Tecmo taps Grasshopper for Fatal Frame Wii
The latest in Tecmo's atmospheric, at times disturbing survival horror series Fatal Frame could have you fighting off ghostly haunts with the Wii remote, with Killer 7 and No More Heroes developer Grasshopper Manufacture tapped to produce the next game in the series for the Wii.
According to a report out of last week's TGS, Suda 51's studio will begin work on the as yet untitled Fatal Frame game after development wraps on the ultra-violent No More Heroes, which Ubisoft will publish in the US in February. Like Fatal Frame, No More Heroes is also for the Wii, underscoring Grasshopper's apparent enthusiasm for Nintendo's unconventional console.
It will be interesting to see how Fatal Frame's landmark photography-based gameplay will map to the Wii's motion sensitive controls, though if past iterations are any indication, we may just drop the remote altogether and go hide in the closet.

Freaking awesome. I wonder if they'll implement motions to change your underpants.
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 26th 2007 1:13PM
Well, since "Sadness" isn't coming out any time soon(or thrown into the limbo that is "Duke Nukem Forever"), this is good news. :)
Chris @ Sep 26th 2007 1:13PM
I loved fatal frame i hope this isnt some remake of the other 3 games.
Aurvant @ Sep 26th 2007 1:14PM
I swear...if this comes with a custom Wii controller (or the Wiimera!...Wii + Camera...get it? Shut up.) i'll just be forced to punch the closest person too me.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Sep 26th 2007 1:16PM
Huh. I've...never even heard of this series...
That said, speaking of ghosts, I'd roundabouts kill for a Ghostbusters game on the Wii.
NATO_Duke @ Sep 26th 2007 1:24PM
Its a pretty cool series. When I first tried it I was being jaded and thinking, bah, it wont be scary. Yeah, well, when a ghost comes out and all you have is a camera, its pretty freaky.
You should check them out.
Shagittarius @ Sep 26th 2007 1:36PM
My Ghosts let me show you them.
Fatal Frame:
Take pictures of ghosts.
hvnlysoldr @ Sep 26th 2007 2:40PM
They should combine this with Pokemon Snap.
Sean @ Sep 26th 2007 1:17PM
Fatal Frame made me poop myself.
Cabcru @ Sep 26th 2007 1:19PM
They're an ace series of games. Really looking forward to the next.
voodoomage @ Sep 26th 2007 1:20PM
I played Fatal Fram on the xbox .... scary indeed!
FrankTheCrank @ Sep 26th 2007 1:23PM
Is that a hung chick? On the Wii? Nintendo is HARDCORE!
megaStryke @ Sep 26th 2007 1:27PM
A hung... chick? Are you certain that... OHHHHH! OH, OH! You meant she has been hanged by the neck! Okay, that makes sense! Pfffft, what was I thinking? My mind must be in the gutter!
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Sep 26th 2007 1:31PM
There's no shame in being into Futanari, MegaStryke.
Nope. No shame at all!
Also good: Roman Showers.
Shagittarius @ Sep 26th 2007 1:37PM
Did you hear about the plastic surgeon they found dead? He hung himself.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Sep 26th 2007 1:40PM
...
...I don't get it...
Shagittarius @ Sep 26th 2007 1:42PM
...and then I said wrecked em? I nearly killed em!
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 26th 2007 2:00PM
samfish, ... you don't want to.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Sep 26th 2007 2:24PM
Did he hang himself by his dick?
Shagittarius @ Sep 26th 2007 2:33PM
Ok let me try that again...
Did you hear about the plastic surgeon who was unhappy? He hung himself.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Sep 26th 2007 3:09PM
...Nope.
Still nothin'.

The only time a game ever scared me was fatal Frame. I was in college at the time working at blockbuster. We just got the game in, so I rented it that night after closing at 1. It was raining outside, and I was on the backside of my apartment complex which faced a bunch of trees and there was this creepy old mansion behind the trees with the lights on. So I opened my window so I could see all this and get the full effect, and put in Fatal Frame.
Scared the living hell out of me. I learned I am a huge coward and had to turn the game off because I was so scared.
The only other moment that came close was when I was in a similar situation playing Condemned and the room goes dark and then all the manikins are staring at you.
lucky644 @ Sep 26th 2007 2:03PM
sounds like that was ripped right out of silent hill o.O

As long as the Wii gets all the Suda51 Wii can handle, I'll be a happy man. All I need is the support from the younger crazier developers.
Ska Oreo @ Sep 26th 2007 2:20PM
Suda 51+fatal frame= the most fucked up shit we're ever going to see in a video game.
Darcrequiem @ Sep 26th 2007 3:18PM
You aren't kidding man. Suda 51 does makes some weird sh..stuff and Fatal Frame is already known as one of the creepiest games series out there. Maybe each game will come with a free month's supply of Depends :-)
OTAM @ Sep 26th 2007 2:24PM
My girlfriend loves the Fatal Frame series.
hvnlysoldr @ Sep 26th 2007 2:43PM
But but Nintendo is teh kiddie! You mean I get games like RE4, Scarface, Godfather, No More Heroes, and now Fatal Frame. And Manhunt 2, how can they let that on the Nintendo grey box. Why I should take my orange zapper and teach them a lesson.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 26th 2007 5:27PM
I hope somebody mods the Wii Zapper to look like the old orange zapper...
or... the Super Scope!
Mr. P @ Sep 26th 2007 2:46PM
A next-gen Fatal Frame would've been nicer, but this is good too. It's just one more reason for me to get a Wii.
Shagittarius @ Sep 26th 2007 2:59PM
What was the other reason?
NaeemTHM @ Sep 26th 2007 3:17PM
Getting a Wii means you're getting some of the BEST games the industry has to offer. Seeing how one of the greatest games developers of all time is supporting it: Nintendo.
Shag...ya rat bastard. Stop spitting hate at my Wii.
Mr. P @ Sep 26th 2007 4:47PM
Since you asked, here are some other reasons! My 360 keeps dying, my PS3 keeps collecting dust, and frankly the prospect of a Kojima or Itagaki game on Wii excites me (in addition to games like Fatal Frame and Umrella Chronicles).

Mr Khan @ Sep 26th 2007 4:21PM
This is definitely a feather in the Wii's cap
never been able to "buy" a fatal frame game, but from what i've played, its freaky as hell
Grasshopper only sweetens the deal
That Fuzzy Bastard @ Sep 26th 2007 4:24PM
I had to stop playing FF2 (on the Xbox) because it was scaring me too much. I thought I was a complete pansy until I found out 3 friends had the same experience...
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 26th 2007 5:39PM
I haven't been truly freaked out by a video game since Manhunt 1. I never got scared during the game per se, but I had nightmares, and they were awesome. I look forward to being freaked out again soon with something like this or Manhunt 2, especially 'cuz now I got a huge big screen and I live in a scarier neighborhood.
