Strange isnt it? They wanted to make a movie out of a game, that tried to look like a movie.

You know how good the DOOM movie was with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. A Halo movie would probably be a theatrical masterpiece. This is a sad day for all. On the other hand, with the number of copies that Halo 3 sold there would be a huge installed base and considering all Hollywood cares about is churning out mediocre crap for the masses it probably would've been a huge summer blockbuster hit.

OMG. I expect Doom is the reason they wont make Halo. That has to be one of the worst films ever. I can't even see a way to make a bad Halo film, anc even if it isn't good it will still gross a ridiculous amount of money. How can you pass up the chance to make the Halo film. I for one pledge to buy the DVD/Blu-ray/HD-DVD/Holo-Disc(hey it maybe around by the time the film is made) if it guarantees the film is made.

The good news is this isn't going to be done by Fox which means it wont be blu-ray only.

For now, anyway.

How stupid can these people be. Halo 3 sells $170 million opening DAY, and they aren't cashing in on the Halo franchise by making a movie? I am pretty sure the movie would be amazing too, what terrible news.

If the movie Judge Dredd was anything to go by (not exactly based upon a game but featuring a character that never showed their face) the Halo movie will have to have some big name a**hat of an actor as the Master Chief who will spend most of the film running around with out his helmet on 'because my character (ego) wouldn't do that'

I think it will be a better film if they decide to do it with a bunch of 'no name' actors.

But the guys with all the cash will be thinking traditionally and they just wont get it.Just like every other video game movie ever.

Good. There's NO PLOT to Halo.

Oh, wait: Aliens attack. Soldiers fight them off. Lone ass-kicking hero looks cool while doing it.

No plot we haven't seen a million times before... And Master Chief ain't that cool in the role of alien ass-kicker. Frankly, the Space Marine from DOOM is the same guy, and we saw how that turned out.

Duke Nukem did it with style.

But really, After Will Smith in Independence Day and Ripley from ALIENS, what's the point to another ALIENS ATTACH EARTH movie?

There's nothing new here, kids. Move along. Halo is meant to be PLAYED, not watched.

Although, it might be a good comedy if they made Master Chief act like he does when played by a foul-mouthed 12-year-old on XBox Live.

Would they allow the protagonist in a movie like this to teabag the enemy and spend most of the movie jumping instead of walking while calling everybody a "F_g"?

@10

you're an idiot
there is a story to halo its just that you're too busy thinking about your next game of madden to watch the cut scenes or listen to any dialog in the game

@Shmil

I have never owned a copy of Madden, or any other modern football game, as I'm not a big fan of sports. I prefer the library to the football field. It's why I run a bookstore.

Cut scenes? Dialogue? Are you talking about gems like:
"Our big green style cannot be defeated!"
or
"The Taming of the Hunters! The Grunt Rebellion! Were it not for the Arbiter, the Covenant would have broken long ago!"

Oh, yeah. That shit should win the Newberry Award, for sure.

So, have you ever actually read a book without pictures or a video game license? Because Halo's dialogue is WEAK.

Perhaps you should consider that I have, indeed, played the Halo games, and that I found them lacking because the dialogue and the thin joke of a plotline are just ripped-off, weak, watered-down clips from much better stories.

We've seen it before. We've read it before. There's nothing new in Halo. Not One Damn Thing.

Halo is "deep" to mouth breathers like you. To me, it's a pale shadow of the material it's borrowing.

Is it a fun FPS? Sure. I enjoy it. But I wouldn't pay $10 to see it expanded into a 2-hour movie. What would be the point? There's nothing there worth turning into a movie... I prefer to PLAY my games, not WATCH them.

"It's why I run a bookstore."

Read: Gets fragged a lot.

Look, thin rimmed specs, running a bookstore, and references to Newberry awards might get the proudly unshaven Womyns Studies coeds wet, but ultimately, trying to use them to establish some sort of cred just makes you look like a tool. The dialog in Halo didn't meet your latte-swilling standards? Well that decides it then. Plot not good enough for your (psuedo-)intellectual needs? Sorry they couldn't base a FPS on the works of Kierkegaard.

Yeah, we've seen it before. It's the same, ultimately transcendent, monomyth that half of human literature and oral tradition is built around. With cool guns and spaceships. Complaining that it's the same story is as intellectually valid as turning down sex with a nymphomaniacal supermodel because, having f'cked a couple of fat chicks, you 'seen it all before'.

The Halo games are games; the cut scenes are pretty eye candy, a breather between chapters, a chance to get a soda. Yet you quote that, a tiny part of the canon as if it were definitive proof of something. If you're commenting on the quality of the Halo universe and/or it's suitablity to be made into a movie without having read the Halo books you're just confirming how silly and trivial your opinion is.
