Midway also confirms a new Blitz game
Though much of last night's hubbub was about the will they/won't they delay of Unreal Tournament 3, Midway also let a few other game releases slip in their financial report. One was an upcoming Mortal Kombat, which we already heard about, but Midway also confirmed that they were working on a new entry in the X-TrEmE football series, Blitz. You no doubt remember Blitz for its steroid juicing and the ability to send hookers to the opposing team more than for, say, the football part.
Though we're happy for any series that helps make EA want to put an effort into Madden, we can't help but be bothered by something. In a world where Chad Johnson celebrates touchdowns by finding Jimmy Hoffa and shooting fireworks from his fingertips, O.J. Simpson is on a nationwide crime spree and Michael Vick eats dogs whole, how much more extreme does football need to be?

...this is nice, but I'd rather see MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL(or HOCKEY)brought back, remade/updated, and online playable. u_u"
WiNG @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:28AM

Blitz makes EA care about Madden, huh? Joystiq must be hitting the crack pipe pretty hard these days.

EA Sports Executive Assistant: Sir, we've just got wind that Midway is launching the new entry in the Blitz series!
Peter Moore: What?!? Is Madden '09 finished yet?
EA Sports Executive Assistant: Yes, sir. Just waiting on the roster updates.
Peter Moore: Haul that code back out. Get our graphics staff on the floor. Splash image on the main title screen: I want you to anti-alias that motherfucker!
EA Sports Executive Assistant: Sir, that could cost at least $75 in labor!
Peter Moore: Damn the cost! Midway and their so-called Blitz franchise must be crushed once and for all! Do it! NOW!
EA Sports Executive Assistant: Yes, sir, right away sir...
Peter Moore: Oh, and one more thing. The PS3 version?
EA Sports Executive Assistant: Yes, sir?
Peter Moore: 25 frames per second! MUUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!

LoL that malicious bastard. He probably would dip the PS3 version lower in framerate than they did this year... and then write it off as saying "they don't understand".

"Michael Vick eats dogs whole" quite possibly the funniest thing I have heard so far today. haha
FrankTheCrank @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:22AM
They should also confirm that the game will no way in hell look like that picture you posted representing this game. Dream on.

Well I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this bad boy never lived up to its cover art either:

Doesn't make it any worse of a game.

I played the hell out of Blitz for N64.

It's not about making football more extreme persay. It's about taking those seedy things that actually happen in professional football and putting them in your face. Then add arcade style play mechanics and you have yourself a fun football game. Madden, on the other hand, is just a sim that filters out off-field shenanigans and presents you with a utopian sort of game.

The off the field stuff on Blitz: The League was super entertaining...the gameplay itself was kind of wonky...if they could tighten up the gameplay and keep the drugs and violence storyline I would def. purcahse a Blitz: The League 2

I'd love to see a more arcade-style football game. The extreme simness of these new sports games kills me. I don't want or need 6 different pass buttons, I want fun gameplay that my friends can learn in 5 minutes and will have fun with.
Something less realistic and more interesting and dynamic would be fun. And if they throw in hookers and drugs, so much the better! ;)

Anybody else think number 53 looks like Ron Eldard?
dvnt @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:39PM
53 is Bill Romanowski. 56 is Lawrence "LT" Taylor.
GregG @ Oct 5th 2007 7:12PM
my bad. he still looks like ron eldard.
Derek D. @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:42PM
A football game more realistic than Madden, woohoo!
