gamermonkey @ Sep 20th 2007 1:00AM
I dont see any gameplay video.
CGamble20 @ Sep 20th 2007 4:32PM
People like you are so stupid.
Every single Metal Gear Solid video...every single one...is in game graphics, not some CGI video.
and they have already shown gameplay, 15 minutes worth.
JanJan @ Sep 20th 2007 1:02AM
Everything looks great, except for the sloppy framerate.
Or could that be my sucky computer acting up again?
Well then everything looks awesome
Wes @ Sep 20th 2007 1:08AM
Honestly, seems pretty choppy to me too JanJan. In MGS's defense it could be the way the video is designed.
Kind of a gritty real-life action film? Sort of 'look its a choppy shaking camera cause its just like you were there' like you see on some war-based fps game previews?
I hope. Otherwise, maybe optimization will help the frames per second over the next ...3? months till the games out?
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 20th 2007 2:02AM
MGS4 is coming out in Spring 2008, so it's more like 5 to 6 months.
emotaku @ Sep 20th 2007 1:08AM
Hint: They're the ones with the HUD in them.
Wes @ Sep 20th 2007 1:12AM
Anyone else think the guy in the third video really sucks at playing the game? I swear he only hit the enemy once before getting powned. He even had the element of suprised and could have at least tried to snipe one?
That or he had difficulties with the controls I guess.
ark_v2 @ Sep 20th 2007 2:47PM
You'll just have to change the difficulty settings. It's ridiculous how people say this is easy. Just go on hard and to the harder lvls after finishing it.
Negativecool @ Sep 20th 2007 1:15AM
Wow, I hope these gameplay videos are from the player just "screwing around ang getting a feel for the game." Otherwise who ever is playing this just lost all his gamer cred cuz they suck.
shawnpfiore @ Sep 20th 2007 1:15AM
Why does this person playing this game suck balls. Has he ever played a Metal Gear game,or is the game controls total different form the previous games. What ever the case may be, the same shit happened when someone tried to play the Killzone 2 demo. The person demoing the game played so bad I never finished watching the demo.
KsE 79 @ Sep 20th 2007 1:28AM
This is suppose to be one of PS3's killer titles? Sure the movie scenes look good (any system can do that) but the game itself looks like any other shooter. I am not even close to impressed with this.
I think you have to be a die hard MGS fan to really be excited about it. I have a PS3 and ill probably check this out, but no way am I hyped about it. So far, still nothing to get over hyped about for the PS3. Good thing I have a 360.
Mr. P @ Sep 20th 2007 1:31AM
How old are you, 12? If you don't understand the significance of MGS, you must be either really young or really ignorant.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Sep 20th 2007 1:34AM
what is its signifigance? did it inspire halo or something?
i played the original mgs back on ps1 for a few hours and didn't really care for it. Then i heard the sequels got really gay and never bothered trying them
Trev @ Sep 20th 2007 1:59AM
"the game itself looks like any other shooter." "Good thing I have a 360"
There's a game on 360 that doesn't look like any other shooter?
Mr. P @ Sep 20th 2007 2:02AM
The fact that you even mentioned Halo makes your post worth nothing more than a lol.
KsE 79 @ Sep 20th 2007 7:00AM
You tell me it's mighty significance? And actually no, I am not 12 sorry. YOU must be a big fan of the MGS series. I am not. Never got into it. I tried but it bored me and felt more like a chore to play.
As far as this significance, it doesnt matter what it is. This game is more for the die hard fans of MGS. You think as many people who are looking forward to Halo 3, are going to be waiting and hyped for this game? Not even close.
Sorry, not impressed. And to me it looks like it could have game play issues. Probably not as bad as Warhawk though. Im sorry, but I dont see what is so great about this game.
Ska Oreo @ Sep 20th 2007 8:08AM
Ok, this has got to stop. MGS fanboys stop trying to make it seem like the game has some significant impact on gaming culture(OMG MGS totally changes the way we think about gaming.) While the games are enjoyable(though I think I'll be staying away from MGS4) all it is is a game with a subpar story line(I know I'm gonna get flame for this but I've seen much better stories in movies and in other games)with bizarre shit thrown in just so Kojima can fuck with gamers. And that's it. Stop trying to make it more than it actually is. I mean from the way fanboys were talking about it you'd think this was the next evangelion.
Noshino @ Sep 20th 2007 9:53AM
"MGS fanboys stop trying to make it seem like the game has some significant impact on gaming culture(OMG MGS totally changes the way we think about gaming.)"
