There's a bit of bubbling on the internets that post-Halo 3, Bungie and Microsoft might split ways. This is seeming more and more unlikely, but if it were to ever happen, Microsoft would most likely retain rights to their FPS cash cow, and the milking would begin. The question is, who would be signed to develop the next true Halo sequel?
Over at MTV's Multiplayer blog, Stephen Totilo does the dirty work and compiles a list of likely suspects to continue the franchise. Notable on the radar are developers like Rare, Free Radical, and id, with each possibility being given "wholly speculative" odds on the likelihood of such a thing ever happening.
Of course, it's all just speculation at this point, but it never hurts to wonder. Who could work best with Bungie's golden franchise? For that matter, who could do the most damage to its hallowed reputation?

If id got the contract, it would come out in just in time for XBOX360 5.0.

What's wrong with 3D Realms....aside from the fact that the game would never come out??

I don't think Free Radical really has the track record, and Rare would probably destroy it very quickly.
Team Ninja would have to add their female Spartan Nicole, which might suck up a lot of resources because they'd probably have to add some sort of jiggly physics.
So I'll go with id.

In theory YES but all the knowledge about the issue is pure speculation IMO the next game in the series should be Marathon: The prelude I mean how the hell did Master chief got there in the first place?

think about it, marathon begins with a combat cyborg in hypersleep, who is awoken by an AI when their ruined ship crash lands on a strange planet, a year after the events of Halo 3, and contains many allusions to the Halo universe.
If you saw the legendary ending to Halo 3 then you would realize that its basically the prelude to marathon.

I'm sick of all you tards. THERE IS NO LEGENDARY ENDING AFTER THE CREDITS. You get that cinematic in ANY difficulty.

Zeus the God,
there is an extra 15 seconds at the end when beaten on Legendary that does indeed hint at a Marathon connection.

Carmack hates the PS3 and Xbox 360? "Hates"? From what I've read and seen, he's pretty happy with the 360, but feels the PS3 isn't quite as developer friendly.
John Carmack on the 360: "The Xbox 360 will probably will be id's primary development platform. ... All of our tools are on the PC, and we re maintaining the game running on the PC, but probably all of our gameplay development and testing will be done on the Xbox 360. It s a really sweet development system.""

Yeah, if MS gave development of Halo 4 over to Rare, that would pretty much be the worst mistake ever.

Well out of the group there I would hope it is Free Radical seeing as they have made some of the best games out there. Just to let you know I am not talking about the games they made with the Free Radical name but what they did before they made there own company. Many members to that company made Golden Eye and soem other big first person shooters.
But if it could not be them I could see Team Ninja being the one to make the game seeing as Tomonobu Itagaki has said in the past He is a big fan of Halo and even He is listed in the credits in Halo 2. So His team could make the game.
As for Rare if Rare was to do it could turn out like crap or if they make it like Golden Eye and Perfect Dark not Zero to let you know the game could be really good.

My guess is that the next Halo game won't be centered around the Master Chief, but will just be set in the same universe.
Halo: Fall of Reach, maybe?

Who could do the most damage to its reputation?
Nintendo obviously, although Microsoft wont buy them until after releasing Halo 4.
Developed by Microsoft Game Studios' Nintendo branch and released in 2015, the cel-shaded Halo 5: Master Chief and Friends; Superstars Adventures in Dreamland is a massive disappointment.

Well I will play your game
I say ID since Doom 3 was pretty good well that's my 00.2$, it wasn't a bomb but it was actually good a Halo or Marathon game with the Doom 3 effects would be spooky and cool also that Id has a lot of experience in the FPS department but it might end being like Enemy territory Quake Wars.
If ID isn’t available Epic would be the one. The Unreal Engine might break or bend the game a little but it would look awesome also I would like to see a halo game a la Gears of war with cover mechanics and more creepy and realistic enemies.
Rare, I have to say that I must be the only one here that doesn’t hate them in fact I like most of their games. Story wise er… No but the gameplay is great, IMO Rare could make Halo 4 (Cough Marathon: The prelude cough) but MS would have to hire someone else to do the script and the story.
Team Ninja? Lol NO but I would like to see a Naruto game made by those guys
EA, Activision or Ubisoft could do it but I’m afraid of the results.

Theres always the possibilty someone will create a mod for UT3 that takes place in the Halo universe. While Bungie would not like it (like Halo wars) the mod could be done fairly hush hush, and could be completed and released before MS/Bungie was any the wiser.

id Software will never do a licensed game. They are purely doing their own IP now and forever into the future. So guessing that they would do Halo 4 is just stupid.

Guessing that Bungie will leave MS to develop original IP which sounds kind of silly since Bungie have only developed 3 Franchises so far and 1 of them might be the extension of an older one also sounds stupid so just join the fun.
What ya think could the creators of Fallout handle Halo 4?

I'm not sure what you mean about the "creators of Fallout" and what that has to do with anything. Black Isle has been out of business for years, and Bethesda (who have inherited the Fallout throne) isn't really the ideal choice for this type of game.
Some developers who could make a pretty good Halo 4:
Raven (Soldier of Fortune, Jedi Academy, Elite Force)
Starbreeze (Riddick)
Gearbox (Brothers in Arms)

I'd definitely trust Free Radical with it. Not only have they made the excellent TimeSplitters series, but their staff comprises of ex-Rare employees from the GoldenEye 'era'. Of course, they're busy with Haze and TimeSplitters 4 right now.

What ever happened to 'finishing the fight'? I thought Halo was only a trilogy. Thats like making a 4th Lord of the Rings movie or something. It just doesn't make sense.

Jackson left off the last 80 pages or so of Return of the King. Maybe Bungie can claim they did the same.
