As a PC fps gamer, I'll never understand why people even like Halo. Its second tier there.

I guess being the best on console means something. But is it really better than Bio-Shock or the Orange Box? I just can't get over the console FPS grandma speed. I like my FPS games fast, but joysticks just put the game at sunday drive speed.

I'd agree with you 100% about PC FPS, I remember all the fun playing the original halflife and the firearms mod and the original UT back in the day. Then out comes this Halo which, I thought was looking awesome as an RTS, but they made it a console FPS, so I figured I'll give it a try. Hated it. I was like WOW! This POS is MS's masterpiece? the story is very weak, the gameplay so so, honestly I like red faction better in those days.

Then Halo 2, I figured ok, the hype for this must mean it's totally improved. Went to pick it up, played about 3/4 of the way through on co-op with a friend, right up until the arbiter flying the banshee around part. Though to myself wow, this game is the same crap, you step forward a couple paces, take a few shots, then step back to recharge and the enemies forget all about you... Still utter trash. So I filed the game away and forgot about it.

It wasn't until we got underway and I brought my xbox and all my games (including halo 2) and we started playing 6-8 player system link games that I really started to love this game. There is somethign about sitting next to your buddies, accusing them of "screen peeping" and trying to fuck them up enough to deliver that grenade, or shotty blast, that makes life worth living.

I tried it on live, but really didn't get into it. Now that my wife is getting in to games, and like to talk the smack when she wins, I'm pretty excited about 3. I might play throught the campaign with her, I don't know, but more than likely we won't finish it. The game isn't about the story or the controls or any of that for me. It's about the friends coming over and you know what they will want to do...

im sorry, but any reviewer who gives this lower then bioshock has lost all credibility. Ive played the game and Ive played bioshock. Bioshock was fun and all, but less then a week later, there was no incentive to play it again until years later. Thats loses points in my book. Halo 3 has infnitly more replay value (even in the 1 palyer mode with co-op). Not to mention the game is just short of perfection.

If you like FPS style games and dont buy halo, your either not an xbox 360 owner or a have something wrong with you.

SOrry, but after the appauling overhype given to Bioshock (which in my books is a 7/10 game at best due to many reasons which the story/theme cover up for most) there is no way Halo3 was ever going to be 'as good as they said'. I imagine it's technically better than bioshock ( I mean works as it should with less bugs and stupid design decisions ) but it's obviously less cutting edge and 'more of the same'. So obviously a pretty average game.

Gears Of War still feels great to play, looks better than both aforemention games, is a year older than them and that's only a 9/10 from me (8/10 if only singleplayer).

360 still has the best games this gen so far though.

I prefer FPS games on my PC, but bioshock is even worse on PC, and Halo 3 will be if they ever get around to sticking it on there (in 3 years).

There has been one game that had monumental hype and lived up to it:

Also:
Sonic 2
Super Mario World

That is all.

Would you like saved films feature, forge gameplay mode, online/local/LAN co-op and multiplayer, competitive co-op, 11 modes per map, and easy level editing in your amazingly awesome PC shooters?

I own Bioshock. It was great, but that is 20 hours and done. Even if you favor PC shooters, most people will want to play more than the 1 or 2 at the max games that come in a YEAR that you guys constantly talk about.

And joystiqs are fun too. Kicking back on the couch and playing with some friends is great. Yes, the aiming is slower and more challenging. For me, that doesn't make the game less fun. I like PC shooters too but hunching over that keyboard by myself twitching about has its drawbacks too.

Halo 3 is currently scoring the same as Half-Life 2, and many reviewers really haven't had time with most of the features. So, er, what's your point again?

My point was:

Some people are saying Halo3 cannot live up to the hype.

People said that about HL2, and it did live up to the hype.

Therefore, it is possible Halo3 can live up to the hype.

Yes 99% of hype is overhype, but honestly Bungie can't pull any punches, everyone knows what they're getting, so I think Halo3 will match everyone's expectations, and these early reviews confirm that.

Again, comparing Halo3's graphics to GoW and Bioshock??? Any 'reviewer' that does this is not smart enough to be reviewing games. If you are so stupid as to not notice a difference between small environments with few characters and larger environments with larger numbers of characters, then you are not qualified to 'review' video/computer games.

As long as there are drawn-out fights with the Flood in twisty corridors that all look the same, now thats the Halo experence. Finish the fight, indeed.

Can PC snobs please die. I have played HL, it was a great game. Counterstrike is fun also. But I have picked up and hand WAY more FUN playing Halo with my friends. Just get over yourself and the fact that you spend way too much on your damn computer.

Yeah I know right. It really pisses me off that pc fanboys think it's their job to save everyone and tell us constantly how HL is better than Halo. That's fine. Too bad no one gives a flying fuck. The fact is whether it is true if HL is better than Halo doesn't matter, Halo is a kick ass game.

About the graphical "gap" between H3 and GoW: Isn't H3 running at 60fps, while GoW is 30fps?

If so that should make a big difference. I know it was a false rumor that H3 was 1080p, but even 720p at 60fps is going to look, and more importantly play amazing.

An appreciation on the review:

You CAN actually record clips on the campaign mode. The game stores automatically the last few (20 or so) played games on your HD. Then you can go to movie mode and playback the one you want, record clips out of it, and share with your friends.

It's an incredible feature, and works like a charm!

As in the begining of the last gen there are 3 systems trying to pull as many users to there side as possible. Well it seems that this time microsoft has finally won me over. As I was a PS2 guy last time I am now denouncing Sony. Sony you lied to me. You promised me a super system that had near cinamatic graphics; but tried to sell me a polished turd, that has graphics worse than the 360 on a standard TV. Your system wastes power running games at a ridiculosly high resolution and high Anti-A that can only be appreciated on the huge HD TV I don't own. Again it all makes since now, I should of known better, how can you be better than the 360 when your stuck in DX9 land with the rest of the current systems. But then came the 360, as with all systems it has its downfalls, RRoD, but I'll risk it just because sony you don't have a single F-ing game I want to play anymore. GoW, any Halo, Oblivion(which was n Ps3 but who gives a F--k.). Sony you dissapoint me every exclusive I wanted to play, Assassins creed, RE5, you lost because of your general crappiness. Sony I will never love you again you two-timing bitch. And just a note to any of you still loyal to the two-timing bitch just because you hate the microsoft monopoly of computer systems. You can't escape it even when you buy a mac you're still paying Gates. He owns 25% of Macs stock. Windows on Mac and Ipod compadibility on 360 make sense now ;). I'm now forever a Xbox fan. Halo 3, any gears of war that makes it on the 360, Assassins Creed, you're my heros.

I disagree with this quote:

"mainstream consumerism is always going to judge prettiness first, performance second."

I think mainstream consumers judge performance first. Look at the success of the Wii.

The entertainment value of a game is what matters most for the majority of consumers.

I know this game is going to be a hell of a lot of fun, but it's amazing how many 10/10 and high 9/10 scores it's getting considering the amount of flaws and problems pointed out in every single review.

The fun factor and great multiplayer may very well make it a 10/10 game, but most of the reviews read like a 9, if not a solid 8, especially for the campaign.

That first 10 minutes REALLY had me worried. Than the graphics got good (no means great) and the level design got better. I am loving the campaign but when it comes to a death match give me COD4 (beta YES) or Vegas. The circle strafing and super jumping just never worked for me. After playing Bioshock and Metroid Prime 3, I felt the level design and layouts to be a little uninspired but I know Bungie was puttin the love into the multiplayer, which was an easy business decision. 8.9/10 for me.
