The rabid fanbase of Team ICO (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) reportedly sent in "a couple hundreds of e-mails" to Official PlayStation Magazine last month, hoping the outlet could glean some new information on their current project. This month, OPM published one of those letters and provided some promising statements.
When asking Kaz Hirai about Team ICO's current happenings, another executive in the room reportedly blurted out "I'm pretty sure they're doing the sequel." No other information was discerned, given that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are based on, erm, "similar" worlds and art styles, we're interested in what direction Fumitu Ueda and company will take in terms of game play.

lol. only on joystiq will you find gamers talking shit about Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
even the people that don't like either game can appreciate what it does right, and it's contribution to the timeless "games as art," debate, but not on joystiq! oh no! there are people that have to bring it down.
look, if there's one company that will could do something clever or creative with the Sixaxis, it's Team Ico.
i don't think they *WILL us it, but if they do, i'm certain they won't force the mechanism on gamers. a lot was learned from the Lair debacle about the importance of having the option to use, or ignore the motion controls.
for example, i don't use the motion controls in Heavenly Sword. i prefer the analog sticks.
my roommate on the other hand, *ONLY uses the motion controls, and he's happy that way. he loves the game.
different strokes for different folks.
Lair attempted to do something different - actually, no different than what Nintendo is doing with the Wii, where a lot of their games (ie Wii Sports), *ONLY use motion controls, the difference, is that Nintendo succeeded with the experiment; at least for Wii Sports and a few simple mini-games. when it comes to more complicated games, the results are a lot more spotty.
Lair is the first attempt at a fully motion-controlled PS3 game that *ISN'T a simple mini-game collection or sports game where you have to swing something (bat, racket, fists, for example), and it wasn't quite so successful at it.
there will be other attempts, and who knows, eventually one of them will work.
for every Wii Sports, there's like four or five Red Steels on the Wii.
right now, the PS3 is 0 for 1. and if motion controls *NEVER work out for the PS3, well, at least analog sticks are still an option. the Wii *HINGES it's success on the functionality of it's wand. if that fails, then the console falls apart. the PS3 doesn't have that pressure, so while it sucks when an anticipated game like Lair bombs (for the record, i actually *LIKE Lair, despite it's mediocrity. for another record, i really *WISH they had let me use analog controls), it's not going to spell the end for the system.
after all, for every Lair, there are, oh, i dunno, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword (good game, just short, which, apparently, only applies to PS3 games, because when a 360 game is short, it's 10's across the board! *cough*Bioshock*cough*Halo 3*cough*Gears of War*cough*), Unreal Tournament 3, Haze (Free Radical's pedigree means this game will at least be enjoyable), Uncharted, Ratchet, Folklore, Eye of Judgment, Little Big Planet, , Killzone 2, MGS4, and FFXIII, to name only a few.
people are harping on Lair, because there aren't a bunch of exclusive PS3 games out right now. come this time next year, Lair and it's shoddy game design will be forgotten.

to Mr. Khan, comments like this, "Team Ico is known for rushing there game because they just want to make money. Also sadly Team Ico has always sacrificed gameplay.
SOC was a joke."
are what riled me up. i don't expect everyone to like Ico or Shadow of the Colossus (until i played the Ico demo many moons ago, before the game released, even *I wasn't sure if i'd like it or not), but to outright call a game a joke, for no real, logical, or even backed up reason (saying they rushed a game for money is kind of silly. and *ALL developers want to make money from their hard earned work anyway), is a little annoying.
as for Fernando, he's a lot like Eminem, in that Fernando finds it hard to refrain from blabbering about the Playstation 3, despite his outward hatred for it, leading me to believe that he's a closet Playstation fan, and really *WANT'S a PS3, but can't afford one. Eminem, is constantly wrapping about homosexuals for the same reason:
he wants a Playstation 3 also, but can't afford it either (you didn't think i was going to imply that Eminem was a closet homosexual, did you?).
anyway, Fernando's brief moment of insight concerning the worth of Ico and Shadow isn't enough to negate the tons of posts he's made mindlessly bashing anything that *ISN'T Nintendo.
to Matt B: lol. thanks!

