Today's shredingest video: Guitar Hero III victor
Game Revolution's Nick Tan recently played Guitar Hero III song, Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce, on expert. That website describes it as the hardest in the game, designed to be "unbeatable." And Nick conquered it.Yes, weeks before you adoring, fake guitar fans get a chance to play, the hardest song has been bested by a player on his fourth attempt. The video of the event is mediocre, and the moment of triumph is anticlimactic. ("Go balloons, go balloons, we need more balloons. ...") But we were still floored watching this face-melting song --and player -- in action.
Be amazed by the clip after the break.

Hey!
It's the Wii version!
Skor @ Oct 6th 2007 6:57PM
Hey, it is the wii version! I didn't notice the indentation at first.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Oct 6th 2007 1:11AM
So DragonForce is officially the hardest song in the game?
DarkTetsuya @ Oct 6th 2007 3:04AM
"Through the Fire and Flames" *by* DragonForce, yes.
a ham sandwich @ Oct 6th 2007 1:13AM
thats sick to the point of being superhuman and unnatural
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Oct 6th 2007 2:33PM
Nope...he's asian.
isocrazy @ Oct 6th 2007 1:15AM
woo woo. he doesnt even seem that pumped. i woulda fist pumped after all tha twork.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 6th 2007 1:35AM
the "commentary" was annoying
but try 5 starring that song, that'll take more than 4 tries
Deviation @ Oct 6th 2007 1:55AM
The guitars are still too small. I'm not a big guy but I get all cramped up playing Guitar Hero II on the Xplorer. I'm hoping the Rock Band guitar (which is quite a bit larger) ends up being compatible with GH II and III.
Dragod @ Oct 6th 2007 10:50AM
It is. ^.^
There was a small update that allowed the wireless controllers to connect to the console. But it was confirmed a while ago that it would be compatible :)
I'm waiting for my Les Paul to beat Jordan, my Xplorer's star power sucks and because of it I can't get star power when I need it.
Dave Silva @ Oct 6th 2007 2:05AM
Just more proof that Asians are superhuman when playing music games.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Oct 6th 2007 2:39PM
The asians can pwn at their own asian games, but they don't have to make US feel like crap by pwning at American games.
Backslash @ Oct 8th 2007 2:14AM
'cept I'm Asian and I suck. :)
Maybe I'm not a real Asian. OR I JUST DON'T PLAY ENOUGH TO KILL MYSELF!
Chaos320 @ Oct 6th 2007 2:14AM
ahh....want to play and fail so bad... :(
The3rdNuisance @ Oct 6th 2007 3:40AM
... how... how is that even possible? Gah... this puts my inability to beat ANY GH2 songs on hard into a whole new level of mediocrity.
HOW!? Dammit, the robots from the future aren't designed like Arnold "Governator" Schwarzenegger, but rather they were designed as an inconspicuous Asian person.
Either that, or his reaction time was blessed by the god Emululu, who resembles a bowl of pescetti... spaghetti...
whymog @ Oct 6th 2007 4:13AM
The note chart is very similar to a homebrew version I have on PS2...and it's not very hard. Way easier than Jordan Expert, anyway.
It'll mostly come down to Star Power placement, I guess.
whymog @ Oct 6th 2007 4:15AM
To avoid criticism:
YES, I spend way too much time on Guitar Hero. I've five-starred everything.
NO, this isn't an easy song by any stretch of the imagination. It just isn't a proper successor to Jordan.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Oct 6th 2007 4:25AM
Beating it with Star Power = meh
Beating it without Star Power = Winnar
/can do neither x(
Sam @ Oct 6th 2007 5:33AM
This is a good enough successor to jordan for me in 1 way.
This is a good song :P
Hehe i love dragonforce like my own child and i cant wait to shred this one up, even if it is a little easier than jordan.
And yah i've played a few custom charts for this song on the PS2 version but none of them have been nearly close enough to the quality of this one.
Anyway...
BRING ON GUITAR HERO!
(On another note, anybody know if it will be region free?)
whymog @ Oct 6th 2007 4:04PM
The guitars will likely be region-free, but how many game discs are ever made region-free? I wouldn't hold my breath.
Dragonforce is great for a laugh, but they aren't actually a serious metal band. I mean, "Through the Fire and the Flames"? Does nobody see the redundancy in that title?
