New Afrika trailer is not very helpful
This new TGS trailer probably gets closer than ever before to suggesting that you'll actually need a controller to take in the Afrika [working title] experience. If this clip is any indication, you will be taking pictures of animals, and also driving a jeep through a herd of them, which seems inadvisable at best. Don't miss TGS 08, when Sony will unveil Afrika [working title]'s petting mechanics.

My money is on an AIDS simulator.
plyx @ Sep 21st 2007 11:57AM
Dude! That's not P.C.!
Sean @ Sep 21st 2007 12:09PM
I'm bad. :(
Jerk Face @ Sep 21st 2007 12:14PM
Ha ha.. what an ass hole!
Mogaar @ Sep 21st 2007 12:45PM
Wow Sean, I certainly hope you never have to suffer through AIDS. Douchebag.
T3H WICKERMAN @ Sep 21st 2007 12:43PM

Sean @ Sep 21st 2007 1:21PM
@Mogaar: Twas just a joke. I hope you don't have to suffer through AIDS either.
@WICKERMAN: You've lost your marbles. Lion King rules.
The1 @ Sep 21st 2007 1:28PM
You are a freaking MORON and you will contract that disease before you die.
Burritoclock @ Sep 21st 2007 1:44PM
Jesus H. Christ people, I thought it was funny as hell. Lighten the hell up you bleeding heart baby's.
upz @ Sep 21st 2007 1:53PM
Aww c'mon. Whether you were offended or not, that was witty as hell.
Ethan @ Sep 21st 2007 2:11PM
Doesn't he make a good point, though? Aids is a serious problem in Africa. Not in the national parks, granted, but we have little info on the game, and vast expanses of savanna isn't the whole continent, it's a very varied country. AIDs, however, does affect the whole country.
My main problem is that the animals appear to be posing, or behaving in very stereotypical manners.
Shagittarius @ Sep 21st 2007 4:29PM
Now your stereotyping animals? When does the racism end?
Adam Sutherland @ Sep 21st 2007 11:49AM
Why would Sony show anything about gameplay when there are fantastic graphics to gawk at? Gamers only care about graphics anyway, right?
Benny @ Sep 21st 2007 12:19PM
I know I do.
Adam Sutherland @ Sep 21st 2007 12:21PM
Feel free to play boring games like this in awe, then.
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 21st 2007 12:53PM
I still say they should throw in the guy from "MAN VS WILD" to squeeze 'water' from elephant dung. That's gold right there.
Fimble @ Sep 21st 2007 11:52AM
Obviously it's a photography game. I guess that the developer thinks that the animal AI is so good, you don't need any actual gameplay.
NATO_Duke @ Sep 21st 2007 12:55PM
Obviously? OK dude - I would argue it is not obvious as they haven't said a thing and people keep asking. I seem to recall taking pictures in Bioshock. Guess that was obviously a photography simulator too.
I also argue that its obviously a trample simulator where you go through Africa and get trampled by incredible creatures. Can't wait for the virtual bushdog trample map!
Dave @ Sep 21st 2007 1:07PM
It looks like a racing game. You race zebras and lions and alligators in your jeep!
Matt B (SDF ) @ Sep 21st 2007 11:50AM
If I had to take a wild guess, you could be a photographer hired to get pictures of animals. Or they could make it fun and you could be a poacher, but I'd doubt they would do that.
Sean @ Sep 21st 2007 1:38PM
A poaching game would be AWESOME. Except, yeah, unlikely, and the working title would be something like Ivory Rising or Grand Theft Rhinoceros Hide.
Patrick @ Sep 21st 2007 11:53AM
Looks like Pokemon Snap to me.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokemon_Snap
Jerk Face @ Sep 21st 2007 12:16PM
You know, Pokémon Snap was f*cking awesome.
Just saying.
I think a game like that can be fun once in a while. Even better - this game won't be on rails, you know?
I'm down.
