I've been pronouncing it "Phil's aim" until now, and will continue to do so, as it the cool thing to do.

As a French major his name has always pissed me off. If you want the last E to be said Reggie you've gotta accent it!

Have to agree there. Fils-Aime would just be "fees-ehm". You want the trailing "ay"? Then add the aigu!

Fils-Aimé FTW!

I pretty much shat bricks when the internet started video-streaming E3 and the announcer said, "Presenting Reggie Fees-Ah-May!"

It was like all Ls in the world cried out in pain and were suddenly silenced.

TIP: asking why and how something is news is a bannable offense. Don't like it, move along. It won't be long until there's something else you can (hopefully) accept as worthy of your time.

Go ahead and ban me then, Chris - I'll be back by the end of the week. I have every right to say this article is a complete waste of time.

Welcome to the world of journalism, Chris - criticism is part of the territory. Deal with it....

It's news because he's the president of Nintendo of America silly! A lot of the stuff here is about gaming culture or just game company-related in general, like when key figures get promotions or sell land or move headquarters or open new branches or leave companies or die. It's what makes this site more interesting than a stack of previews and reviews.

I never took French (Spanish and Japanese ftw dudez). The hard S caught me by surprise. The best I'd heard an interviewer say before was Fee-Zuh-May, and that's what I'd been using between then and now.

exactly,
joystiq is more about videogame culture and all that encompasses it.

If an icon of the industry your interested takes the time to make a video about his pronunciation, obviously it's been said wrong a couple hundred times.

Hell, if Reggie went crazy and took a dump outside his house, that would make joystiq as well. If you don't like it, go read IGN or 1UP.

OH YEAH well his named means something like "Beloved son" or "boy-loved" or "lovely boy butt face" depending on how you translate it.

Well, fils is literally "son" and the root of Aime would be the verb aimer, "to like".