It did, just look at any list of greatest games, and you ll find at least one of them.
"While the games are enjoyable(though I think I'll be staying away from MGS4)"
mmm, If you enjoyed it as much as you claim, why not go for the 4th one?
"all it is is a game with a subpar story line(I know I'm gonna get flame for this but I've seen much better stories in movies and in other games"
haha, the story is awesome, and well ploted too, and well, since you came in defense of Halo which was being bashed, then may ask something, which has better story, Halo or MGS? ah, I thought so
"with bizarre shit thrown in just so Kojima can fuck with gamers."
ok?
"And that's it. Stop trying to make it more than it actually is."
err, isn't that same happening with Halo?
"I mean from the way fanboys were talking about it you'd think this was the next evangelion."
omfg, if you are comparing MGS to Evangelion, then I feel praised, thank you
Jake @ Sep 20th 2007 11:24AM
Dude. You say you tried MGS and never got into it. That's fine. Lot's of hardcore gamers hate stealth based games no matter how well they are done. If that is true, don't bother posting in articles about the game. The franchise is obviously good based on consistently excellent review scores and sales. Just like your beloved Halo, which many individuals also don't care for.
I just hate hearing people say "I never got into that series. Therefore, it is over-rated and stupid because my opinion is more valid than millions of actual gamers that consistently purchase and enjoy it." You are not particularly important or special, despite what parents and middle school teachers tell you. As you get older, you'll learn that.
elmersglue @ Sep 20th 2007 1:36AM
graphics look nice, gameplay, eh...not so much. The floating leaves reminds me of the COD4 beta.
Dr. Nooooooooo @ Sep 20th 2007 1:42AM
4 games across 3 consoles and they STILL can't get the lip sync right. I can't tell you how much that has annoyed me over the years.
upz @ Sep 20th 2007 10:24AM
In the past that was because the lips were synced with the Japanese voices - same issue with FFXII. This time, though, it's tough to be sure. The lip syncing in this trailer is off, but perfectly on in the E3 trailer where Vamp says to Raiden "Will you be the one to finally finish me?" Best case scenario: the lip syncing changes based on your in-game language settings. Entirely possible since all the cutscenes are in-engine. Whether it's probable or not is another story.
xGabrielx @ Sep 20th 2007 1:44AM
I love how the only way to actually get Gamevideos to work is to go to their site and download all the movies.
antmonkey @ Sep 20th 2007 1:53AM
looks like call of duty 4. Need a better feed though to fully judge it.
mfed3 @ Sep 20th 2007 2:03AM
seriously, every time i see gameplay it makes me cringe. same annoyances that were in mgs2, horrible ai and lame combat. circle circle circle, why cant i freaking aim at who i want to aim at?!
ugh i dont even wanna get this when it comes to 360, so many better games in the same genre (assassin's creed / splinter cell: conviction). all i wanna see the new story.
loungemonkey @ Sep 20th 2007 12:13PM
So I take it you have never played a MGS game past the first since you can obviously go into First Person view and shoot whomever you want.
But, please, continue to spread the hate.
PaleGringo @ Sep 20th 2007 2:22AM
Wow.. what have we seen so far?
Arguably the biggest title for the WatchStation 3, MGS 4 hasn't impressed me all that much. I've seen gameplay that looks nothing like the CG cutscenes, Snake ground humping to move towards enemies, barrel roll attacks, mens magazines (with interactive pages no less) and rookies found in barrels who "aren't done yet" with their pants around their knees, and who run off bare assed and farting.
Sounds like a winning game, fanboys. Anybody want to place bets about how this will stack up to other notable game launches in the near future? Think that MGS4 will set global records? You guys are dreaming. Put down your mens mags and keep both hands on your controller. At least you'll be getting your "last-gen" rumble back this spring. I'm sure Sony will make it a free replacement, right?
Night Elve @ Sep 20th 2007 9:02AM
Did Microsoft replaced you your old 360 with the new one you know the one that nows comes with a HDMI port?
PaleGringo @ Sep 20th 2007 10:44AM
Touché. No, they did not. My TV is older than HDMI though, so it has marginal impact for now. My next set will have that, though from what I hear, some people are having problems using HDMI to their screen and getting more than stereo sound.
Not to dodge the original comment, though... I want to know what fanboy sees in the overly eccentric cutscenes and demos so far that would make them want to play this game. It looks boring, bland, and at times, offensive. For somebody who has had no interest in ever jumping on the MGS series to see what all the hooplah is about, I can't see this installment changing their opinion.
elmersglue @ Sep 20th 2007 2:29AM
you sunnavabitch. Ban this guy please
stracenska @ Sep 20th 2007 2:40AM
"There's a game on 360 that doesn't look like any other shooter?"
