I'd rather spend my $35.00 on a video game than a blue ray disc. Why would anyone spend all that money on a blue ray disc when they can get the same movie for $10.00. America loves tantalising people and as alway, people fall for it. That's why everyone's always brok.

HD-DVD's retail movies cost more than Blu-Ray movies more often than not and none of them cost 35 bucks

Video games aren't $35 dollars right now - games for these systems are $60, unless you count the older 'platinum/greatest hits' titles... But if you say a BR is $35 and the DVD is $10, you're probably not talking about the same movie. Be realistic - Blue Ray releases are $21-$30 and a new release DVD is usually $15-$20. I don't buy your argument, even on DVD.

I say this as a PS3 owner and fan - the 360 also lacked games for the first year, but that does not matter because there was no competition. Also, multi-platform games won't move a lot of units.

1) Sure the 360 library sucked for the first year or so, but though it may be a defence of the PS3 in the abstract, it doesn't help in the real world. Let's say both systems follow exactly the same curve - well Sony will lose because they will always be 12 months behind.

2) A lot more games are multi-platform in this gen(GTA for instance), so now you have a situtation where somebody owns a 360 because they bought it in the first year when it was the only thing on offer, or in the second year because it had significantly more games - well they're not going to go out now and buy a PS3 to play GTA.

All that said, MSoft paid a big price to get out there first, namely their product has a faulty design. They have taken a chare of $bil in their financials to address the issue - so assuming they've sold about 10mil systems, that's $100 per console (assuming they remedy the problem going forward).

You've also got to consider only about half the previous generation of Xbox owners have purchased the 360.

The argument that the systems had no must-have titles is all the more relevant considering the 360 had absolutely no next-generation competition in its first year. Aside the Wii and the 360 both, the PS3 is selling about the same as the latter's launch year.

The curve, as per last generation's history and general analysis across the board, is next year and the year afterward when the systems have a more robust library and price drops. If the market's response is as most assume, Microsoft's 20 million marketshare will likely be their floating point. Sony and Wii's current-gen strategies differ to such extents that they'll share userbase in the middle of the spectrum; the casual will flock to Nintendo, the middle ground will seek both, and Sony will have the more enthusiastic gamer with the wider variety of titles.

Ladies please don`t fight.
All we love Sony, and all we love PS2.
The faq that they go crazy and make the PS3 so expensive that I and many people decide to buy a X360 (when we never before even consider to buy Xbox and thinking any way the big games are in both consoles and I not a great fan of FF, over all after XIII, good game but it has very little of FF and more of Star Wars) or a Wii is not any one fault. Except sony. Buy a cheaper PS3 I don`t know, it have good exclusives but most of the games I wanna play are on x360 too. So what bother.

How can anyone say there aren't any games to play on it?

the PS3 sports much of the 360's library, has some incredibly decent exclusives (anyone who says Heavenly Sword is bad has obviously never played it)with more coming, as well as AAA franchises on the way.

What, just because MGS isn't out yet, the PS3 has "no games"?

Go to a game store and look on the shelves. Lo and behold, you will see games. PS3 ones.

I really want to ask every one who hates the ps3 one thing......

WHAT GAME DO YOU WANT TO HAVE FOR THE SYSTEM?!
Please answer this question!

Oh by the way all the people who think that FPS and Sports are the only genera's for game systems are morons, they need to get a life and play other types of games, maybe you would enjoy gaming a little more that you do. You might be shocked on how many games that are out there that are really good.

People who buy a console for one game (I'll use Halo 3 for example since it is one of the hottest games now) are going to wish they haven't spent that much money ( System, Accessories, and Web subscription if applicable) in the first place. I really dont care wether you have a PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii.
You all are morons!

Just my 2 cents.

Oh before i get flamed and called really stupid names by people who cant formulate an intelligent response.

I have bought game systems and games since the Genesis days and have over 30+ games for each system I own ( PS2, PS, Genesis, Game Gear) The PS3 I just got and I have 5 games so far, and they are spread out over all genera! I have played every one and enjoyed each of them! And I still have each system and their games!

if ps3 had bioshock, gears of war, halo 3, blue dragon, dead rising, mass effect, etc, and wasn't an overpriced POS, then I might've gotten it instead of the 360

and what's wrong with people buying a 360 for 1 game? many ppl bought a ps3 for 1 game, or will (resistance originally, mgs4/ff13 next year). Fun is fun. Each person decides how much money they're willing to spend on a fun experience. I personally wouldn't buy mgs4 even if I had a ps3, not until it was in the bargain bin anyway. Different strokes

Actually, buying either a 360 or a PS3 has been a near-nightmare for me. I've been trying to decide, as a "little" (heh) graduation gift, which system to get. I keep holding off whenever the talk of new price cuts, SKUs, and whatnot come up - and lately its been a lot. I remember you could mark the life of a console based on the expected price-cut announcement at E3 and that was more or less it.

