Can you imagine? Katamari rolling to PS3
While at the Tokyo Game Show, 1UP was able to confirm with director Jun Morikawa that Beautiful Katamari would not be arriving on the PlayStation 3. But, fans of rolling take heart! Morikawa says that the series will "definitely be making its way to the console soon," just not in the Beautiful Katamari state.
So, will this be the Katamari that evolves the series at least a little bit past the roots established in the 2004 original? Well, what does your heart tell you? Because ours is walking away, shaking its head and laughing, which we can't imagine is a good sign.

It'll be an XMB screensaver.

HA! KITTY! HUG KITTY!
konajinx @ Sep 24th 2007 5:52PM
Joy. Now all the PS3 fans who said "Who cares? No one likes Katamari games anymore" regarding Beautiful Katamari can all now rejoice and try to claim some small victory here.
loungemonkey @ Sep 24th 2007 6:04PM
Who the hell said that?
konajinx @ Sep 24th 2007 6:14PM
loungemonkey, plenty of PS3 users said it over on the official PS3 boards at the time that Beautiful Katamari's exclusivity would belong to the Xbox was first announced. It surprised the hell out of me, because everyone I ever knew who played the other two really loved the series, including myself. Still, it was compounded by other humorous statements such as "Who cares? We're getting Lair!"
Ah well.
NATO_Duke @ Sep 24th 2007 5:52PM
Oh damn, now we have to buy it and we dont even know what it is yet. Those kitty cats do it every time.
LaughingTarget @ Sep 24th 2007 5:53PM
Katamari is the best example of the hardware going completely to waste.
Geist @ Sep 24th 2007 7:17PM
Katamari is the best example of the fact that you don't need bump mappings and shaders 29.0 to have a really good game.
Markusdragon @ Sep 24th 2007 10:46PM
Seeing as the PS2 wasn't actually capable of running the entire game-world without several mid-level loading screens, I suspect it's actually an example of a game that needs the extra processing power for something other than graphics.

So which version will the Wii be getting dammit? Or do Wii get another 3rd new console-exclusive sequel? This is starting to piss me off. I need to roll you up into my life!
Lemmiwinks @ Sep 24th 2007 6:00PM
Of all the stuff from the PS2 that's been ported over to the Wii, Katamari is the one that I would actually want!
Anni @ Sep 24th 2007 6:05PM
If only there was a system out there that would work so awesomely with Katamari's premise. With some kind of.. motion detection.
Bidoof Protection Military @ Sep 24th 2007 6:16PM
Motion-sensing controls?! Are you insane?! Who would ever construct such a device?
Geist @ Sep 24th 2007 7:17PM
I agree with Bidoof. Even if someone makes something that wild, it'd never sell.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 24th 2007 10:03PM
How the hell could a game "sense" motion? What does that even mean?
Mr Khan @ Sep 24th 2007 6:07PM
Yeah, BanDai-Namco's ignoring the wii in this manner is one of their more peculiar decisions
Also, that may possibly be the cutest picture i have ever seen
Wonderflex @ Sep 24th 2007 6:16PM
Gotta love the anti-PS3 propaganda again. It's always so odd to see how stories morph between their PS3 fanboy versions, to their Joystiq versions. It's as if the second they reach Joystiq there is no hope of it ever being a good game - even if it is.

I'm the only one imaging himself rolling kittens rather than playing katamari?
I would like to roll puppies or ferrets but kittens will have to do.
Bidoof Protection Military @ Sep 24th 2007 7:09PM
A cat is fine, too.
Rob Accomando @ Sep 24th 2007 7:00PM
First Juggling cats, but rollie kittens.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Sep 24th 2007 8:10PM
What about Kitten huffing? or the traumatic NEDM.
Ratchet the Lombax @ Sep 24th 2007 7:07PM
I've always loved the Katamari games so I couldn't care less what bloody system it comes out on. I'll get the 360 version and if and when it comes out for the PS3 I'll get it for that system too. I do think it would be interesting to see if they use the sixaxis controller to roll the Katamari around, now that would be very cool.
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Sep 24th 2007 7:18PM
if you didnt know, the picture is being rendered by teh cellz in the PS3 aka da black tower of power, feel teh power play beyond! it sold well on the PS2 why would the series vanish from the PS3. you guys are dumb.
Jay @ Sep 25th 2007 11:59PM
well said my friend. well said. I loved the katamari games on my ps2. Wish it defiantly came out for ps3.
Kamall @ Sep 24th 2007 8:04PM
And what of 360 owners saying Eternal Sonata isn't that great now that its also coming to PS3? Stupidity and assholicless isn't exclusive to Sony fanboys you know.
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Sep 24th 2007 8:17PM
No,the assholicless is all yours.I say Eteranal Sonata is great.
In my case I don't think I will buy a game for a month after halo 3 unless it is Rise of a ninja or Tag Force 2.
Also I already got Oblivion GoTY Edition so RPG wise I don't think I will ever have to buy a RPG until 08 but I would like to check eternal sonata someday.
Clutch_beast @ Sep 24th 2007 10:28PM
I'll take katamari in any form I can get it, rehash of the original or not. I know that I am one in a million in saying this, but I love the original Katamari Damacy perfectly, like an only child, and, similiar as the gameplay was, I loved Everybody Loves Katamari equally, like a second born child that was in a tragic plane crash with the other child, but miraculously survived, so now you treasure each moment with him even more, because now you have to love him enough for the both of them. Hold your babies close, everyone.
Will @ Sep 25th 2007 12:55PM
Love the cats!
