Crysis demo delayed until Oct 26 -- spurred by Halo effect?
If you were expecting to play a new futuristic online shooter tomorrow on your PC, we've got some bad news for you. Crytek has announced that the Crysis demo has been delayed from its initial September 25 release. Instead, the one-level trial will hit the internet on October 26.
Additionally, Crytek has announced that the originally-teased "huge surprise" coming with the demo is the CryEngine 2 - Sandbox 2 game editor, now also due out next month.
Though they are on separate platforms, we can't help but wonder if this delay was in some way influenced by the oncoming flood of Halo 3 copies invading gamers' cerebral cortex tomorrow. Master Chief is very likely going to overshadow everything, Bratz notwithstanding, in the near future. Crytek's official reasoning is that they needed some extra time and did not want to risk affecting the November 16 release date.

Ross's point exactly.
Though I'd like to think that the entire world does not revolve around Halo, it sure seems like it this week.

HAHAHAHA Scared

Wow. Frigging lame.
Why do gaming companies always do this? They always have to wait until the absolute last second to decide that their game needs a whole extra month...

Well, considering the Halo hype train, they don't want to get derailed PR-wise.
Besides, with such a high-end game for the PC, they'd probably wanna punch out the kinks and make the game compatible with more hardware.
I'm all for a quality demo that will work with my already-obsolete DX10 card.

oncoming 'flood'
halo pun, double point.
Jake @ Sep 24th 2007 1:51PM
It is almost like some kind of gravity based melee weapon knocked Crysis right into next month.

this is over a week old. Looks like joystiq is officially caught up in the halo hype, as Crytek announced the delay in the middle of last week.
I doubt the majority of us PC Gamers would choose Halo over a Crysis demo anyway, and I think Crytek just wants to make sure the SDK is functioning the way they want it too, and of course they want to optimize the demo as best as possible. Even still, there's plenty of room to have both Halo and Crysis, not sure why there is a need to pit one game against the other....
If anyone wants to get their Crysis on right now, get a fileplanet sub, I've been in it for a few weeks now. Gorgeous is an understatement, and it's pretty damn fun on top of that as well....Also, the Frontlines Fuel of War beta started as well, it's a ton of fun as well, but very very buggy compared to the Crysis beta...

But all know Crysis is the better game. Halo 3 is a piece of s**t, it's has simple as that.
Abuzar @ Sep 24th 2007 4:57PM
Wow are you kidding me?!! Halo already had good review, while I don't see crysis with ANY!
Crysis could suck ass and you wouldn't know, now would you?
Babel @ Sep 25th 2007 12:41PM
You can't type properly and you're an idiot,
Simple AS that.
Phill @ Sep 24th 2007 3:11PM
lol.. Definitely not the case. I've been playing the MP Beta, and it is pretty buggy. Under the NDA I can't really say anything about it, but I'm 99% sure the reason for the delay is to get rid of some of these bugs.
Shawn @ Sep 24th 2007 3:25PM
the public build we have is not current, although it does say Sept 13th i believe, it's much older. I do think you're right though, they are surely working on many of the bugs/optimization.
Phill @ Sep 24th 2007 3:57PM
I thought they released an updated client? I got into the beta late, and the client was labeled something like release 2 I think. I can't remember the date though, I'll have to take a look.

NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr Khan @ Sep 24th 2007 5:51PM
I doubt the PC users would want to dirty their hands with Dual Analogue, so i don't think this is the reason
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 24th 2007 6:29PM
Crytek's reason for the delay is that spending too much time making the demo could push back the release date.
ZippyDSMlee @ Sep 24th 2007 8:17PM
Lets hope its not like bugoshock and be a bit more polished....
GoonieGooGoo @ Oct 9th 2007 2:07AM
Well.....considering I built my new computer to spec to run games like this.......I gotta get this demo.
I don't really expect my computer to bat an eye at it......but we'll see.
In the meantime......HALO 3!! :)
