April Fool's 8-bit tie now available

Back in the April of '07, we spent one long weekend dealing with the multitude of April Fool's tips we received -- one of those tips is now real. Although ThinkGeek created the WiiHelm as their big joke, it was their subtle 8-bit tie that got people upset who tried to purchase the item and ThinkGeek said they'd actually start making it. Now the 8-bit tie is available in all its glory for purchase.

The ThinkGeek site says the item is made of a "very silk-like microfiber." Due to the item being handmade there will be slight variations on the edges, but for a $20 tie we're really not going to complain. So go out and rock the 8-bit tie.

My exact response. I followed the link to buy one, read that, and said hell no.

They don't have much of a choice in getting the look uniform.

Ditto. If you want to imprint gamer=loser in your coworker's minds, just wear this clip-on to work.

If it wasn't a clip on wouldn't you be driving yourself nuts trying to get the knot just right? Tie on would be cool but it isn't feasable.

Some of us can tie a tie. Double Windsor knot ftw.

I tie all my ties but aesthetically speaking you can't have the black outline perfectly lined up everytime unless you are horribly anal and patient...

Amusing, yes, but you could not pay me enough to wear this thing out in public.

I had been checking thinkgeek almost every week since they announced they would be making it for real, trying to get this thing. Glad I saw this rather than wait for the automatic notifier, because I'm sure it's going to sell out by the end of the day. Got my order in, though.

I do wish it came in red.

it's lame to make fun of the guy in the picture. so what if he has a few tattoos and black hair? i know alot of people like that that could kick your asses. he doesn't even have eyeliner or anything. lame. i give the attack posts a 2/10.

I would buy this but:
A) I'm currently broke. Like, megas broke.
B) My job's dress code is business casual, but it's so slack that you wouldn't ever guess I was dressed for work.

The guy in the picture definitely detracts from the tie.

I thought to myself, will I look like as much of a douchebag with that tie on? No emo hair or "cool guy" tats. I think I'm good.

Gee, I kinda wanted this until it became available. I bet I'm not the only one.

I think that tie could finally get me laid.

That said, I've got a few weddings coming up where it'll look nice. Or at least put-off family members, either way I win.

And yes, I can tie a normal tie. But I think that a tie with specific jagged edges would make it more difficult.

Also got the Futurama work sign and the Holy Hand Grenade plush. The sign will look nice next to my Big Daddy and the HHG will go well when my roommate is raiding well after I've gone to bed. Again.

And the tat on his left arm is Asteroids.

They don't ship to my country (Malaysia). I'm said. ;_;

I like nerdgear. But I find this one overrated.

oh thank god i just became a manager and now i have to wear a tie to work, i wish it wasn't a clip-on but oh well

It's not the tats or the hair. It's the expression. He should be smiling and giving a thumbs up, with an expression that says "Holy balls this tie is giving me extreme pleasure! BUY NOW!"

Now he's just saying "Crap, my whole life fell apart just 'cuz I wore this stupid tie..."

actually that tie looks more 16-bit, since a 8-bit tie would probably look like 3 pixels and not be able no have a high detailed pattern.
