Disney/Square/Enix fans will be happy to know that three new Kingdom Hearts titles are on the way, as Square Enix announced brand new titles in development for the DS, PSP, and mobile phones at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show.
1UP reports that these will be three entirely different titles, although all three will share the theme of "time." Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep will be headed for the PlayStation Portable as a single-player action-RPG romp in the same vein as its PS2 brethren. Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days for the Nintendo DS is a full-3D game starring Roxas from KHII, and featuring simultaneous four-way multiplayer.
The final title, Kingdom Hearts: Coded, is being developed for mobile phones, and features the original Kingdom Hearts cast in a story that appears to take place in between the first and second PS2 games.

By releasing a game for each console, you are effectively ruining your fanbase's pockets.
With KH3 probably slated for PS3, a KH fan would require
(1) cellphone
(1) NDS
(1) PSP
(1) PS3 (60GB, in order to have no trouble running PS2 games)
I'm glad I didn't like KH2 that much, because there's no way I'm buying all that, even for this game.

FYI, both Kingdom Hearts on PS2 have no issues running on the 80GB PS3.

Oh, and we're likely to never get the mobile KH game. Our cellphones suck for gaming, compared to JP phones.

Well, the way Kingdom Hearts 2 was setted up, you didn't have to play Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories to understand it. But, by playing it, you got a different perspective on the story.
By not playing KH:COM, you got the story from the perspective of Sora, who has no clue what's happening, who what has been done in the past two years.
By playing KH:COM you got the story from Namine's perspective, who knows what has happened.
I can see a similar idea occurring with the PSP and DS versions, though, it might be more complicated with two separate games.
I've been sitting on the fence about picking up a PSP and a DS; I think this news just pushed me over the edge to pick up either one of them or both.

Is it just me or should Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days be released on the 300/60?

hey this works for me as i have all these consoles. only thing is, im not completely thrilled about buying all these different games for different consoles. i dont play cellphone games, so that means i need about $80 to get my Kingdom Hearts on, not to mention another $60 for Kingdom Hearts 3 whenever that comes out on PS3.
i can also see how this could pose a problem for Kingdom Hearts fans that dont have all these consoles. i think they could have done a better job with this actually. they could have at least done it like Final Fantasy XIII/Versus XIII (which i think is also a stupid model) and had all of the games on all the mentioned consoles.

Ouch, sorry that DS owners get stuck playing as Roxas. His three hours of the game were the worst. :(

Hey, it made me loathe his character, that's all that counts.

Yeah, however you get rewarded by playing through those shitty first few hours with the most awesome boss in the game at the end of it. KH2 should have had more unlimited dual-weilding, drive forms, although fun... Where intrusive to gameplay and just made the game feel slow outside of them. Dual weilding should have just been given to you near the end of the game, as a kind of "okay, you've endured this crappy story and this unproductive gameplay, here, have dual weilding. It's fun!"

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if KH3 came to Wii instead... If they make it at all, that is.
Lower development costs (since FF13 is going to eat up a lot of S-E's resources), wider install base, and more appropriate market (Mickey = kids like!).
That's just my take on it, anyways. Who knows what they're planning.

Since SE LOVES the DS at the moment for it's money-printing properties, and they can get the help of Jupiter (who developed Chain of Memories and Subarashiki kono Sekai) it makes sense for them to dump it on DS. It has an incredably high install-base, low development cost and it takes advantage of the popular Kingdom Hearts franchise. $$$, Cha-ching, Ding ding ding, etc.

Hmm, for a post that contains the phrase "simultaneous four-way" I'm strangely unexcited. I have to know the story behind the title for the DS one though.

Well, CoM only covered 4 of the main characters.
It could cover Roxas's story, or kairis.

Everyone except people awaiting Kingdom hearts 3 and an explanation to that hellish war in the uber hidden KHII ending...
Why does FFXIII Vs. have to occupy Tetsuya Nomura completely?

@Sheppy
The hidden ending takes place in the upcoming PSP game. It's a prequel,to my disappointment. Sure I figured since Square-Enix made a prequel to FFVII so might as well put a prequel to every single money-making property. Well, looks like Im getting this one since I have a PSP. Except that it probably take 2+ years to get here, since we know how Square takes long with localization. Eg:Crisis Core
I knew there was something coming to the handheld consoles, since FFXIII isnt even finished yet. Im sure AFTER FFXIII is done something might be out for a platform,PS3 or the Wii most likely.

How the crap is the Mobile game going to take place between KH1 and KH2? KH1 lead straight into CoH, and CoH lead straight into KH2...
There isn't any breathing room... unless they do something stupid, and base a game around Sora getting his memory back while he's asleep.

True, Sora's story is strung together in the current three games, but there is a lot of room with both the Organization and with Riku's side to expand the story of Kingdom Hearts. Since the DS game seems to be focused on the Org13 and the PSP's Birth By Sleep is a prequel, it's pretty safe to assume Coded would be focused on Riku, DiZ or Namine, or even Radiant Garden/Hollow Bastion.