Now what we have is something akin to a new pricing scheme every three months. A new SKU every four. Its rather annoying because I want to get SOMETHING, but I'm paranoid that I'll buy something now and then lose my mind when a potentially better deal comes along the next month or two later.

I like both systems - and, depending on the day (and hour, and number of Cokes I've had...), I like one just a little more than the other. I like the look of games like Heavenly Sword and MGS4 as it stands right now. I like hi-def televisions like anyone else, but I don't have one of my own - but a PS3 or 360 game with component video still looks nice on my TV.

Tomorrow, who the hell knows? Suddenly I'm all about Halo 3, The Darkness, and Dead Rising. Or I'll foreswear both and drunkenly reserve every Wii and DS game that even mildly interests me between now and Christmas. (Not letting the fact that I already have get in the way...)

What I think a lot of people want is for this whirlwind of price and model changes to just stop. I can't imagine it helps MS or Sony to put people like me - people who would like some more varied, serious stuff to go with the lighter side that the Wii or a DS offers perhaps - into a position where they become so indecisive they can't possibly choose.

Paralyzing customers with such "deals" nets no real measurable benefits, especially if the deals become just another bunch of noises in a company PR machine. Prove the value of the system up front.

i'd say the 360 already has enough games worth getting, and there's only more coming out, like mass effect

maybe wait for the xmas season to see if there's another price drop for it (perhaps to counter a $400 ps3, if that happens) but you should get one by january, you'll have tons of games to catch up on :) I'm ass-deep in games for 360 right now, I won't even open my halo 3 for another couple weeks. I still haven't gotten to bioshock yet! argh! busy with blue dragon, skate, tenchu z, gears of war (old copy broke midway thru campaign, it was a used one from ebay, half price of gamestop lol) and just recently finished rainbow6vegas

some fun games man :)

Dude! do the right thing, give me your money and then save up for three more years to get the system you really want which is of course the PS3, everyone wants one but they just can't afford one which is why they settle for less and become victims of the rings of death (360) or you can go to the kiddie section and buy a wi.

Just more proof of the lack of love the UK gets from console manufacturers... Sega loved us. :(

Anyway. You all do realise, part of the problem, is that users in an international basis, in effect are paying $1000 for a PS3, $360 for a Wii and $600 for a 360 (premium). Is it any wonder at the moment I prefer to play games on PC?

As to all you people, saying a decent gaming rig costs a fortune, you do know for $500 you can build a gaming rig, that can run Bioshock at 1024x768 with most settings (save anti-ailising and anistropic x8+) on full. It might not be the future proof system you'd get if you splashed out a lot of money. My point is at the moment, PC gaming is cheaper in the UK then any other system currently on the market.

Quite frankly, I'd love to own a current gen console. But with the way the price divide between the UK and US is, I refuse to pay double the price. Also, you all know that Sony effectively gimped the PS3 in the UK, until mid next year, all EU PAL models, only actually have a 2/3 power processor in comparison to the rest of the world.

This whole "not exclusive if PC gets it too" argument that the sony fanboys like to moan about is beyond stupid.

We're talking about GAMING CONSOLES here. PC is a completely seperate division of gaming. I don't know the stats but I'm pretty sure that out of the huge PC Gaming market most PC gamers stick to PC and theres probably a VERY SMALL minority that buys gaming consoles. And vice versa I think that theres a huge is huge Gaming Console market and that only FEW people who get gaming consoles also play on PC.

Bottom line here is that ps3 has very little games (and by few I mean like 2 to 3)...the value is not there.

What a bunch of fucking idiots. Yeah let's change it up one more time and drive consumer confidence down some more! Who in their right mind would buy a console if the the company that makes them can't even decide what to put in the box!?!?! Microsoft that goes for you too!

"the PS3 sports much of the 360's library, has some incredibly decent exclusives (anyone who says Heavenly Sword is bad has obviously never played it)with more coming, as well as AAA franchises on the way."

But you forget one thing...the majority of gamers like madden 07, and they want the version that'll play fast at 60 fps (X360) than play at 30fps (PS3 version). For a system that is suppose to be so damn powerful, that's sad. If I wanna play Heavenly Sword, I'll just play god of war on my PS2 since it's basicly no different. And besides MGS4, what other AA franchises are coming...and do list more than just 2. More like 10.
