It's sad, but it's a fact you're going to have to deal with: The Call of Duty 4 beta will be coming to an end on Sept. 30. But, hey, don't think of it as the end of a beta. Think of it as the beginning of a month-long wait, at the end of which you'll able to pay $60 for the game that you've been enjoying for free. ... Hmm, let's move on, shall we?
This also means that if you had been putting off trying to get into the beta this is probably the opportune time to get up on it. It's going to be a crazy finish too, as the level cap is apparently being raised to 25 near the beta's end on Sept. 28. But let's be honest: At that point, will many people still be around to care?
[Thanks, Alexander]

Agreed; it would've made more sense to do this today so the weekend is available for them to track results. I have no doubts folks will still be playing the beta come September 28th (for a whopping couple days), but it will definitely greatly diminish due to that other small Halo-something game coming out on the 25th...

Lets hope the constant lag issues are sorted when it goes gold eh? Good game, but still a few things to tweak

Well it started freezing for me last night in a free-for-all match at about midnight British time. Maybe when theres loads of traffic in the US it affects the British connections. I don't know what could be the cause, and I don't care really. All I'm saying is that in the last few days I've been playing there have been some issues when playing. I've spoken to many people who have had similar problems.

You guys must not play much then because there are definatley some lag issues. It really depends on who the host is though. This is pretty much all I play and probly 1 in 10 games will lag. I have business class roadrunner and know its not my connection.

Yeah, it goes the other way too... Expect a lot of curious or disillusioned Halo peoples to be migrating over to the retail release of THIS game a month later.
My wallet will be buying Halo3, but my heart will be thinking of CoD:4 Trés Moderne Combat.

So we will have a day or two to go from level 16 to 25?
Lame.

Sounds like they're testing their marketing machine to see the amount of players still playing the beta after the 25th. I know I'll still be loving CoD4 a little more, I prefer the real-world tactical games just a bit more than teh Haloz. Still, I'll buy teh Haloz in the meantime. :-) 4-player co-op ftw.

after this first level increase didn't they say it was one of many? Does one addition equate to many? As for the lag its certainly there but for me its very rare, maybe 1 in 8-9 games.

I guess that means a single-player PC demo is coming in October.

Honestly, that was the first thing I saw too. I then read the article in hopes of seeing a PA mention. Lame.

well i may indeed be spending more time with CoD4 this week even though I'm gettin Halo 3 since it's closing soon. Save Halo 3 for the month i'll be without this awesome game.

I can't believe I actually won one. Guess I'm much more wittier than I thought I was.
