the gears story in theory was EPIC no pun intended but the game just didnt show that hopefully the movie does but isnt there a book out. The halo books are great spartans being able to run 1 kilometer in 37 seconds (speed not really shown of in the game unless you have a custom game) the game does not do the story justice :(. i more of a RPG guy myself because of the story but FPSs are fun too.

Bleh I say! Physical effects are the only way to go. I hated 300 (and Sky Captain eve more) becuase of the fake looking CG... everythin! Either make it a CG movie or a physical movie.

Said Beattie, "There's no way to build that world any other way, really."

That's a dumb thing to say - it's called imagination, use it. And the fact that the words "reasonable budget" are already being tossed around doesn't bode well.

I wish these studios would wake up and get back to making films properly. Take Star Wars Episode 4,5 and 6. They managed to make such epic films without any CGI whatsoever. When are we gonna see some grit!!!???

They ought to ensure Paramount or Warner does this film. I'd hate to see Universal mangle it, or see this released only on Blu-Ray.

Why bother with a Gears of War movie? It was really subpar in terms of plot and character development.

Everybody knows that the LucasArts classics are overdue for a live-action film treatment!

DAY OF THE TENTACLE!
OUTLAWS
and
ESCAPE FROM MONKEY ISLAND

These three properties have all been begging to be films since day one. In the case of OUTLAWS, they even have a complete score by Clint Bajakian that needs to be put on the big screen.

But Gears of War? A lot of running and shooting. That's it.

Fully green screen movies almost always look cheesy, 300 is one of the few that turn out great. I'd rather a real and gritty look for GoW.

They should just render the whole movie in the Unreal Engine. The movie should just be one big advertisement for the Unreal Engine 3. They could be like, "You can do THIS."

Nah, really, that's stupid, but I'd still watch a movie like that. :D

300 used a blue screen. I have no clue if there's a difference.

While green screen might make the movie look better for cheaper, 1) Gears should spend the money to make it the best and 2) why not just play the video game? IF you use an all digital background and all digital enemies with digital..stuff, why don't we just play the digital version.

I must say that i really dont have that much FAITH in Games to Movies adaptations anymore... and if they were to make this movie (Gears of War) and is anything like the game then it WOULD LOOK BADASS (for Sure) but it would be DUMB as F**K, but i guess it would not matter cuz everybody would see it or a lot of people would, but it would probably be a waste of time... So here's to Hoping it does not SUCK if they ever make it. Instead a movie Studio should pick up the RIGHTS to God of War which could be sooooo much interesting in so many ways and there are many ways in which the plot of the movie could play out. Big Screen + Greek Mythology + Badass Game = FIRST MOVIE WORTHY OF ATTENTION... KRATOS....... I know this was suppose to be about Gears of War (which i love and play a lot) but i could not help it talk about God of War... A Man Can Only Dream Sometimes...

LiqwidZero: 300 used a blue screen. I have no clue if there's a difference.

In 300 they used both blue, and green screens depending on how they wanted the light to reflect in different scenes. The green screen tends to light up the scene a little more and bring greater contrast to the red parts (like their caps).

There's no way that this is going to beat the Super Mario Movie where Dennis Hopper was Bowser.

Anybody having Dirty Disc problems with their 360 and Halo 3? Has everyone seen this:

Has anybody noticed the reverence with which Frank Miller's comic books are adapted to films? Sin City and 300 may be the two best comic-to-film adaptations in recent history. I don't know the background for the two films, but it seems that Miller's involvement and the respect the filmmakers have for the creator as well as the content bleed over into the final product.

The only prayer the Gears of War movie has is that it is handled the same way Miller's films are handled.

...and by the way, arguing for rudimentary effects like those in the original Star Wars trilogy is like arguing for Disney to reopen their hand-drawn animation feature film studio. Times have changed; a combination of live action and CG has been flawlessly executed many times already. Using a green or blue screen (or a combination of the two) doesn't necessarily translate to a bad movie.
