GT5 Prologue priced: ¥4,980 on Blu-ray and ¥4,500 download

Tucked away, quietly, within the pages of Sony's TGS press catalog, is the final pricing for the Japanese release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Now scheduled for December 13 (as indicated by Famitsu earlier this week) the game is listed as ¥4,980 ($43.10) on Blu-ray and ¥4,500 ($38.95) for the downloadable variant. Though the game features many of the functions of the full product – scheduled for a 2008 release – it's still considered to be a sampling, in part intended to "keep people aware [Polyphony Digital is] still around" (as told to us by the game's designer, Kazunori Yamauchi). We're not sure if this price will extend to the European and North American releases of GT5 Prologue, but we've asked Sony for clarification.

A "tech demo" is a prototype, an incomplete version of a product. What is Wii Sports a prototype of? Is it incomplete or something? Was it announced as a big sprawling sports epic? I must have missed that press release.

I think I'll get the demo first and see what I think before I consider dropping money on prologue....if the physics is as bad as in GTHD then I'll pass, if things get back to GT4 physics or better then I might get it for the online play.

the Prologue games aren't demos, they're small games.
they aren't for regular folks either, they're for Gran Turismo nuts.
bottom line, you don't have to buy Prologue, and if you do, you don't have to buy GT5, and if you buy both you're probably a Gran Turismo nut.
This is really no different than all the people who bought Crackdown to get play the Halo 3 Beta.

There IS a difference. With Crackdown, you got a FULL GAME with a demo of a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME.

None of you own a PS3...so shut the hell up.
Aren't you supposed to be in a line at 7 Eleven sucking down a Green Slurpee waiting for Halo3?

The difference being there is no line for ANYTHING on the PS3? Except of course if you count the line of disappointed ebay scaplers I saw at Best Buy that time.
Loser. Crank is an accurate description for you, tool.

One day, long, long ago, there was this gamer blog where surprisingly, no one was whining, nagging or bitching ........
But this was a long time ago.....
and it was just ONE day.

In the PS2 era, there was no such thing as a downloadable demo. In the PS3/360 era, they are commonplace and free.
The Forza 2 demo had 24 cars. Many demos have had online multiplayer. The Dirt Demo had 3 tracks.
Prologue would have counted as a budget game last gen. But this gen, I am having a hard time considering it more than just a really big demo.
I mean, aren't demo's things where you get a little piece of the full game early? How is prologue not a demo? Perhaps the tracks and cars are exclusive to Prologue?
Bah. The whole thing stinks. Stinks I tell you. ;)

Don't mean to troll or anything but will these guys ever release a full game?? There is A-spec, B-spec, prologue, HD, version this, version that etc. But no full game.

Comparing a $10 map pack on LIVE to a $40 partial game/demo isn't quite the same. Gears had DLC and if you waited it became free about 2 weeks ago. Why does anyone bring PC gaming comparisons in here anyway. If we wanted to spend our evenings searching for patches and mods we would still game on a PC.

So the SDF will pay OVER $100.00 to play the same game but with added online features/cars...LMAO!!! This is MADNESS!!!!

If this is worth 40$ then we can assume the full game (60$) will have like 8 tracks, 60 cars.

I want to play this since I'm a car nut...but this is a damn money trap. Polyphony should've:
1)Release the "free" demo
2)Then release the full fucking game
Screw it,I'm confused now...

O-K
So from a consumer's standpoint, this is gouging at it's finest. A demo is traditionally free for Christ's sake! I'd be happy with a freebie demo, with 5 cars and 2 tracks....free.
From a business standpoint, this is a good way to recoup the production costs. I mean seriously, what do you have to lose if it would have been free anyway right?
-just my thought

they should have either released it for $20 or $40 with a $20 coupon off GT5 full.
$40 for a prologue (Sony's marketing word for DEMO) is a little steep, imo.

omfg, if you guys bash the 40 dollar prologue so much, then dont fucking buy it. Why don't you guys go and play your stupid pay-for-play online service you brag so much about.
Posted: Sep 22nd 2007 3:20AM (Unverified) said
A pay-for-play service that costs as much for one year as PS3 owners will be paying for one demo.

Okay. This is just ridiculous...and people were bashing MS amidst the rumors that they would charge for a Halo 3 demo months ago.
What do you think this is? I don't remember MS charging for the Halo 3 Beta, or Activision charging for the COD4 beta?
I mean, that's basically what they're doing here. $40 for a game that is "intended to be a sampling".
No thanks.

Who will buy the download I wonder...
I mean, the game will surely get 10 or 15% off on amazon Japan and thus will be cheaper than the download, for which you don't even get packaging and stuff.
