GamePro graphs PS3 and Gamecube sales

Well nintendo was a strong brand when the Cube released so what's your point? The Cube still kind of tanked as will the PS3. You can say "just wait until HOME and Killzone 2!" until you're blue in the face but I think it is too little too late. Name a console that has floundered like this and come back? Maybe Sony will learn from this and the PS4 will do well, like the Wii or maybe Sony will continue the GET ANOTHER JOB TO AFFORD it arrogance they have shown since the PS2 days. Looks like people didn't want to get a third job after all eh Sony? I could afford one if I wanted it but I just don't see the point right now. 5 or 6 hundred dollars to watch Blu Ray films those of which are released all seem targeted to 14 year old boys? Motorstorm looks fun but what else? Cripes man it's coming up on a year and they keep saying wait until spring 08!

I really do hope the PS3 is Sony's N64. There is a damned good reason, too. Nintendo got served a whole truckload of humble pie on the N64. Nintendo then, sorta (they still have some backwards third party relations), got their truck straight and put out the Gamecube. Next, the Wii shows up, which has leagues more innovation than the other two combined (not saying much as all the Wii did was give us a good motion control system and the competition didn't do anything more than increase the resolution).

Maybe the PS3 will teach Sony that we (and by we, everyone minus the 3 million or so folks that bought the thing) aren't interested in bleeding edge technology for a premium price. We have PCs for that. Don't give me the PS3 is cheaper, most people have to buy a PC anyway and for an extra $500 above the base price can put together something that trashes the PS3 without pity or remorse. Besides, bleeding edge isn't too impressive three months later anyway.

Console gamer want something inexpensive that plays games. The PS2 wasn't a smash success becuase of the DVD player, it was a smash success becuase it played games, lots of them.

Sony can't sit on the PS3 forever. The name is already tarnished with consumers and developers alike. A price drop to a bargain bin $99 didn't save the Gamecube, which, like the PS3, was vastly superior to the #1 market leader (sans smaller disk medium, but the PS1 proved that gamers don't care about switching disks). With sales numbers like these, developers aren't going to take a chance to fire off new projects in hopes they'll sell systems.

I say let Sony take a huge bath on the PS3 and fail miserably. Maybe then they'll figure it all out and give us a good product for $250 with some real innovation, not just extra pixels, next time around.

Theres always room for innovation. A few years ago if you said that the next nintendo would be motion controlled, you would have been ridiculed. And, back in the super nes days, the idea of games on disk was laughed at. Now its standard.

I would buy a PS3,especially since a $399 price drop might be upon us,and Heavenly Sword,I dont care if its a GOW ripoff,it does a good job at keeping me waiting for GOW3. Plus in hi-def!

The Gamecube had great games,and it ran better than the PS2 ports(eg RE4),but the PS2's library of games was the killer.

I would buy a 360 when there's a new Crimson Skies. God,I love that fucking game(the original PC version was better than the Xbox one,too arcadey even though it did a good job storywise).

Don't forget that Nintendo made profit on every GC sold. Sony is losing hundreds on ever PS3 sold.

Man, I feel sorry for PS3. It really is a great piece of equipment with tons of potential. But Sony keeps kicking it hard in the nuts every time it tries to get up. Its just sad and rediculous.

How awesome would a purple PS3 with a handle be? I'd actually buy it then!

I hear all the rage is aligning the launch dates of Wii, DS, and PS2.

Well, the Gamecube was $199 when it debuted... I know because I bought one @ Midnight on launch day :-) I hardly think it is a fair comparison to a $499 - $599 PS3. The 3DO was expensive, but it didn't have the strong branding and recognition that the Playstation brand enjoys. So once again, not really a great comparison.

The PS3 will not fail! It has to get better a price point and advertise the damn machine. I mean, explain what it does and not totally relying on word-of-mouf. When I tell people that it has bluetooth or a web-browser, people go crazy. The price has to be right or the average consumer wont buy it. Im a tech-nerd so I knew what I was getting to buy purchasing a PS3 cause I knew it would do a lot than gaming.

Honestly, if you're gonna compare PS3 to GC than people should compare the 360 to the DreamCast. Which means it will fail inevitably. I dont care about how many consoles the 360 has sold, most of the sales are replacements. Yeah, PS2 systems had defects but it wasn't 33% of them. The Dreamcast released a whole year before the PS2 and the Dreamcast bombed after that.

The failure rate is horrible and probably more than the PS1 and PS2 put together. Also, the 360 has YET to make M$ any money even w/ their baby Halo3 coming out.

If the PS3 is the GameCube of this gen than The 360 is the Dreamcast then. The 360 wont defeat anybody. Their whole damn install base is the US. Japan and PAL are big gaming territories. At $250 a pop, I hope people are buying them! How much can they actually do w/ the wii remote and etc? Eventually, there wont be anymore ways to be innovating and it WILL get old. After WiiFit, they will having nothing else. The Wii is basiclly how the Ipod was a couple years ago, A FAD! Everybody had to have 1 but when people start using their cellphones as music players, they're glory came to an end. Oh yeah, Apple did release Iphone though, ironic isn't?

Bottom-Line, the PS3 has a lot offer but the price has to be right and appeal to everybody in some way. Whether its being a media-hub or console. Neither of its competitors have anything worth naming next year and so 2008 is for Sony to conquer. With DualShock 3 and a lot of games coming, only Sony can hurt themselves in the long run. W/ the 360's power already being tapped and the Wii not looking any better than it does now, do all of you really wanna be naive and truly think the PS3 wont be any better than it is NOW? It hasnt been out a whole year in US and Japan and barely 7 months in PAL! People are only bashing the PS3 because people dont want Sony to win like they have before but the "loosing" will all change sooner or later. There are things the PS3 can do like 360 or Wii but there are things that the 360 or Wii can't and wont be able to do as the PS3! Look, I dont know successful Blu-Ray will be and I damn sure dont know about HOME being a "system seller" but I know Sony isnt going to let the PS3 go to waste. So get use to the PS3 being around 1 way or another. In the future, when you haters are stuck w/ what you are already experiencing now, I'll be w/ my PS3 year after year watching and, DEFINITLY, PLAYING w/its potenital!

PS3 sells so badly because pirates are unable to copy their games easily. The new media doesn't help. Same case with Gamecube and their mini discs.

Wii and Xbox360 games are readily pirated, same with PS1 and PS2, look at where they are now. Raking in sales.

Anyone else thinking the PS3 will sell less than the Gamecube?

Its funny how everyone just loves to take a bash at PS3 whenever they can...

But looking back at when Playstation was owning, there was barely any Playstation fanboys bashing other systems.

The only bashing I remember was when Xbox came in and then Xbox fanboys started claiming Microsoft will win because the Xbox has more power.

But I understand, Nintendo fanboys haven't been able to be proud of much lately so thats why they like to stick it in Sony's face for that moment where they can be proud of themselves.

And Xbots never get to feel the joy of winning so they are always bitter at everybody else trolling everywhere talking trash about every other system and games. Also notice, Xbots always try to side with Nintendo fanboys in hopes of being able to be on the "winning side". But that's just a showcase of their low confidence on their own system.

PS3 fanboys used to defend PS3 when the bashings started escalating, but I guess they're more mature so they understand they gotta stop feeding the flames.

But in the end, all this don't matter. If you guys truly love the systems you own, you wouldn't be on the net 24/7 finding the next chance you can bash on another system.