Mr Khan @ Sep 21st 2007 6:19PM
This game seems to be, from what i can tell, Pokemon Snap meets Forever Blue/Endless Ocean
Seems like a good idea, and this trailer is certainly more evidence than the cryptic explanation given at E306 "Its a game that plays itself"
Joshua @ Sep 21st 2007 11:53AM
Pokémon Snap.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Sep 21st 2007 12:20PM
That was the same thing I was thinking,Pinky boy.
Joshua @ Sep 21st 2007 5:46PM
Narf!
plyx @ Sep 21st 2007 11:53AM
Suzuki Samurai FTW!
Peacefuloutrage @ Sep 21st 2007 12:09PM
Aw man, I remember when they used to sell those, but stopped because they would roll over at something like 25-30 mph. Considering it was a bunch of high school students buying them, that wasn't a good combination.
On Topic:
The game looks interesting. I bought Seaman out of curiousity but ended up enjoying the outlandish banter of the character. It may be something that is not only interesting, but relaxing at the same time (like looking at fish in the aquarium).
Austin @ Sep 23rd 2007 2:45PM
A while ago, Game Informer said that Afrika would be a photography game.
Besides, the animals look great, but everything else, not so much. I was really hoping for a safari simulator with rideable animals and stuff.
ALH @ Sep 21st 2007 11:54AM
still looks too bleached out to me,some of the animation is nice though
trademark @ Sep 25th 2007 1:03PM
it's probably just gonna be like that under water game for the wii (can't remember name) just like an "exploration" game
greatslack @ Sep 21st 2007 12:02PM
Another PS3 tech demo?
Egster @ Sep 21st 2007 12:43PM
No just another game for the PS3 that caters to a wider audience. Sorry if you only like shooters.
greatslack @ Sep 21st 2007 12:51PM
Actually, I hate most shooters. In fact, I'd say that shooters are guilty of "tech demos" more than any other genre of games.
IlyaG @ Sep 21st 2007 12:08PM
This "game" is worthless without Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
(Let's see how many of you kids even know what I'm talking about...)
lauren @ Sep 21st 2007 12:13PM
With the right TV and sound system I would sell tickets for people come see me play this game (it's a game right?).
LBM played in my small ass city a year ago. It definitely would be a hell of an experience with them providing the music to the game.
People could Google it too...
GRANTED @ Sep 21st 2007 12:17PM
i hope we get to kill the animals.
if there is character customization im playing as michael vick.
Noshino @ Sep 21st 2007 12:37PM
If there are shotguns, Im playing as Cheney
GRANTED @ Sep 21st 2007 12:51PM
i love destroying beauty
Will @ Sep 21st 2007 1:45PM
It's like the Gran Turismo of the animal world.
RedJoggingSuit(MSDF-Battle Angel) @ Sep 21st 2007 12:28PM
YAAAWWWWWN![Working Title]
Maybe it's like pokemon snap, that was fun...for a bit.
Drew @ Sep 21st 2007 12:29PM
The fur on the lion's mane is so last gen.
Fladam @ Sep 21st 2007 1:34PM
BORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRING.
I'd rather be playing Carnival Games. No, seriously.
not likely @ Sep 21st 2007 1:44PM
I heard with very few modifications (models and lighting) they will be releasing a similar title called "Vegas". With petting mechanics and all.
TheWarden @ Sep 21st 2007 12:41PM
My Afrikan wild animals... Let me show you them!
Evan @ Sep 21st 2007 12:42PM
This is getting ridiculous, it's been over a year since Sony started parading around videos of Afrika, and we still haven't seen gameplay or a potential release date. This game must be really, really epic, or it must be really, really difficult to produce the game on the PS3.
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 21st 2007 12:52PM
While we're jumping to conclusions, let's start a rumor that it's going to be on the X360. Or better yet, on the Wii, so we can smack the rhinos and spank the monkeys...
...wait, forget that last part. o_o; They're already drinking in the buff in MGS4.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Sep 21st 2007 12:44PM
looks like far cry 2 with less guns and more happy
or maybe all the animals will turn into vampires at night and hunt you
T3H WICKERMAN @ Sep 21st 2007 12:46PM
f u ass ! I grew up with the sesame street crew, im 26 and still trying to forget. For you younger folks you have heard them refereced on the Venture Bros. and Family guy.
