you can always import the thing.
Sony have confirmed that the controller from japan will work with any other PS3 and the new games will have rumble support as well as PS2 games. The only game that will not have rumble is the games already out that needs a patch to make it work.

So it's not that bad, just find a good japaneese store to buy from :)

Ever heard of Lik-Sang? Y'know, the guys that used to export PSPs?

With that kind of reputation, I doubt anyone will want to export DualShock 3's....

"We'd prefer to wait for Sony to make some minimal-cost customer-friendly Sixaxis to DualShock 3 exchange program, but we're not holding our breath."

Why do we hold Sony to different standards? Where was the demand for the replacement of that hideous large Xbox controller?
What about the original PSX controller? The Dual Analog Controller?

This is so ridiculous.

Wouldn't the argument be that those controllers took a step forward and this is a reinstitution of a previous feature.

VVV

I don't think a precedent could have been set as no controller that I can think of has lost a feature in stepping to the next generation.

Sony is in the unfortunate position of having to climb back into positive public perception. They may want to look for opportunities for a good PR move.

It's a fun fantasy to think that Sony will have some great replacement program, but there's no logical reason for it other than sour grapes... There is no precedent for it, as in the past when a new controller was released it was simply "go buy a new one if you want the new feature." When the dual-analog for the PS1 was introduced: no replacement program, the replacement for "The Duke/Hamburger" Xbox controller: no replacement program, and probably now the new controller from Sony, no replacement program.

"The old controllers still work" is probably the official stance of these companies.

I remember when games having rumble was actually big news. Back when the N64 and PS1 were around.

Man Sony. You've come so far. 10 years later and your now re-releasing rumble tech into games. I wonder what features you will leave out for the PS4 so that you can create a sense of value by adding them back in later.

You can't just not pay for violating a patent. That's retarded.

The force feedback wasn't seen as particularly necessary, and drained the battery life to extents with which they weren't comfortable. There was a customer response, however, so they're releasing the option to those that want it.

As the Microsoft enthusiast puts it, "Options are awesome."

Moronic Post #125214:

"Sony were getting sued by Immersion and were FORCED TO REMOVE RUMBLE from the PS3 controller."

Sony wasn't forced to do anything. As the other guys said, they just didn't want to pay Immersion. Instead, they decided to lie to everyone and say that rumble was not possible with the SIXAXIS motion controls. Even though Nintendo had miraculously figured out how to make it work, and Immersion said publicly that they had a working solution within 24 hours of Sony's statement.

WTF SONY! Trying to lie to us by saying you'll need a new controller for the sixaxis to rumble. You heard it here first, YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY ANOTHER CONTROLLER. All you need to do is inject your controller with some weird yellow chemical. I'll wait for said chemical to appear on ebay. New controller: NO THANK YOU, Sony!

@dsub

Actually, MS basically did lie, but they did it by omission. MS was asked over and over if they would support HDMI at some point and they would would only ever say that they would support it "when it made sense" or "when it was necessary". As a follow up, many people also asked if the launch 360 models could support HDMI. Again, MS would only ever sayt that they would support HDMI when it made sense. That is a lie by omission. They knew damn well that the current 360 models couldn't support HDMI but they would never publicly say it. It took consumers opening up the 360 and examining the chips on the motherboard to finally conclude that the current models couldn't support HDMI. But keep living in your fantasy world where only Sony pulls these stunts.... it's cute.

I love how any sony related post is populated with the regular Sony haters who complain about systems they never owned or will never (or simply cant) buy. The entire thread is mostly populated with people talking about what sony fanboys do, yet there isnt a one to be found thats doing any of what you guys are saying. Its like the KKK assembled to lynch someone, and the victim is missing, so they just hang around talking about it.

I was personally indifferent when rumble left, and im just as indifferent about it returning. Of course im glad its back, but not jumping for joy, most games use it annoyingly anyway.

By the way, where's Fernando of the Nintendo Defense Force? It's not officially a Sony post without his attempt at taking a dump on it.