That said, the song is ridiculously fun to play. :)
jsn @ Oct 6th 2007 6:40AM
the song wasn't designed to be unbeatable, it was designed to be unperfectable. Nobody will likely ever get 100% on it on expert, just like jordan.
The song is kind of lame IMO. It's technically impressive but as a song it's hokey neo metal...
LaughingTarget @ Oct 6th 2007 8:43AM
Well, I figure if Dragonforce can pull it off without screwing up, with REAL guitars at that (which is significantly harder than the Guitar Hero controller), for a whole 7 and a half minutes or so, then someone will come along and get a perfect on Guitar Hero. It'll take some time, but it will happen.
ThalesA7X @ Oct 6th 2007 5:10PM
You also have to remember that a real guitar is far more forgiving when it comes to hitting the wrong note. You can play off a wrong note and 99% of listeners won't even notice. Especially if the song is as fast as this one.
LaughingTarget @ Oct 6th 2007 9:09AM
Depends on the distortion levels. High level of distortion, like DF uses, can actually amplify a screw-up to no ends.
Roddie @ Oct 6th 2007 11:05AM
Except that Dragonforce can't; look it up, there live shows are appauling.
Abortimus Prime @ Oct 6th 2007 10:04AM
Wait, wait, wait. Something's terribly wrong with this video.
The guy playing doesn't have a beautiful flowing mane of golden hair, or incredibly tight leather pants, or chainmail, or even a pair of gauntlets.
The first civilian to conquer Through Fire and Flames is *painfully* un-metal.
Live2Hunt @ Oct 6th 2007 10:37AM
this song's difficulty is rather exaggerated
i barely make it through Jordan in gh2
*shudder* there goes my hand
bounchfx @ Oct 6th 2007 11:26AM
I still think it looks easier than a lot of people are hyping it to be. but I'll probably get owned my first 15 times too
J8675309 @ Oct 6th 2007 12:11PM
Am I the only unimpressed by this video?
It looks entirely beatable, unlike Jordan.
Maybe if he had 5'd it, or I could see the multiplier in the video....... but it's way easier to beat a song than 5* it.
Probot @ Oct 6th 2007 1:32PM
For those saying it's not as difficult as Jordan, it should be noted that this video is only of the last couple minutes of the song, after the more difficult parts.
Here is the full song (See: 3:21):
http://youtube.com/watch?v=q3M2X4ZAH_w
I haven't seen the full version of the track in the game, so I can't say for sure if it's harder. But Jordan is really only hard during one part, for a couple minutes. "Through the Fire and Flames" seems to have longer sections of difficult notes.
CountChocula @ Oct 6th 2007 1:05PM
This song disgusts me. Not due to the difficulty, because as some have said, it's not as bad as Jordan, but due to the song itself. It sucks. It's a terrible excuse for metal.
People, you have to remember that GH3 has a bigger window of opportunity to hit the notes, so hammer ons and pull offs will be even easier this time around, which will make this song definitely not as challenging as Jordan.
whymog @ Oct 6th 2007 4:11PM
Although this thread isn't for discussing musical tastes, I'll agree. Dragonforce is almost entirely without merit musically. Doesn't mean I haven't gotten a laugh from them before.
Buckethead, on the other hand, is actually pretty cool.
The timing window change is going to make these songs that are filled with HOPOs so much easier to survive. I hope it doesn't kill the challenge entirely.
Diskoboy @ Oct 6th 2007 2:08PM
Did anyone happen to notice, on 'My Name Is Earl', this past Thursday, Craig T. Nelson, who was the warden of the jail Earl is in, was "playing" Guitar Hero 3??
Jason @ Oct 6th 2007 5:35PM
hmmm....give credit where credit is due?
didn't one of the scorehero guys beat this when they got the GH3 tour a few months ago?

dmbrandon @ Oct 7th 2007 10:02AM
That did not impress me at all.
The custom ps2 charts for songs like: Guitars Suck, Fury of the Storm, and Rude Mood are all WAY more difficult than that was.
Don't get me wrong, the guy is good, and I am in no way skilled at GH whatsoever... It's just, a few people who frequent a local gamecrazy have more than proved their skill, to the point that the site of these new songs aren't even wanted.
It's like Stepmania vs DDR. The quality may be off, but it still takes a lot more skill.
THF @ Oct 8th 2007 11:34AM
Didn't the people who run scorehero.com already beat this song? Then again, the people on that site are inhuman.
