Sony Europe says no 'big bang' announcement Oct. 12
Even though GamePro France said there would be a "big bang" announcement on Oct. 12, Sony says it's not happening -- well, at least Sony Europe does. Eurogamer spoke with Sony Europe and they say there's no "press conference" scheduled for next week. We'll believe them, especially if they chose their words perfectly as to remain truthful.
We have no idea about what date Sony will announce the 40GB PS3 model or if it's going to go on sale in Europe, but we are pretty sure at this point it exists -- almost positive. Could be announced next week, could be announced in a month. At this point its just fun to watch Sony keep a lid on it.

No conference next week doesn't mean there won't be one tomorrow or Friday.

Maybe it's a "stakeholder conference", or on Oct 11 or 13, or a "little bang" announcement... Sony will say anything.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 3rd 2007 5:39PM
They're still announcing the 40 GB model. They just finally realized it wasn't a "big bang," and more like "the same old bang with fewer gigs."

I don't know how Sony thinks we listen to any damage control anymore. In just the last six months, parts of Sony have said a number of things which ended up not true.
No PS3 Price drop. No PS3 Price drop. Did we mention there's a PS3 price drop?
I mean, how am I supposed to believe anything they say anymore if they never stick to what they tell us?

This is like a suprise party at work: you know it, co-workers know it. Everyone feels awkward but kinda goes through the motions.
Thanks, Sony, for bringing the worst of the corporate world to the world of leisure.

The announcement was delayed to 2008 :P
I guess Sony is denying this to create suspense or excitement or well I don't know what the hell they are thinking, is the same they did with the Psp 2000 rumors they keep denying them even when everybody knew about it.
That or Sony Europe really doesn’t know crap, every time any source ask Sony Europe about anything they respond with something that can be easily translated into “lol I dunno”
Probably is about the 40GB model or some Home related crap.

"The announcement was delayed to 2008"

I agree that Sony's divisions aren't all in the loop. Are they even in the same solar system?
Phranctoast @ Oct 3rd 2007 6:15PM
Now maybe MS will also cancel their announcement scheduled for Oct. 11th
CaptainAmericaX @ Oct 3rd 2007 6:17PM
I guess they realized they were talking out of their ass about nothing important at all.
Burritoclock @ Oct 3rd 2007 6:21PM
They lied last time, why wouldn't they this time???
Mr Khan @ Oct 3rd 2007 6:32PM
I think we've learned by now not to trust the European branches of these corporations for any news anyway

Whimper FTW.
Ikthog @ Oct 3rd 2007 7:30PM
They're announcing that they're pulling the PS3 from the shelves and taking their toys home, and that, quote, "You won't have PS3 to kick around anymore, because gentlemen, this is the last PS3 press conference." Then fanboys everywhere will rejoice, as they will finally have their wish -- no choice. Woo-hoo!

Scream in Hell Fernando wannabe.
Night Elve @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:30PM
Yeah! The only person in this blog that can throw shit on SONY is Fernando so back off !!!
Ikthog @ Oct 4th 2007 12:36AM
Um... you do realize that comment was aimed at the Sony haters, right? Hmm.
kingrottenboy @ Oct 3rd 2007 7:44PM
Its obvious what Sony is doing!!!!!
They really want no one to buy a ps3, so they leak out that a new cheap 40 gig model is coming out, so that halts anyone who was thinking about buying a ps3 soon to wait for the 40 gig model. but there is no 40 gig model, Its Sony way of keeping all the ps3 to themselves, they are greddy bastards

Over the summer it seems that Sony Europe has been undermining every major announcement SCEA was going to announce. The first price drop, sony europe kept going on record saying there wont be one. So what needs to happen is sony Europe needs to shut up when it comes to what Sony US is planning to do, because they have no control nor do they have complete knowledge of whats happening.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 3rd 2007 8:30PM
I was hoping it was new controller colors. hahaha
Poisoned Al @ Oct 3rd 2007 8:38PM
It could be:
-0- There IS a big announcement to be made but as always they swear blind there isn't because it will hurt sales (why buy a new machine now when there's a price drop coming?)
-0- There was an announcement, but it was rubbish and they know it so it would be a bad idea to get people's hopes up again. (40Gig unit, duel-shock 3 or another half-arsed "AAA" title. F**k-a-doodle-do!)
-0- There's something big, but it's not ready yet.
-0- That the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing and sends out mixed messages, which is always a problem for big companies.
bobjane01 @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:39PM
maybe a another silly Sony marketing scheme to get people talking?
Jouten @ Oct 4th 2007 12:11AM
I think it's going to be a new bundle/price drop announcement. Maybe, 40g with a (S)hake, (R)attle and (R)oll controller along with one game (RFOM or HS?)? Could be, you never know with Sony these days. That would be awesome though. I would be willing to finally shovel out 399 for that kind of bundle. But until they come out with FFXIII or some other big name RPG/Adventure exclusive, my wallet continues to wait until they do. In the meantime, I'm still trying to play catch up with all the awesome 360 titles, latest Wii and DS title releases and the initial build up of my new PSP Slim library.
I'm going broke as it is trying to keep up with all the hardware/software available to all us gamers.
Sad. You know how they always say to take a break from gaming every so often (hourly?) to not burn yourself out? I use that break time to read the game sites (Joystiq, etc.) lmao1

It probably was the 40 gig model but after it leaked and the world went "yeah, so what..." they decided that they better re-think the "big bang announcement."
