Lightsabers in Wii's Lego Star Wars exactly what you hoped for

Some of you people have to realize that although certain games don't use the Wii to it's full potential, doesn't mean it's a gimmick system. If the dev's are lazy, it's a knock on them, not on the system. How could you call this system a gimmick when it's selling like wildfire? Sure, gimmicks are popular for sometime, but they die down after a while. It's been selling fairly strong since the release; the only console to stay on top for so long.
Besides, it hasn't even been a year yet. Give it some time. If sales are constantly slow two years down the road, then your argument might hold some weight. But until then, it's impossible to judge.

Yes, it is. The definition of a gimmick is a single feature that makes a product stand out. Unfortunately, that usually means the gimmick is used to overshadow all the product's deficiencies. I think you have to admit that is the case with the Wii.
Yeah, everyone sucks down this Gamecube in a new box because it's all about the controller. Well, if it's all about the controller, why do you have to buy the whole system with all new accessories? If the Wiimote is so awesome and versatile, why do you need a Virtual Console controller? The way it's marketed, you'd think the system itself is more or less just irrelevant baggage rather than revolutionary.
And then, we get games that don't even TRY to take advantage of the controller's special abilities. Hey, look! I found a new way to substitute a digital button! It's course and sloppy, but that's OK since the game will pretty much play itself for me!
I will admit it's revolutionary, though. Never before have I seen a machine make bad games acceptable just because of the emotional attachment people have to the controller.
* "If the dev's are lazy, it's a knock on them, not on the system."
I don't say they're lazy, anymore. They just know they shouldn't spend too much time working on a game since that's less time they can spend on their next game. It's not apathy -- it's economy.
Less dev time = more games = more money. That's the siren song Nintendo has been pitching since the beginning, and unfortunately, Nintendo is right. Mario Galaxy is what sells the system, but Link's Crossbow Training and the hundred other games that get cranked out on shoestring budgets are what make the bacon.

@Killjebus
If you knew what you were talking about, you'd realize Lucasarts made the game, and that Nintendo has no control over how dumbed down the control scheme is.
I suggest you direct me to another current console that is revolutionizing game control. Oh wait, I forgot, there's Lair on the PS3-a brilliant innovation, utilizing motion sensitivity at its finest.
Except for the fact that Lair is one of the most universally criticized gameplay experiences available on PS3. Oops.
Let's face it, while Wii Lego Star Wars has poorly implemented controls, it's not Nintendo's fault. Ask anyone who's had the privilege of playing Galaxy how it controls; Nintendo created that. Third parties are capable of making games with great Wii controls too-Metroid Prime 3 plays better than any console shooter I've ever played, and it looks beautiful to boot. Even Wii's simplistic and shallow launch title that shipped w/the system, Wii Sports, plays so intuitively that all kinds of people have been able to pick it up and learn it in a few minutes, if not seconds.
Meanwhile, 360 offers us a smaller, wireless Xbox pad. PS3 offers us the Sixaxis, a lame wireless version of the same controller that's been around since the early 90s and gimped motion control that appeared on the GBA years ago.
Wii may have a sizable amount of mediocre titles, but give it time. I was completely hopeless about the DS when I bought it-I nearly traded it in a few months after launch because of lack of titles. But as more and more developers get in on this and really figure out how to exploit this new technology, we're going to see some absolutely fantastic titles, especially if Corruption is any indicator of the control direction of Wii shooters. Look at the DS now-it has the richest library of games in the current generation, even when you exclude its GBA backwards compatibility. And not just rich in the amount, but in the sheer quality of many, many of its titles.
My point: make fun of specific games all you want, but Wii is here to stay. Within a year it WILL have a powerful library of games, and there WILL be many must-have titles. Xbox 360 has a bunch of must have titles, but then again it was released long before PS3 and Wii. PS3 is a non entity so far, both in terms of sales and quality of games. Resistance is its biggest selling point-yes I know there will certainly be more great games for it, but it doesn't have the buzz Wii has going for it and will therefore have less developer interest. Mark my words, once developers realize how to best exploit Wii technology, Wii will DOMINATE.