Mr. P is right.
So the title of this post is technically wrong, because Shadow of the Colossus already has a sequel, it was called ICO.
Also, Fernando Rocker, you have crossed the line of fanboyism into sheer ignorance. I'm as much of a Nintendo fanboy as the next guy, but to claim that Shadow of the Colossus "was a joke" is just plain asinine.

ICO is not the sequel to Shadow of the Colossus, because ICO was released first. You wouldn't call Halo 2 the prequel to Halo 3, would you?

Vil, i think what he's referring to is that, according to the timeline of the game world(and Fumito Ueda himself), Ico takes place *AFTER Shadow of the Colossus, despite the fact that Ico came out first.
*SPOILERS*
Fumito Ueda said that the Wanderer from Shadow of the Colossus basically sired the horned children of Ico, who are viewed as evil, and encased in stone coffins to die, and that's where Ico begins.
Shadow is the prequel to Ico.
that is all.

I love both of those games. But in a way they are the types of games I don't want to see a sequel to. I'd rather they made another original sweet game.
Just one of those things.

I doubt they'd do a sequel as in you fight 20 more colossi, but they're bigger and in HD this time, and I certainly wouldn't want to see that either. Hopefully by sequel they mean another game with new gameplay mechanics in the same universe, sharing some story elements from the first two.

I'd be much more excited about this if Shadow of the Colossus hadn't sucked. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay was fun, but the story was shit. All 15 minutes of it was poorly written and just boring.

In all seriousness what are these two games? I've never even heard about them...

I mean, you couldn't bother with Google before you typed and then confirmed that? Or is that more feigned ignorant "What's a PS3?" anti-Sony rhetoric, as if these games weren't worth even hearing about? Weak move either way, and I think you sort of clowned yourself.
Really, dude, for me, that just put the nail in your crediblity's coffin. This thread will be looked at by those who read it as the one that pretty much disqualifies the worth of your opinion.
In fact all of the haters, with their new sidekick, "Teh Slay3r" or whatever, have really gone way out of their way to completely dumb-out tonight. Your posts are way beyond informed opinion that people might not disagree with; you're just not making sense. That's a good developer and those are solid and loved games, and it's become apparent that you only want to shit on other gamers if they happen to like something other than whatever system you like. And if you think it's fair play because you remember some thread somewhere that you saw a Sony fanboy talk some shit, then BE THE BETTER PERSON and don't stoop to the level of "that stupid Sony fanboy."
Jesus, this whole thread should be deleted/burned. Abysmal.

Did people somehow forgot how to use the internet? B/c quite frankly, is really sad on how people are making a bunch of stupid statements on this two titles. Go to Wikipedia slackers, this to two titles are related. And on bashing the game...
Listen, I understand folks have their beef with certain titles and such, but at least make the statement educated on the faults of the game then saying some immature statements that make you sound like you just started playing games when the PS2 cameout....And you know what, I might be right.

I really wasn't too impressed by SotC, actually. I give it props for what it tried to do and, to it's credit, it's the most movie-like experience I've ever felt while playing the game. It's also the only game I've ever played where I developed a (relatively) emotional attachment to the characters in the game.
But the gameplay itself was pretty weak. The controls in particular are just awful. Not just riding the horse, either. The entire time I felt like I was fighting against the game to get him to climb or stab or whatever else.
Sometimes it felt like they were going for that...and I can see the logic behind it...but that doesn't mean it worked or should have been done.
I actually liked the low framerate, though. I thought that's partly what game the game a lot of it's charm. It helped give the game a more cinematic feel, oddly enough. Most likely because you don't notice the unnatural CGI character animations/movements as much.
It's one of those games I don't know how to rate. I didn't particularly ENJOY the game itself, but I really liked the overall experience.

I concur, samfish. Sometimes you spent more times battling with the controls mechanics, then having to fully enjoy a smooth out control experience. But, I only encounter those type of bad camera issues and control problems with the environments...Certain areas of course. Took me a while to "deal with it" or better yet, let it slide. But like you pointed out, the World of SC, is very engrossing due to its Cinemaic Nature and pacing. The Boss battles alone make this game a CLASSIC, in my book. I took the game for what it was, and cleary enjoyed it. Might not be the most polish game outthere, but it did something right with its Art Direction and gameplay Mechanics on the Bosses that will sure inspire future games for this gen and beyond. The OST....I don't even have to explain how good it is.
