Unreal Tournament 3 gets PC collector's edition
This November PC gamers will have a choice to make: settle for the regular edition of Unreal Tournament 3 ($50), or fork over just a bit more for the newly announced collector's edition, which comes in an obligatory tin case. For an extra $10, Midway is packing in an art book detailing the game's vehicles, characters, weapons and environments, as well as a bonus DVD featuring "in depth" Unreal Engine 3 Toolkit video tutorials, an Unreal Tournament retrospective, and a look behind the scenes at the making of UT3.
This special edition is expected to be available in the US on November 19 alongside the regular, non-tin version, while Midway adds that both will also be released in the UK, Europe, South Africa, Russia, Australia and "most other territories."

hmm, another tin case

Tin cases suck. I feel like I'm buying a pack of Altoids.

Meh. I've learned that UT special content disks aren't that great...
...well, except for the one that had a tutorial on mapmaking. That was asweet.

The special editions with artbooks or making of videos were interesting when they were in fact special, and not the norm for milking buyers for more money. I just don't see a reason to excited for them.

I love the tin cases. Sign me up for 1.

I didn't like the tin case that Gears came in at all. For the most part I don't like them because that insert card they use to hold the disc. You try to get the thing out of the case you or just open it and it gets all bent up. I moved the game to a empty case so I didn't have to use the tin.

I really liked the videos they included on the UT07 bonus disc to get you started in UnrealEd. Maybe the $10 CE will be worth it.

I prefer digipacks to tincases.

i bought UT2k4 special, which back in 04, a DVD was part of the collector's which I loved much better than installing 5 cd's. Naturally times have changed, but I still think I'm the collector's for the dev videos.

If all of these tins were like FF XII, then it'd be one thing. But the tins for GOW and Halo 3 (all other issues aside) suck.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Sep 27th 2007 1:17PM
yeah the ff12 one was cool, my friend stole it from gamestop
too bad the game wasn't that great
Aaron @ Sep 27th 2007 1:40PM
but upz Altoids are good :D

I don't really care for limited editions, but I'll probably get it just to show my support for Epic.
Anyone who refers to PC-gamers as their "bread and butter" and treats them as such deserves it.

Jesus you people bitch about anything.
-Der, it's only a metal case...
-Der, it's only dev notes...
Actually, it's tutorials. Like the CE of 2004, this one will be jam packed with tutorials on how to use and modify the game with the Unreal Editor. In other words, and in ways even you dumb bastards can understand, the CE will show you people how to do anything from adding Master Chief toyour copy to adding in Halo weapons, Halo vehicles, and Halo levels. Or of course make your own. These are free learning resources to teach you how to adjust the game in any way you want (with some effort). And how much for all these valuable resources? Only $10 more?
Well, I think it's time to do some comparisons....

$49-$69 per DVD covering a limited topic. To do the full range of these tutorials, at least two DVD sets would be needed.
Most 3D instructional book range between $40-$70 and it only covers a very limited subject range.
Seriously, this collectors edition is a bargain. Especially since it shows those of us who cannot afford Unreal Engine 3, how to work with it.

ut3 can play halo 3? sold.

Didn't UT2K4 LE come with a headset also? Some Logitech headset ...
I hope this one does. I'm in need of a new one.
iofthestorm @ Sep 27th 2007 11:31PM
Well, at least we get the option of paying $10 less than PS3 users.