Wii = dead gimmick.
Sorry guys, but if you guys honestly think this is the "next wave" or what's coming in the future ... you're retarded.
A gimmick is a marketing tool to entice consumers to an otherwise standard system. Gamecube with a new controller, anyone?
The original "HOLY GOD WOW THIS WAGGLE THING IS AWESOME WATCH ME BOWL" hype is dead, and soon will be the Wii. Sure it'll be around for some time in differing capacities, but it's on the decline and eventually the gimmick wears thin.
And LOL @ attacking my grammar and "style of writing" ... do you get paid for the things you write? Didn't think so.
Dead gimmick FTW.

Jaybird you go girl. Apparently the Japanese are starting to figure out what they are really buying. They see what is on the horizon for the PS3 and realize that is where they will spend their future dollars.
Sure, the Wii will be used for parties, but for serious gaming, where you become immersed in a different world will be left to the PS3 and somewhat the 360.
And before you say "well the PS3 has been in decline too" I will say yes, you are right. The PS3 was selling around mid 20's and now it is selling around mid teens.
The Wii was selling around 100k, and now it is in the 20's. Hmmn, which decline is bigger?

I just wanted to point out out utterly retarded jaybird and his gay lover are.
You say you work for Game Pro? And you talk like this? What do they do, recruit kids right out of the 4th grade?
You still can hardly get your hands on a Wii, and it is a year after launch. Name one system that is even close to the popularity of Wii? It is definitely not PS3 (talk about ALL HYPE and crap games), and XBox, laff, there is a reason they were talking about putting Halo 3 on Wii, it would be a better marketing scheme. Why? Because people own Wii's, they don't own PS3's and XBox's.
Even if the product is inferior in your small, withering brain. If you were actually working in the industry, you would have a flippin' clue about how it works. Windows isn't the "best operating system in the world" but it is the most popular. Because it works decently, it has outstanding marketing and a HUGE product support. This is exactly what the Wii has. This is why Nintendo is shipping out free wrist straps and covers for controllers, they are making MONEY! Unlike Microsoft and Sony who sell their consoles at a loss. MS and Sony are as idiotic as the printer companies selling printers for 5 bucks (thus why they are all LOSING MONEY).
I am a huge gamer. Wii is the hands down, most innovative system to ever hit this planet. The best since back in the NES/Atari days. PS3 and XBox are just the same rehashed garbage (with improved graphics) that Nintendo came up with over 20 years ago. They are not any better than an NES as far as gameplay.
The Wii adds something new and fresh to the gaming industry (See WoW for example). And just because some silly game using the motion controls like crap doesn't mean anything about the system. As others have said, it is more to do with bad developers (or retarded developers, which you could most definitely relate to).
The games for Wii are something that is truely just fun. Kids can play it, teenagers can play it, adults can play it, elderly people can play it. And they all love it. The gaming industry isn't all about "rated M games rock" and gore crap in every game. It is about fun.
I play my PC for "real" games, such as more mature titles. Playing a PS3 or XBox for this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The crappy joysticks and buttons cannot possibly compare to a mouse and keyboard. But the Wii delivers on Fun, and also kicks the snot out of the competition for controllability. The graphics and technical inferiorities of the Wii are the only drawbacks (and the ONLY thing that could ever be criticized).
The people that hate on the Wii are just people that are sour that they don't have one, or couldn't find one because they are still all sold out. Or maybe, still pissed off that they paid 600+ dollars for a PS3/XBox and still don't have any worthwhile games to play on them. Either way, I find it humorous.

Wow lego starwars what a great idea.
I love the idea for the lightsabre motion controll. It seems it could be done better tho
ugh. I think the developers still have much to learn before they master the force woops
i mean motion controlls on either Wii or PS3.
Me=PS3 version it may not have motion based lightsabre but it does have motion vehicle steering like the Arcade cockpit Vector graphics starwars machines with aircraft style 2 handed controll.
should be fun
