What a terrible thing it is to hold sin in your hands, gently pressing its buttons and marveling at the pleasing electronic beeps and boops it emits. Its digital delights entertain for hours on end, but they merely distract from the gnawing guilt and anguish inside. Only when it is turned off is the perpetrator revealed, reflected in a glossy LCD screen.

You've come to depend on us for providing you with the Japanese hardware sales chart -- the objective and unaltered numerical truth of all consoles and handhelds. Full disclosure must triumph! Towards the end of our trip to Tokyo, on September 24th, we altered the course of sales events. We passed our greedy hands over the chart's fate and altered it ourselves, adding one Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII edition PSP to the outcome. The price was heavy, but the price of our meddling was far heavier.

Also, we just had to buy 3,528 Xbox 360s in anticipation of Halo 3.

And now that Japan has had its fix of Final Fantasy its soon gonna be back to business as usual for Nintendo with the DS Lite beating the PSP.

And yes Halo 3 definitely moved some systems in Japan. Thats a good thing.

I'd be more worried about sony's renewed enthusiasm for making retarded statements and dumbass decisions...

But then again I'm sure you think Backwards Compatiblity is "last gen" too.

Sad thing though. Even with Halo 3, the PS3 AND PS2 found some way to continue outselling the 360. You'd think a global phenomenon would have more global impact.

Especially when nothing to challenge it was released on the PS3.

im pretty sure everyone in japan has several DS's buy now. :P THE PSP is a great piece of hardware. keep it going square soon the best KH spin off will show up and the PSP will be back at the top.

the japanese generally hate american products, the 360 never had a chance to be anywhere near the top there. but there are some japs with more open minds, good for them. 360 has tons of great games. i have like 20 myself

The 360's failure in Japan has little, if not nothing, to do with it being an American system. It has more to do with the high amount of American/western games.

The power of FFVII is unstoppable. Just make the goddamn remake......and bring it t0 360.

God no. I'm already pissed enough I red ringed on Bioshock and I'm currently missing out on Halo 3. Imagine if my characters find Aerith just in time to see the sword and the game locks up, restart and ringed out.

Nope, if they make something as incredibly awesome as FFVII remake, I want it to be on a system that doesn't have such a high rate of failure.

Final fantasy will not ever e going on a microsoft console as what microsoft be the leader thats a never in game industry sony is coming back to number 1 next year with most lineup and most leveled out chart in there gen .and even now with the price drop makes it even better.no b/c no problem.they have all there games coming to the playstation store anyway instead of me input the cd i just download the game

Funny thing is, while 360 sales haven't boosted by a larger margin than this, Halo 3 WAS the best-selling game for the week in Japan.

But, it's likely to drop off the charts completely next week...

Go PSP. Nice to see some variety at the top of Japan's list. I was getting tired of seeing the Wii and DS on top. Maybe next week we get give the PS3 some love. Then get the PS2 back there. And if we're feeling extra frisky, let's see some 360 on top. Well now that's just crazy talk.

Damn people think that Japanese people purchase the XBOX 360 – it’s most likely the US service men and Americans working there - I am sure there were a couple Japanese purchase it but not enough to equate to adding to the increase in sales. There are currently 33,453 U.S. military personnel in Japan and about another 5,500 American civilians employed there by the United States Department of Defense.

Wii continues it slow precipitous decline.. dont blame shortages (there are none) or moving units to USA (theyre region locked at the factory)... WiiFit cant come soon enough.

I don't know, selling 24,143 on a decline while the next one after that selling 13,105 is bad because of the arrow is red and pointing down, doesn't seem like its doing very bad.

Never-the-less, doing 24,000 a week is still a pretty impressive number for the slow months. I mean didn't the PS2 do similar numbers back in the day?

Anyway, DS is doing great still, it should be interesting to see where PSP levels off now that their new version is out and a major game has it. As for Wii, it seems to be doing pretty well in comparison, no longer obscene, just, where things should be I suppose.

I'd like to know why people can't play games without being a biggot on one side. Do people seriously not have gaming collections from all eras and all makers anymore, or is it just a collection of one company's successes?

You guys wan't to end your 14 year old like comments? here: The PSP is selling because there is a popular game , its declining because the people who bought it don't need another copy, duh. The Wii is dropping, AS IS EVERY OTHER CONSOLE, because there are no new games coming out at this time that are big (halo exception). I really don't understand what is so hard to grasp about this? When there are no new good games, there are less sales. If there was a POKEMON game for Wii, or a FF game for PS3, you can expect them to be high too. Dang, what is wrong with you people.

It's just because the PSPs are new and there is a FF game. When DQIX comes out for DS, it will sell even more than it used to. I'm not bashing the PSP or anything, but it IS because of FFVII (and kinda the new model).

Still people in Japan don't give a flying crap about Halo 3 but I'm glad to see the PSP in the N°1 but my guess is that it won't last probably it will return to the usual 22,000u.

Talking about Halo 3 trying to get every single one of those damn online achievements is the most frustrating thing I have done in a XB360 and this is coming from a guy that got the "Saint" achivement in Dead Rising.

After I get all the achievements I'm going to throw the game away and play oblivion for a while.
