friends playing as blue in that situation, we could own the blue team, assuming I don't suck (which I do compared to them).
By the way I meant to say own the red team. Anyways I see your point. But I've never played much for Custom games in Halo 2 anyway, and if I do any multiplayer in Halo 3 besides ranked and co-op, it'll likely be mainly Forge.
Yeah I don't know about anybody else, but every gametype /forge map I make I will try to make it either balanced* or just a map to dick around in. *(dropping a tank on someone doesn't count)
Dude Wicked!!! I'm going to fully pay for Halo 3 on my B-Day. And yes I will be one of the fools who will wait in line for the midnight launch. Seems that H3 will live up to it's hype.
Just watched this on the 360 in 720p and the graphics on this vidoc look spectacular... and keep in mind that these are from multiplayer (single player looks even better).
PAUSE at 0:11 and you'll see about 5 or 6 hornets/banshees flying around on Sandtrap... and all out mini air battle.
Monday night can't come soon enuff!!! The feature set in Halo 3 are top notch and congrats to Bungie on alot of work well done. I'll be picking up 2 copies (one for each 360 I have) for some 4 player co-op!
