As you wish, Princess Bride game in development
One of our favorite films is getting the video game treatment ... just 20 short years after its initial release. The Hollywood Reporter is, well, reporting that Worldwide Biggies (we haven't heard of them either) has entered into an exclusive deal to produce a game based on Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride.
Now, before you start imagining stabbing the Six-Fingered Man with your Wiimote, you should know this sounds like a distinctly casual product. A sample will be included with a 20th anniversary DVD of the film this year, followed up by the release of True Love and High Adventure -- The Official Princess Bride Game in the spring. If this tells you anything, the game is currently not planned as a retail release, but rather as a downloadable title. Inconceivable!

This isn't Digg, those comments don't fly here, especially when it is something abut a classic movie. If you don't actually know what it is, I suggest you go out and BUY is, yes, I said "buy", it is that good.
Neon Jebus @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:13PM
Boy and we thought Napoleon Dynamite was a game slow to market!
Looking forward to a battle with Rodents of Unusual Size!

ROUS's, I don't believe they exist.
32_Footsteps @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:18PM
Joystiq, that last word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
RedJoggingSuit(MSDF-Battle Angel) @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:33PM
So you haven't seen Princess Bride then...
32_Footsteps @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:58PM
No, RedJoggingSuit, it means I've watched the movie that many more times than you. "I do not think it means what you think it means" is the response Inigo gives to Vezzini after one of his utterances of "Inconceivable!" I believe it's after Vezzini notes that the man in black is catching up to their boat.
Crono (NDF - French Taunting from Holy Grail Ring) @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:00PM
LOL @ the ownage
EdZ @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:09PM
Actually, it was when Vizzini exclaims that the man in black's ability to climb the cliffs of insanity was 'inconceivable' (Inigo and Vizzini are at the top of the cliffs, looking down).
Still, you were mostly right. But mostly right is still slightly wrong.
32_Footsteps @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:17PM
EdZ, you seem like a decent fellow. I hate to kill you.
RedJoggingSuit(MSDF-Battle Angel) @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:18PM
OH SNAP!! You win

Picturing Battle of Wits mini-game.
So I clearly cannot choose the goblet in front of you.
Jason B @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:26PM
Break out the iocane powder boys...it's time to celebrate! Lets go start a land war in Asia. Go night Joystiq...I'll likely kill you in the morning.
Jason B @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:29PM
dang it...I meant to say
Sleep well Joystiq. I'll most likely kill you in the morning.
HineyWipe @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:27PM
Never get involved in a land war in Asia?
NATO_Duke @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:19PM
No never get involved in a land war in Asia! Its the most famous classic blunder! The only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
Ska Oreo @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:30PM
INCONCEIVABLE!!!!!!!!!
WiNG @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:31PM
I was pwning my friend in Wii bowling. He said I had great hand control on my right hand...
Actually, I'm left handed.
Phranctoast @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:46PM
nice reference.
Phranctoast @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:31PM
In other news, spaceballs will start merchandising yogurt dolls and a wii oriented shwurtz game!
Hirsbrunner @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:36PM
If they do, I'll be first in line. I hope they include the Spaceballs Flamethrower in the game. The kids love that.
Ska Oreo @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:39PM
Isn't there some kind of spaceballs cartoon on G4?
Also, Space Monkeys is not that bad of a show.
JJ Rooster @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:36PM
There's a shortage of perfect breasts in the world.
Sean @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:01PM
Making a game for this movie has to be one of the classic blunders, much like never going in against a Sicillian when death is on the line.
Man, I love this movie, though.
Sean @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:03PM
- never. D'oh!
Leiterfluid @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:20PM

32_Footsteps @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:24PM
What, you're shocked by this rerelease? Look, geeks love The Princess Bride. And as shown by Star Wars, The Lord Of The Rings, Monty Python, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Superman, and a few dozen anime series, you can make tons of money by repeatedly rereleasing stuff geeks like.
It's about as shocking as, well, anything Vezzini calls "Inconceivable!"
Dio @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:32PM
I think no man in a century will suffer as greatly as you will.
Penguin Warlord @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:39PM
This movie is mostly dead, which is very different from being entirely dead.
And I believe he said to blave, which we all know means to bluff.
JodyAnthony (FDF - Hedonism Bot) @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:45PM
it is truly the single greatest movie of all time.
also the game will most likely sully the good name of the movie/book.
JodyAnthony (FDF - Hedonism Bot) @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:47PM
oh, and
The Dread Pirate Roberts takes no survivors! All your worst nightmares have but to come true!
hvnlysoldr @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:50PM
Think they have a chance?
It'd take a miracle.
Have fun storming the castle!
hvnlysoldr @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:51PM
Not your everyday average ho-hum fairy tale. Even the hero dies
hvnlysoldr @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:58PM
Yo Joystiq!
I hit reply but it didn't work until I hit it a second time. It never failed with FireFox but now with IE7 it's repeatedly failing. Also never try to outpoison a poison master.
Zootittles @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:55PM
The game will consist of you playing an ancient baseball sim while a voiceover of your grandfather tells you the story of The Princess Bride.
Zootittles @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:00PM
Seriously though, it'll probably be a Bejeweled-style gem matching game. Or a cart racer.
hvnlysoldr @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:00PM
That's NES Action Baseball or something. I'd totally want that as a bonus game.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:41PM
Hey, wait a minute! I'm wanted a "Never Ending Story" video game!!!
