Jeff Minter tweaking Gridrunner++ for XBLA
Jeff Minter, cuddler of sheep and designer of psychedelic shooters, has updated his Stinkygoat blog with a mention of his latest endeavor: Gridrunner++ for Xbox Live Arcade. The original scrolling shooter, which requires you to survive numerous waves of enemies in increasingly disorienting levels, will have its graphics and controls overhauled to better suit the Xbox 360.Minter hopes it'll make for a "more involved game" and is first focusing on "getting all the gameplay working first." That's just as well, given the polar reactions his Space Giraffe galloped and/or flew into.

A disorienting Jeff Minter game? (gasp!) Impossible!

I'm pretty sure you meant, "Inconceivable!"
Jonah Falcon @ Oct 4th 2007 5:34PM
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Korova @ Oct 4th 2007 5:40PM
"Eric"? Is that you, Ludi?

Why would they let him do another game for XBLA after that piece of shit Space Giraffe? Just how close ARE Jeff and J Allard?
Bloo @ Oct 4th 2007 6:41PM
Some people say Zelda Ocarina of Time is a "piece of shit". Some people say Space Giraffe is the best game ever. One thing is for sure, your opinion is as worthless as mine.

This is what's great about digital downloads. It hardly costs MS anything to host it, so why not release it? It's nowhere near as expensive as shelf space, so the more quirky games (which I really like) can carve out a niche market for themselves without worrying about distribution charges. Plus, you get to demo everything, so it's unlikely anyone will accidentally download Space Giraffe.

Wow, space giraffe! That game should be prepackaged with psychodelics. It actually has sheep bleeting as part of the sound track, in space! Just wow! This one is a system seller for sure.

Yes, package physical objects with an application you download off interwebs. Good job, my friend.
Korova @ Oct 4th 2007 6:19PM
i totally missed that. I got hypnotized by the space giraffe video.
Anyway, drugs a beee-aad!

Space Giraffe is one mindfuck of a game, that is for sure.

I haven't played Xlive games other than Sonic 2 for the past 3 weeks but I must say Ewes and lambs pwn,I wish I live in Scotland just to have a bunch of them ,then I guess I will eat them…Damn life is though.
Anyway isn’t Space giraffe one of those games you play when you are high?

Scratch that I would never be able to kill an animal(well maybe if it's ugly enough) yet I would kill a kid infront of his mother for a new PSP 2000 and a Wii.
(ATHF reference FTW,I swear FBI)

Only those who refuse to listen when told that Space Giraffe is not Tempest HATE it, because they played Tempest, and Space Giraffe "looks like" Tempest, so they assume that it's Tempest even though everyone TELLS them it's not Tempest, and that it plays differently.
You may go "meh" if you're not into abstract shooters, but that doesn't prevent it being a great game.
I'm a little annoyed that he's remaking Gridrunner++ though. It's a good game, but I was hoping that he would go out and do something original just to shut up all the fucking detractors (although, honestly, he did that with Space Giraffe, and got bent over for it, I guess the lesson is never try).
Diskoboy @ Oct 4th 2007 7:22PM
I've been playing Gridrunner (the original) since the c-64 days, and have GR++ on my PC. This game is actually quite fun, and is NOT another copy of Tempest.
This is basically a psychedelic version of Centipede.
Blue_Falcon @ Oct 4th 2007 7:24PM
Space Giraffe is one of the best new games to come out of the XBLA. I might've been absolutely dreadful at it, but it was a whole lot of fun.
By all means, bring on Gridrunner++.
Diskoboy @ Oct 5th 2007 2:02AM
Oh - and you can all play the game RIGHT NOW!!
Just click the link, in the article (the blue 'gridrunner++' hyperlink) and download the demo (Or buy the full version) to play on your PC or MAC!
There's even a mobile version for Java enabled cell phones!
I'm done with the exclimation points!

Space Giraffe rules. I don't know what people *aren't* smoking, but if they were they would know whats up. I still liked Tempest2000 better, but SG is a nice little treat as far as XBLA titles go. GridRunner++ should be cool too. Jeff Minter's the man.