Bioshock.
I swear, though, after Heavenly Sword, Lair, and seeing this the PS3 is pigeonholing itself as the system with all the great cut scenes and average gameplay.
BTW I own both systems, so I'm really counting on Drake's Fortune to pull through.
GoonieGooGoo @ Sep 20th 2007 2:42AM
How many acronyms, codenames, and 3 letter abbreviations can a friggin' game have?? If that trailer is anything like the real game....I'm going to be lost in the opening 30 minutes.
tpnmvz @ Sep 20th 2007 2:47AM
Am I the only one who thinks that Meryl's hair looks like a big hair shaped block? I mean, it doesn't seem to flow like others' hair.
And I know that I am not the only one getting tired of MGS trailers that don't seem to end. It seems like the one who edits these trailers love the "surprise" kinda ending, but they didn't have to end with 4 of them strung together. It is almost predictable, and I just knew they had to tack on those "comedic" scenes right before the end. These trailers have the worst gimmicks that end a movie trailer cut up all together here.
ivanv4 @ Sep 20th 2007 7:48AM
lol, i was thinking the same.
maylon @ Sep 20th 2007 2:55AM
Well, I could be an ass and bash this game like sony fb's bash Halo, but I won't. Just not my cup of tea is all.
Brian B. @ Sep 20th 2007 3:04AM
OH GREAT, my browser is dancing now to a rick astley song now .. :(
Bdub? @ Sep 20th 2007 3:08AM
Hey moderator, ban this guy.
Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Sep 20th 2007 3:17AM
Hideo Kojima just announced that the TGS demo is coming to the PSN very soon. Man I hope it is tommorrow or rather 2day. More than likely it is not.
Bastard11 @ Sep 20th 2007 3:21AM
There has been no CGI.. all of the trailers have been rendered in real-time in the game engine. Kojima and crew do utilize a few special effects that aren't enabled during gameplay when they have the extra power to spare but non of that was pre-rendered.
It has been this way since MGS1.. none of the games use CGI clips.
Chris Daniels @ Sep 20th 2007 3:34AM
Stupid Americans can't appreciate a good game when they see one, go bad to halo you fanboi's.
HineyWipe @ Sep 20th 2007 8:05AM
Learn how to speak/type so us stupid Americans can understand your bloody stupid comment!
Cellien @ Sep 20th 2007 11:46AM
American's like to actually PLAY games not sit and watch while half of the game is a soap opera video. Same goes for JRPGs vs American RPGs.. American games involve less watching and more playing.
Anticrawl @ Sep 20th 2007 4:14AM
Wow I watched the 3rd video and it made me laugh, this is the killer app for the ps3? Seriously going to have to try a little harder to get me in on this "ultimate HD gaming experience"
I remember loving Metal Gear on the NES but with each sequal I seem to enjoy it less and less(more so than the average sequal). I would blow my brains out playing this game. I'll stick with more typical shooters on the 360 for now and save platforming for the Wii. Do a little bit of the rpg game on both and just sit out for what the PS3 has to offer until I see something I like. Plan on getting all 3 eventually.
Kennie @ Sep 20th 2007 6:21AM
Wow, that's some bad voice acting right there.
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 20th 2007 7:31AM
Thank you for pointing that out. None of the MG games have ever used CG cutscenes... all of them have used the in-game graphical quality. And without framerate drops as well...
Adam @ Sep 20th 2007 8:00AM
Oh dear god! Those videos are so incredibly painful to watch. That has to be the most awful playing of any metal gear game I've ever seen. I'm curious if the person has ever played an MG game in their life, or if they're a button mashing monkey with MS?
Kazi @ Sep 20th 2007 8:07AM
lohl
Kazi @ Sep 20th 2007 8:08AM
glad I have FireFox with NoScript
Kazi @ Sep 20th 2007 8:14AM
Geh, damn this reply system.
Anyways, the games looking good even though who ever was playing sucked pretty hard. Meryl's hair is kind of freaking me out, too. I've never really liked MGS because it's more of a movie than a game. Cutscene after cutscene after cutscene with some decent boss battles. But this is still looking good.
Evan @ Sep 20th 2007 8:41AM
MGS4 looks very... BROWN. The environment in those videos looks more like KillZone than MGS and MGS2.
