GameTrailers moves beyond the Roman numerals in their Final Fantasy retrospective and into the peripheral media with the Final Fantasy name attached to it. Some of it good, some of it Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. One of the more interesting parts about this episode is all the Chocobo games, many of which never made it to the States. You'd think if there's anything that Americans would gobble up it's games with big cute yellow birds -- we've been watching one on PBS for decades. Next week the retrospective covers the successful spin-offs of Final Fantasy like Crystal Chronicles and Kingdom Hearts.
FF The Spirits Within was the kind of movie I call good but a mess. Another movie like this was Cutthroat Island. The problem with such movies was that the plot is not understandable enough on first viewing. But if you watch the movie a few times, it all comes together and is enjoyable. The problem is movies that need to be watched several times to be understood aren't - at least not in theaters, and they flop badly.
The very best movies by the way work in layers, they have a basic layer that is understood and enjoyed on first viewing, but on subsequent viewings you get deeper points and enjoy it even more.

Hey! I liked The Spirits Within. I thought it was one of the better of the video game movies.

Way to go Square-Enix. Instead of a proper FFVII sequel, or remake, you come out with shitty movies and animes. Great strategy

Final Fantasy Adventure was the best RPG ever made for a handheld.
Period.

Can't wait to see the one on Legend and Legend II. Adventure was a wicked handheld game.
