I thought they had a post about wanting to sell it to some one else... I guess that didn't happen. It would have been cool if someone else could have ran and paid for the server necessary though, it was a really helpful site.

This is sad, but this is really something Microsoft should be doing now anyway. I mean, could you imagine going into a shop in the street and buying a T-Shirt without being able to see it first?

It's a bummer that it is closing. But this is a classic example of what happens when two guys make a web site thinking that someday people will care and buy it. Was a good try but there really isn't a good way to monetize a site like this other than charging people money and all the users backlashed about that.

Couldn't they have atleast kept the themes that were already there and not add new content? I also never knew this site existed until this post. I've always wanted to buy a theme but never wanted to risk it. Same goes for gamer pics. I know quite a few are on the xbox website but not all. Does anyone know if there's a gamerpic site that does what dashbaordthemes.com did?

FUCK!!!

I loved this site! Its really helped out on whether or not a theme is worth even to download (even the free ones).

This site will be missed.

I hope somebody picks up on the idea behind this to because between Xbox Pipeline and xbox.com we need a better alternative.

so, they just toss the whole thing instead of passing it on to other willing developers? lame.

This is a damn shame. Ditto on the person that said this is something Microsoft should have been doing themselves. I hate buying a theme and then realizing it was a big pile of crap. Most of them are thats why this site was so awesome.

Oh cool thanks polar let check out the bioshock theme and gamerpic. Oh wait there not not there. That site is always late to the party. And dashboardthemes showed you exactly what it would look like on your tv. Dashboardthemes I will miss you.

Although a good idea the site still never had previews of the themes I wanted to buy. Xbox.com is so slow in updating their pages with new themes and dashboardthemes.com never posted the less popular themes. They wanted donations to buy the themes so they could post them but I always thought they should just allow users to grab screenshots and upload them that way nearly every theme would be available to preview. I also wish there was a gamerpic preview site like somebody mentioned. MS should be able to have a preview of the theme or gamerpic right there on the blade where you purchase it. Oh well, they just want you to use your points blindly and that's what's happening.

Well I guess I'll say farewell but after registering to DashboardThemes, I never really saw many updates from them and when they would it wasn't a big range of themes.

It's the same with a lot of the other websites that try the same thing. I now just go to xbox.com to look at various gamerpics and themes, even though they don't show everything.

Thanks for pointing xbox.com theme preview out. It probably doesnt have every preview up but it probably has the most popular ones. I never ordered one because I don't want to buy it without seeing it.

I never visited this site, but if there is a call in the user community for something like this, I may be willing to pick up the torch. I would need some creative consultants to assist with ideas. I am a web developer, so I should have no problem giving the community what it wants. It sounds like we need a site that relies less on the owners to update and allows the users to contribute. If you'd like to offer up your ideas, hit me up. My GT is "Dr Pantz" Does anyone know how to contact the former owners?

I feel horrible, I never knew it existed, luckily I haven't spent any points on bad themes yet, but I've wondered if something like that existed for quite a while, and now that I know, it's dead. :(

What a terrible name for the site. It should've been named DashboardWallpaper.com... because there is no way for us XBox360 end users to create themes.

An for the hard of thinking, no.... wallpapers are NOT the same as themes. There is a significant difference between creating a single background image, and the ability to skin each dashboard blade.

Hello, This is for Dustin Burg if he would like to update the article and or everyone else.

Just so everyone knows, DashboardThemes.com was put up for sale Aug 16th 2007. As the dead site itself mentioned, no updates occured in one month due in part to a possible sale which no one really knew about I assume.

However, with the site's revenue being as low as it is at $150.00, probably fudged, even lower. This site is mostly a goodwill gesture to the community.

I actually looked at purchasing it, but even at 3,350k offered, it's profit cycle is pretty much zip-o unless the market expanded and hopes for a buyout by a bigger firm. Anywho, link is at the bottom. GT = SunGod

You can view what I am talking about at http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/11873

This is indeed sad news. I loved checking their site for previews on the dashboards.

And to the comment that says Xbox.com previews them, they are not always up to date. They never listed the Bioshock gamerpics or dashboard theme that are listed in Marketplace. That's where Dashboardthemes.com came in handy.

That sucks to hear. They had a great layout. They didn't get all the new themes because they were in Canada (I think). They did a great job but it was mostly out of their own pocket. Sad to see a site that did what MS should have been doing in the first place go.

It's time for MS to step up and start offering previews for themes and gamerpics. It wouldn't hurt to remove the block of ads they run on the blades too. I like to see the theme I just paid money for. Not ads.
