New Halo live action clip unleashed before Master Chief's arrival
Despite not having a Halo movie to direct, Neill Blomkamp continues to make live action short films for Microsoft about the UNSC's struggle with aggressive Covenant forces in the minutes before Master Chief arrives on Earth. The combat is close and erratic, and the production value is noticeably improved over the previous two videos, and the violence has also substantially increased.
We're really digging Blomkamp's style, but honestly we're not sure how well it would translates into a feature-length film -- it almost seems better suited in the short-clip format we've been privy to. Right now the only place we know of to see the video is at the Discovery Channel's website;let us know if you find an embeddable version. Update: YouTube version embedded after the break. Thanks, nelson!

That was awesome. Best Halo ad yet.
Obie @ Sep 24th 2007 4:17PM
Nice! Really well done! Those brute spikes seem way nastier here than the actual game!
LAboy @ Sep 24th 2007 3:50PM
wow, this one is really awesome, hopefully as sign of a halo movie in the future:)
Andy @ Sep 24th 2007 3:56PM
"let us know if you find an embeddable version." it's in my IE cache, and now re-encoded to mp4. why don't you do the same?
0ldb0y @ Sep 24th 2007 4:05PM
Those Brutes are . . . brutal?

Oh hell yeah...that shit was dope. More than makes up for the 1st two....especially the 1st one. Glad someone wised up and gave Neil some props and money.
I think he could do a decent movie based on this one.

That sniper shot was sick!

That rocket shot was sick!

MAKE THE MOVIE ALREADY!!!
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Sep 24th 2007 6:43PM
Peter Jackson must direct Halo The Movie him or the director of the Bourne movies
CaptNink @ Sep 24th 2007 4:27PM
Loved the rocket launcher at the end!
CleftAsunder @ Sep 24th 2007 4:29PM
Loved the rocket! He blew that brute up! hahaha

i think this sort of "screen testing" is designed specifically for short clips, more of a demonstration of the effects possible. note that MC isn't in any of these clips, it's obviously not a scene or meant to be indicative of the feel of a feature-length.
my guess is that the intent is to show any prospective takers that they can produce a realistic live-action sequence. unfortunately for the fanboys, it's not going to be as much of a comic-book epic as the game.
Neebs @ Sep 24th 2007 4:44PM
MC was there, just in meteorite form.
Balla360 @ Sep 24th 2007 5:10PM
Neebs wins the internet for today.
Neebs @ Sep 24th 2007 8:17PM
Alright, that's up to 3 times.
gone with the wind @ Sep 24th 2007 5:00PM
what are those giant monkey things and why the ×××× are they using a nail gun to fight they should use real guns like that rocket launcher, poor brute went bye bye
umm....hello??? @ Sep 24th 2007 5:06PM
now THIS makes me "believe" that Neil could do a decent movie on Halo.
Mal F4cti0n @ Sep 24th 2007 6:13PM
With ya there. I think this "realism" makes it more "believable". A Doom sort of movie would not do the source material justice.
Go for it! I love it!
Mr.360 @ Sep 24th 2007 5:17PM
This is how they find him in the beginning of Halo 3.

That was pretty cool, with a little more budget and editing they could make a good feature length film. Which, would be at least as good as Starship Troopers (And is already infinitely better then the sequels..)
LaughingTarget @ Sep 24th 2007 5:52PM
Please don't let it be like Starship Troopers. If a film ever did destroy the source material, it was Starship Troopers. They didn't even bother with power armor, let alone do a decent social commentary.
Easo @ Sep 24th 2007 5:47PM
This video upset me. Not because it wasnt good(it was awesome) but because the show "Last One Standing" is not going to be a Halo mini series. Shame on you Discovery Channel, getting my hopes up like that.
Olaf @ Sep 24th 2007 6:03PM
is that in-game video?
rivaldi22 @ Sep 24th 2007 6:10PM
That's what she said.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Sep 24th 2007 6:22PM
The clip was good but it was hard to appreciate because...well I though that the directing was a little cluttered. It's cool that they were showing the fight through all of those different views, but it was a little confusing to follow (i.e. helicopter black and white camera).
As a Halo live-action clip, though, this was amazing. The props were awesome!
Kael @ Sep 24th 2007 6:30PM
Great stuff. Not at all the style of the games, but great on its own. Not perfect, but I see great potential. I really want to see the full-length movie.
Rob @ Sep 24th 2007 7:00PM
having never played Halo, or even owning an xbox, I must admit that was pretty cool. Definitely makes me want to play the game more than all those silly adds.
Will @ Sep 24th 2007 7:11PM
I'm not a huge X-Box fan, and didn't really like the first Halo, but I have to admit, the buzz and promo material going on for the Halo 3 release is outstanding. That short was incredible.
brianbat420 @ Sep 24th 2007 7:41PM
WOW I would see that movie in a heartbeat. If they updated the badguys to look more real or CGI it would be perfect
Lewis @ Sep 24th 2007 8:06PM
higher quality plz, kthx :/
Jake @ Sep 24th 2007 8:14PM
I really don't understand where the complaints about graphics come from. Those looked at least Gears of War good. ;)
Slaziman @ Sep 24th 2007 11:34PM
lol I thought the Brutes looked a little... off
Nice clip anyway
ronald.raygun @ Sep 24th 2007 11:45PM
ok, make a halo movie and have ridley scott or michael mann direct please...
Spakkenkhrist @ Sep 25th 2007 8:47AM
I think a movie in this style could be something truly special.
adam @ Oct 16th 2007 11:21AM
dude wow..they finally made a short, and your pissing and winning about how it looks.. its a short it wont look like starship troopers cause that was a full length film. this was like 4 minutes.. i Thought it was a great performance lot of detail, shrapnel everywhere. just great, cant wait for a new one.
