By the looks of the photos he didn't really have much lighting going on in the room in the first place. Perhaps turn whatever the light in the room is on? Oh, and spotlighting, especially when close, is going to make it more difficult for the Eye/EyeToy to see anything, as it makes the point you're aiming it at too bright, and all the other areas too dark. Just try and turn on as much "soft" lighting in the room as possible, and even try and get the mat close to the TV to catch some of it's glow.

Still trying to decide if I want to buy the bundle or just the camera. I want EyeCreate and the minigames etc. but I don't want to get EoD and all that stuff ends up missing.

My living room doesn't have a central light in it, but I have lamps and

I have mixed feelings about this game when I tried it out at Digital Life.

On one hand, its a cool concept and the card game plays well.

On the other hand, the design of the cards is absolutely horrid. That and a big part of the card game for me is the confrontation between the opponents. I thought it was going to be like the YuGiOh Anime were the holographic images were there for show but the opponents were looking at each other in conflict. Instead, you are constantly looking at the screen and you want to win the board instead of beating your opponent, losing that interaction.

I think this game is a great start to what could come. They have the best partnerships they could have here being wizards of the coast and hasbro. It is a strategy card game also not just a standard one try reading about the game. I played it at gencon and it is quite amazing. You can play 2 player in the house or online or one player. I don't believe this is a gimmick either. Gimmicks are statistically added features to pull people in without real cause. in my opinion the wii is a gimmick. The movement is so little that you are not really adding anything to the game that you can't achieve with hitting a button. Now mind you they could have made the cards electronic but then you couldn't play unless you have a ps3.

So the EyeToy 2 is not a gimmick? Seriously? And how many games coming up over the next year are planning on using it?

good example of an AMAZING idea falling short.

If you have to hover over the thing with a light when the room isn't immaculately lit, then that's pretty brutal.

I HOPE TO ANYTHING that they do this kind of idea with Magic: TG that card game is amazing, and it would be even better seeing the characters come to life on screen and battle

It would require all new cards to be able to recognize any kind of data on them.

Maybe the room was just uncommonly dark in this case. At least my living room is very well lit. :)

Firmware update? It'll work out the box with the PS3's video chat, allowing for multi-person video chat with audio though right?
Not sure what a firmware update will achieve unless you're saying it won't work atm on the XMB...?

Eye of Judgement is one of those sweet unique pieces fo gaming that will be remembered forever. In the way Steel Battalion was. A rewarding, unique, extremely over priced and hardware cumbersome (qualifying cards as hardware). But if you can get a small batch of dedicated people it is probably extremely rewarding. Too bad I don't have the budget, nor my friends, to invest in something like this.

It looks like this is only going to work if I have the Eye position above a table in a well lit room. But my game console is plugged into the HDTV in the media room where there are only side tables. I don't think I am the only one like this.

Did anyone think this through?

has anyone actually looked at the pictures... their so called 'well lit room" looks like a cave with a tiny desk lamp shining right on the board. In fact the picture with the hand holding the card is almost completly black on the one side.

TURN A LIGHT OR TWO ON.

who would have suspected a cheap web cam like device cant read codes under darkness...

This is certainly one of the coolest games I've seen in a long time. It's very surreal to see things popping out of cards right on top of your hand. I'm kind of surprised that you guys weren't all over the neat factor of this game.

On a tangent here, but why is the default avatar Mario? Isn't that more of a Wii/DS Fanboy thing? I would think that a joystick would be more fitting (and unbiased) for a blog called Joystiq.
