Top 5 desired app list causes us to reflect on our own desires

Some sort of official flashcard to store things downloaded from a special Nintendo Online Store. Similar to the VC, but instead of interfacing through the Wii like so many suggest, why not tap the much larger DS market directly? Give 8GB of semi-cheap flash rewritable memory, access from Nintendo WiFi Connection or game stores, and maybe throw in a certain number of free downloads to offset the cost of the card itself. There could be classic games (GBA, NES, GBC, etc), demos, videos, etc.. similar to the kiosks, but with a much bigger selection and you'd get to keep the stuff after you downloaded it.

From Nintendo I want WPA support in the next iteration of the DS. WEP has been thoroughly disgraced and discredited. You can buy pirate wireless routers which will automatically crack your neighbors' WEP keys so you don't even have to do it yourself. WPA support is long overdue.

How about an app that helps SNK Playmore not make Metal Slug 7 look like Ass?

I think a good media player is pretty overdue. I use Moonshell which is great, but feels like I'm navigating through Windows Explorer. Something more iPhone-ish with nice fonts, clean lines and a halfway decent interface.

VOIP is great, but until you have Skype status on the DS, it's not going to take off.

I also believe that DSOrganizer was the best idea to come along in a long time for the DS. Just update the interface and you have an excellent suite of programs.

For everyone that's talking about Opera. It's terrible. A good browser is needed, but only if its implemented in a practical fashion for the DS. Even if its just text and a good way to see CSS and ASP pages, that'll be a lot for most of us.

I would love some kind of app which would interface with games which let you draw things (usually logos, icons, flags, decals, etc), allowing you to transfer images made elsewhere.

Ok, that wasn't very clear. On the net there are a number of mini drawing programs which allow you to emulate the drawing engines of games like AC:WW, so that you can draw what you want online or even import an image file and have it converted to the right resolution and palette.

The problem is, you then have to try and tap the result into your DS pixel by pixel with your stylus.

I would love to see an app which lets you pop these designs right into the games.

If possible, I imagine it would be quite challenging...

As well as downloadable games and (most importantly!) demos! Nintendo just need to copy what M3/R4 does - and make it official. I would be buying games - because I already tightly tied into R4: I carry all my games with me all the time. All the beauty - on *single* microSD card.

If it would be able to double as audio player that would be good. Though it is very very very optional: DS is too big and MP# players are already small enough to be lost in my vast pockets.

First of all, x-ray vision, i'm sure you they can create some camera which will let you see through buildings and all that.

2. a car alarm activator/deactivator. i come off the train from work usually playing my ds, and this would be very convenient.

3. a 3rd class laser attachment, or a flamethrower attachment, how many times has someone annoyed you while you're trying to play your favorite game, and you thought "arg, i want to injure him but he's a little too far" ?

4. it should have a swiss army 'miracle blade 3 by chef tony' attachment that would fit perfectly into the game boy advance game area, it would go GREAT with the new cooking menu game.

5. a decent AI with emotion, a pretty face, and the ability to talk back. i don't believe any of us is joking when we say we LOVE our DS, let's be able to take this relationship to the next level, not just physically with game play, for what is a solely physical relationship, i want a machine that will talk back to me, one i can break up with and play donkey kong jungle climber with the next day when we make up. *a single tear rolls down my cheeck, which i grab with my tongue and swallow*

Stick an RF or IR dongle in the GBA slot, make a touchscreen universal remote. somebody has to be doing that already, right?

I would like it if, when playing cooking mama, anything you made came up out of the touch screen, and you could eat it.

an app that can send pics, music or other data via wlan to an another ds would be real nice

Speaking of killer apps, I'm looking for someone with DS coding experience to help put together an acupuncture guide for DS homebrew. I've been using my stylus for pressure point therapy for over a year, it's the perfect size! Would love help with getting the acupuncture maps tagged and formatted. A simple app that can show battery life in percentage and estimated remaining time would be very nice.

I wholeheartedly agree with #1. Also WPA, as thats what I use. I have been thinking of having another access point soley for the DS, but that seems a bit odd. They need to have a Wii App that will upgrade the DSs firmware so that it can upgrade itself in the future. WPA and the whole works. But having a built in download service using a GBA adapter would be awesome (or they could just use a DS Cart, like the CycloDS.

Personally I'd be happy with a decent PIM app. Contacts list, Calendar, Notes, To-Do List. Even some simple im or email type program. The touch screen makes the DS perfect for this type of app....Nintendo could even bundle it with an official flash card unit for storage.

@2- I have a WEP secured network, and you said that it's easy to crack. Unless you're a hacker, I don't think you'll be able to crack it. I looked on the internet and I don't see anything about a wireless router that can crack WEP. I don't think that's easy to get a hold of, so I don't think I'm worried. Because honestly where do you get that kind of stuff? Walmart? Target? I'm just curious what website actually sells that kind of stuff.

AIM/MSN

I know a money printer already exists, but when will it be available for us?

PFD attachment. Seriously, games are great, and it could be a rockin' organizer... but I have it on me -at all times-. If it can't save me from drowning, what is it good for?

AIM and MSN clients already exist and are quite nice. As does a couple great weather apps, IRC clients, DSOrganize, which has many features, including the ability to play web radio and a mostly-text browser that actually works quite well so far.

Some sort of official download service would be really great though. Either through store kiosks, wifi, or via the wii. It could probably use the ram expansion card to store downloaded content temporarily (while it remains on, like the gba could) or with an official micro-SD card adapter. How cool would it be to buy a game on the wii, play for a bit, then have your DS download it - saves and all - so you can play on the run? When you get back, transfer save back to the wii and you lose no progress. I can already do this with snes roms on my DSPCPS2xbox, so why not make it something official? cmon ninty.

As for media players, meh. Moonshell and DPGPlay are both quite nice, but the screens are fairly small to actually watch something worthwhile on. I carried a few episodes of beakman's world on my sd card to watch on train rides when too tired to play. But mp3 playback is fine as is, and they released an official player in the UK. Not to mention datel's games n music thing, which given it's name can play music.
Best bargain is getting something like an R4 and 2gb card, or a cycloDS and a nice SDHC card with a bit more storage space, load it up with homebrew/backups/music/videos, and be good to go.

There was a Linksys router that ran Linux, so boot up a custom distribution and run the right apps and viola, access point that does the cracking for you.

I'm not going to tell you how to crack a WEP code, but it really is easy. The hard way is with separate programs, one to listen to the data and another to crack the encryption, or you can find one program to do it all. This gets the job done in a completely passive manner. There are much faster, but obvious, methods as well.

For the DS, I would love to be able to use just WPA. A Nintendo released MP3 player and note pad would be good too. DSOrganize has really cut down on the number of things I need to carry, from separate mp3 player, notepads, pens, date book, to just a single DS. Very useful. MSN/AIM/VOIP would be nice, but not something I actually expect to see released.
