THQ has once again returned to Games Workshop's well for a drink, announcing yet another expansion for the company's popular Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War real-time strategy franchise. The series, which launched in 2004 for the PC and already includes expansions Winter Assault and Dark Crusade, is based on the popular tabletop miniatures war game, though thankfully the electronic version is far less expensive.
In development at Relic, Soulstorm is expected to launch in spring 2008. In addition, like Dark Crusade, Soulstorm will be a stand alone expansion, allowing players to jump right into the grim darkness of the far future without having to pick up the other games in the series to do so.
Previous expansions added new armies like the Imperial Guard, Tau, and Necron, and Soulstorm looks to continue this tradition by introducing two new factions, bringing the series' total to nine playable races. While THQ remains tight lipped on one of these new races, the other will be the Dark Eldar. The game will also add new units across the seven other races, including air units, a first for the series. Finally, the scale of the game is swelling as well, with THQ noting that players will do battle across an entire star system. For the Emperor!

Yep, gotta be Tyranids, those would be so awesome (giant, customizable bugs lumbering over the battlefield with swarms underfoot would look amazing).

Well it has to be tyranids lol, it's the only race they have left... Unless of course they are going to create something new. I suppose they could also draw upon discontinued aspect of the game like the Eldar Harlequins. I doubt they'd choose anything besides tyranids though.

Why are alot of you guys thinking tyranids are the only race left? There is still 4 others than tyranids. Sistors of Battle , Witch hunters , Daemon hunters and alien hunters. Though i must admit tyranids are my favourite team in the whole of Warhammer 40,000 so i hopes it's them but judging by the photos it looks more like sistors of battle than any other race.

Tyranids are the only ones left. Other than that the only other race I can think of is Sisters of Battle, and they're just a cruddier version of the Space Marines.

I actually think it's going to be Sisters of Battle/Inquisition. I know a lot of people would love to have 'Nids (myself included) but given that the expansion is called "Soulstorm" and not something like "The Great Devourer", I'm going with the Battle Nuns instead of the Bugs.

This is a very good point - Dark Crusade was a great name - the Necrons are dark and like to crusade, and the Imperium ran a crusade on the Tau, so it works.
Soulstorm - Dark Eldar like souls, and the reaving thereof, and so does the Inquisition.
Then again, Tyranids storm things like no other. I'd prefer tyranids but I agree Inquisition/Sister of Battle is more likely.

While I would love Tyranids I think that it's more likely that it will be a Witchhunters army.

It's Dark Eldar. The other race is rumoured to be Sisters of Battle. Apparently they can't do the Tyranids with the current engine on DOW, they'd need to make DOW 2 to include Nids.

Goes without saying. Tyranids would kick! Although there hasn't been much focus on the shadowy dealings of the Emperor's Inquisition, apart from the Grey-Knights, I hope it's Tyranids.
However, perhaps they'll do things a little different and introduce more than two new races?
Only Tzeentch truly knows....

Um, Blizzard can pike off. If you're going to talk about such similarities, then GW would have more of a right to be cross about it, seeing as how their creation came first.

Tyranids were around before Blizzard existed as a games company.
