Despite not having a Halo movie to direct, Neill Blomkamp continues to make live action short films for Microsoft about the UNSC's struggle with aggressive Covenant forces in the minutes before Master Chief arrives on Earth. The combat is close and erratic, and the production value is noticeably improved over the previoustwo videos, and the violence has also substantially increased.
We're really digging Blomkamp's style, but honestly we're not sure how well it would translates into a feature-length film -- it almost seems better suited in the short-clip format we've been privy to. Right now the only place we know of to see the video is at the Discovery Channel's website; let us know if you find an embeddable version.Update: YouTube version embedded after the break. Thanks, nelson!
Oh hell yeah...that shit was dope. More than makes up for the 1st two....especially the 1st one. Glad someone wised up and gave Neil some props and money.
I think he could do a decent movie based on this one.
i think this sort of "screen testing" is designed specifically for short clips, more of a demonstration of the effects possible. note that MC isn't in any of these clips, it's obviously not a scene or meant to be indicative of the feel of a feature-length.
my guess is that the intent is to show any prospective takers that they can produce a realistic live-action sequence. unfortunately for the fanboys, it's not going to be as much of a comic-book epic as the game.
what are those giant monkey things and why the ×××× are they using a nail gun to fight they should use real guns like that rocket launcher, poor brute went bye bye
That was pretty cool, with a little more budget and editing they could make a good feature length film. Which, would be at least as good as Starship Troopers (And is already infinitely better then the sequels..)
Please don't let it be like Starship Troopers. If a film ever did destroy the source material, it was Starship Troopers. They didn't even bother with power armor, let alone do a decent social commentary.
This video upset me. Not because it wasnt good(it was awesome) but because the show "Last One Standing" is not going to be a Halo mini series. Shame on you Discovery Channel, getting my hopes up like that.
The clip was good but it was hard to appreciate because...well I though that the directing was a little cluttered. It's cool that they were showing the fight through all of those different views, but it was a little confusing to follow (i.e. helicopter black and white camera).
As a Halo live-action clip, though, this was amazing. The props were awesome!
Great stuff. Not at all the style of the games, but great on its own. Not perfect, but I see great potential. I really want to see the full-length movie.
having never played Halo, or even owning an xbox, I must admit that was pretty cool. Definitely makes me want to play the game more than all those silly adds.
I'm not a huge X-Box fan, and didn't really like the first Halo, but I have to admit, the buzz and promo material going on for the Halo 3 release is outstanding. That short was incredible.
dude wow..they finally made a short, and your pissing and winning about how it looks.. its a short it wont look like starship troopers cause that was a full length film. this was like 4 minutes.. i Thought it was a great performance lot of detail, shrapnel everywhere. just great, cant wait for a new one.
