Last week's UK game sales numbers were released today and surprise, surprise, Halo 3 sits high atop the pile. According to calculations from UK media sales group Chart Track, Halo 3 topped the UK game charts and in the process doubled Xbox 360 console sales to their highest levels of the year. But records weren't smashed, because Halo 3 wasn't able to dethrone the behemoth that was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' record setting sell through from its PS2 glory days. Though, we don't think Bungie will have have a hard time accepting a second place UK all-time sales record, because they still have their $170 million record setting Halo 3 launch in the US and nobody can take that away from them. Ha!
Halo 3 UK sales high, but fall short of GTA record

When discussing the increase of 360 sales, you have to take in consideration the consoles they blocked from live not to long ago.
You know.. The ones they blocked from live a few days after starting to sell the latest H2 maps. I'm sure there is a noticeable percentage of players rebuying consoles for H3 on live.
With the amount of players on live during the first few days of the game dropping, it demonstrates what we all know : H3 is a online machine not the least bit dependent on the campaign.
You can't consider the increase as purely "new" sales/customers. In which case, is the increase of console sale's impressive or is it the drive to play H3 online?
You'll have to excuse me if that was incoherent rambling.

@ 3.
The notion that those who bought new Xboxes to replaced their banned ones would make up a statistically significant portion of new console sales seems highly dubious at best.

One thing to keep in mind is the ratio of the user install base for the PS2 at the time of the GTA: San Andreas release and the # of people who owned a 360 at the time of H3's release. The PS2 at that time had been out longer (don't know the exact amount of years) than the 360 (only 2yrs old for H3), I believe, so there were more customers available in the UK to purchase it.

Well, I learned that, in business, there is no point unless you are striving to be the best. Even if you fall short, you still do pretty damn good.
Congrats MS. That's only one of a bunch of other records that you DID get.

Face it, Halo 3 is mainly a US phenomenon.
Europe would rather play soccer (football) games made by EA than Halo 3. As for GTA, well, our poor UK brothers are banned from handling firearms and getting "rowdy" by their government, so they feel more of a need to lash out with GTA, lol. Just kidding... Sort of.

Lol Spartacus, your knowledge of the UK/European gaming market is equivalent of my knowledge of how to fire a handgun (to use an appropriate comparison). Pro Evolution Soccer is essentially the superior football (soccer) franchise for the discerning tactical player. As for the gun control remark, even though gun-crime is growing within the UK, doesn't mean we're all gun-wielding psychopaths who can pick up a round of ammo from WalMart. Not saying anything about my good friends across the pond of course! :)
