Too Human video developer diary coming to Xbox Live
Despite their qualms with Unreal Engine 3 licensor Epic Games, the title looks good (though, in the era of BioShock and Mass Effect, nothing breath-taking). However, the footage we saw does seem a bit slow, hinting that the game might not yet be optimized for higher framerates. The concept art is interesting, as is their approach to Norse mythology.
Although we like hearing about their approach, we'd love more to see what specific aspects of the mythology were incorporated and why. Unfortunately, that'd likely spoil the entire first game, so don't expect that video to surface until much, much later, when Too Human finally manages to come out.
According to a press release sent to us by Microsoft PR, the video is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, although we couldn't find it. In the interim, we've embedded the video above.

Mark my words, this game will suck out loud.

A-friggen-men
Not only that, but you'll probably be able to see the ending about a week before it gets out on the streets.

That's really great. You can tell, just by, I don't know, intuition?, maybe, that the next game that comes out from a company that made ETERNAL FREAKIN' DARKNESS is going to suck? Did you even play ED?
I mean, yes, it could suck, not everything Nintendo or Konami or Treasure puts out is fantastic, but to state with anything even remotely resembling certainty that Too Human will blow chunks is to both spit in the face of the previous efforts of this team, and to assert yourself as a video game prophet.

syco, not too many 360 owners were also gamecube owners, and as a consequence many of us (myself included) never got to play this mythic, amazing Eternal Darkness game that is continually brought up whenever someone mentions Too Human.
So really, all we have to go on is a short list of developed titles mostly from the 90's, some videos that so far don't make the gameplay look even remotely inspired, and the soap opera of Dennis Dyack making himself out to be a whining douche bag. It seems having 3 degrees doesn't save you from douche baggery.

I was never interested in the game. I'm still not. But now I'm kind of baffled that the bald stereotypical badass looking guy is representing Baldur. They're talking Norse mythology right? I'm not hearing things am I? If Norse mythology wasn't obscure outside of Odin, Loki and Thor this would be as bad as making Jesus the badass of your series. It wouldn't be bad if it were a huge joke, but they're taking it seriously. Watch out for that mistletoe.

This video made me laugh when the interviewee said, "It's a science fiction action adventure, and that in itself is a twist". Seriously, this game doesn't sound like anthing special and looks pretty average as far as the concept goes.
However, I could be wrong and they'll surprise me.

Anybody else notice the Sentinels from Halo?
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 5th 2007 7:53PM
meh. if this game ever comes out i'll check out reviews of it
WhoMe @ Oct 5th 2007 7:58PM
This game is basically a blatant ripoff from just about every other game/franchise (Halo, God of War, etc).
It's funny really, about a year ago I watched an interview with this Dyack or whatever his name is character. He was basically comparing his game to Halo, LOTR and then just flat out proclaiming that his game was so much better than those games/movies.
I really wanted to see that game fail and after the embarrassment that was their E3 showing along with the UE3 debacle... well I feel sort of, yes, satisfied.
Come back when you have learned some modesty (as it suits you when you don't have anything to show for yet) and have learned to program a fucken game.

I... I wish I had a 360 to watch these with.
But I'll probably get one when this comes out... whenever that is.
rruss79 @ Oct 5th 2007 9:56PM
Too Human is an action Adventure light RPG game that is very limited genre on the 360. Hopefully this game will be the boom because this is one area that the 360 lack. I like the art direction of the game and I hope they really flesh out the combat because if that is subpar then the game will bomb.
KiraXD @ Oct 5th 2007 10:23PM
its amazing how much this game was built up, but it seems ALOT of 360 owners (including myself) have basically written this game off. Dyack seems like a douche, its amazing how much crap hes been talking about Unreal Engine 3/epic, and yet theres still great games using it (Bioshock much?)without bitching.
Sorry but everything ive seen of this game has been subpar... average at best. almost unoriginal... i think ill pass on it.

Oh, great. A diary. By Dennis Dyack. That shouldn't be too insane.

To be honest, I liked Too Human a lot more before I actually saw the gameplay footage. Watching the videos of it in action leave me with so many questions. Questions like:
Why do you dash into all of your attacks?
Why does the sword glow?
Why does everything that moves leave a streak across the screen?
And last but not least, why is the camera pulled back so far from the action?
With that said, you can put me firmly in the camp of games that arent buying Too Human.

Say it with me.
Meh.
hung @ Oct 6th 2007 3:15AM
....Based on the end of the video, I can see now see why this game is taking over 8 years to make.
Paragon @ Oct 6th 2007 5:02PM
I may get a crap load of S**t for this, but I honestly love Silicon Knights. I mean they where the ones responsible for the scariest f**k-with-your-headiest game ever, Eternal Darkness. There was some really clever s**t in that game.
And they really nailed MGS: Twin snakes on the cube. I honestly was expecting a crappy port when I got it.
I'm really looking forward to "Too Human" regardless of the whole Epic Games mess.

When it was announced for PS1 it was revolutionary and was going to blend allot of gaming concepts that were never really blended together well. Then when it was then moved to Gamecube it still had a chance at making new strides in video games, not allot of people had their same direction yet. But now... I think everything they promised has been done and looking at the gameplay footage I feel its not what I was expecting 9 years ago. The Action/Rpg combo with lots of non linear changes is far gone, the only thing that could save it is their story. In that department allot of people like their games, personally I found their game story's drag on far too long. When I played Legacy of Kain blood omen for 30 hours I couldn't find myself to care to finish it, it was one of the first few games I have never finished. Eternal Darkness I completed but I found it so so. So Too Human doesn't impress me all that much and I probably won't be playing it.
Zeruel @ Oct 6th 2007 9:11AM
I'll say it again...
This game has taken eight years to come out, coming on nine. I'm tired of hearing the excuses of switching platforms, switching engines etc. By the time the game does come out it will be outdated in terms of gameplay.
And for Christ's sake, stop bringing up Eternal Darkness. You sound like the 30 year old guy at the bar who still brings up how he got with the homecoming queen his sophmore year. They lucked out then, and that's all they really have in their portfolio.
Mr Khan @ Oct 6th 2007 1:50PM
Not their only laurel, they also did Twin Snakes for GC which was a treat for GC owners, MGS fans, and GC-owners-who-didn't-own-a-PS1 (like me)
Their fault isn't doing poor work, they just have a lead developer whose a total douche, and a track record for taking a long-ass time for getting things done
