How many of the idiots saying "OMG, them hacker will now cheat" know the Xbox security architecture?

How many of you in that group know what signed code is? And how many know that running modified code or data (off a burnt DVD or original DVD or off hard drive) will BREAK the cryptographic signature meaning that the hypervisor WON'T allow it to run?

What I'm saying is that if ANYONE alters the game executable/game files, the digital signature breaks and the game doesn't start at all. AT ALL.

There folks who are getting the copy early on CAN'T cheat even if they wanted to. They have the *SAME* odds of cheating with a modded DVD firmware as someone who buys a retail console - zero.

I actually wish that it's possible to run unsigned code (i.e. home makde software like XBMC) but ONLY in NON-LIVE mode. The hypervisor has the ability to verify signed/unsigned nature of the game and then accordingly allow/disallow live (not internet, just live).

Don't hate smarter people. Hate ignorance.

I had Halo 2 a month before it came out. That was the day I had a guy mod my Xbox, put an 80GB hard drive in it and load it up with about 23 games....including Halo 2. Fresh that day. It. Was. Sweet. Very sweet.
Now, you ask yourself....did he take it on live? Nope. Did he try to cheat whatsoever? Nope. Was it wrong......that's up in the air.
I bought Halo 2 Collectors Edition the day it came out, I supported Bungie, I paid to play. In that way I think as far as Halo 2 goes, what I did was fine. And the other games? They were outside of my favorite genres. I would've never bought them, ever. Games I wanted to support, I bought. Games I wouldn't buy, I copied em and enjoyed em for a while, then deleted em.
In my opinion what these people are doing is fine, if. If they buy the game when it comes out. If they don't try to cheat. If they don't leak the ending. Pretty much what it comes down to, is that it's fine when it has no impact on anyone, at all. If it affects someone in a negative way, that's wrong.
MyPS3.... I feel the Xbox 360 is superior to the PS3 based on software, hardware, support, and cost. However, that doesn't mean I go on PS3 Fanboy and say that. Until I'm agitated by someone's actions or words, I just stick to myself. Things might be a little more harmonious for everyone if everyone stuck to that rule. All fanboys alike.

@ Titty Pink
"12. I don't know about needing Live, especially for Halo. XB Connect had better games, and more options. For instance, if I wanted a TS game no radar with 15 people I could search for that on those terms, not being thrown into random shit just to be ranked. Plus, my buds could come over and we could all play online...together...for free. Can't beat that with a bat. If you download video and use the marketplace often, sure, but if it's just for Halo there are better options..."

You fail to mention that in order to use XB Connect you need a pc. Many of the people that play Halo are casual gamers, meaning that the reason they play halo online is because they just have to turn on their xbox to play. That's why they bought the thing in the first place; it's easy to use. That is why XBL and Halo have been so successful in getting people to play together online. They don't want to make it harder by adding more steps to the process. Players like you and your friends are in the minority. The average gamer is a white guy in his late twenties or early thirties. He has a job with a decent income that allows him to have an expensive hobby like gaming. An extra $50 a year for a gold subscription is nothing; it's a very minor expense and one they are willing to pay without a second thought.

I got my 360 modded and also got 6 games for $100 bucks. I just saved myself a TON of money. It's definitely worth it. Am I going to hell? I guess I'll have to find out. Meanwhile, I'm going to by playing my freshly burned copy of Halo 3, which by the way, KICKS ASS. It is extremely fun. I few of my friends got their's modded from the same guy and we've been playing 4 player co-op and multiplayer levels all day. But then we had to go camping so haven't got to finish it yet. It's suprisingly easy to get. Obviously not going to say how because that would make me less special, to be perfectly honest. To those of you who think that I'm just a jackass and want to feel specia: You really do wish you had it right now and if you did, you'd feel special too and would be loving it. I got Halo 3 on the 21st by the way. And NO I haven't signed on live because I'm not a friggin idiot. And yes it works perfectly and the modification ONLY modified the DVD drive itself. And it doesn't void ANY warrentees if you do it right. I will see you on live...just not quite yet:) Enjoy the rest of the wait while I play it.

so i have a question for everyone that looks on this website:

If you are playing Halo 3 on PC online, and one of your friends is playing Halo 3 on an xbox 360. With you and your friend online at the same time, can they play each other?

It would be great if someone could reply to this, I would like to know before I go out and buy Halo 3 for my PC.

Thanks,
Amanda
