This is why virtually every single form of "Christianity" is pure, unadulterated garbage. Instead of being guided by, oh I don't know, revelation, they rely on the media to tell them how to attract converts. Bravo!!! And don't even get me started on the Bible. Whatever happened to unpaid clergy? Does anybody follow that anymore? Who's God talking to directly anymore? Anybody know? Oh that's right, you have a Bible. Forget that the vast majority of the book wasn't even written for you. Try to block out the fact that the Bible itself constantly preaches the necessity of ongoing revelation. If all I had to go on was contemporary "christianity" I would be in the pit with all the atheists.

We are guided by revelation: personal revelation. I've often shared my personal revelations on this board, usually to much ridicule and heckling, with one or two supporters.

Unpaid preachers? So how are they supposed to have a home, have children, pay their bills, get married? Since churches are non-profit organizations, they get all their money from donations from the congregation. Nobody compells you to give money, they don't tell you you're going to hell if you don't, but reasonable people realize that the church can't survive without them.

Who's got talking to? Everybody. He speaks to all of us through personal revelation. It talks about that in the Bible too.

Crono,
I totally agee with you on the personal revelation thing, but paid clergy is in no wise supported, 1 Peter 5:2 comes to mind. And while personal revelation is all well and good, the church supported by Jesus and the early apostles had a definite structure with a clear chain of authority (Ephesians 4, the whole chapter is pretty enlightening but verses 1-14 particularly emphasize my point). The thing about God is that he's very organized. "One Lord, one faith, one baptism" and a "unity of faith" are something that a variety of churches just can not arrive at. You can receive guidance in your life and that's what personal revelation is aimed at, but as far as world-wide policy goes, sorry, but personal revelation just can't, and won't, cut it. What if I told you that I had a personal revelation that you should become a Zionist and move to Jerusalem? Probably not, right? Anyways, sorry for the rant, that's just the way I see it.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine heaven without being able to sit down with my good friend Jesus and enjoy a round or two.

I'm reminded of penny arcade's "Jesus is F*ing metal". I can totally see that happening.

Obviously the complainers are the ones who never played or understood the game of Halo. Halo is pretty much a futuristic variation of the bible. The flood, the ark, the covenant, nearly all of it derives from current religions and I'm sure a simple search would tell you this (and explain it in much greater detail).

There is nothing wrong with using this game to get kids in and listen to a pastor. I don't believe that these kids are being tied down and forced to convert. And whats wrong with teaching these kids some bibical truths? There is nothing wrong with a church using a revelant topic in today culture to try to get its point across. Why is it that whenever religion comes up there is this mentality in this society to scream bloody murder. Christianity practiced the way Christ wants will never hurt a soul.

I wonder what you guys consider overzealous, nutty, or crazy?

I make no concessions on whom I believe.

Examine yourselves at the moment. Is there such a thing as good and evil? Is there such a thing as right or wrong? Or have all these things been deteremined by some uber wise man/council?

I guess my point is...there is such a thing as absolutes. There is good, evil, right, and wrong. If so, then by what standard are these things judged by? By ourselves? By some wise counsel or wise men? Where do these standards come from?

If good, evil, right, and wrong are all relative, and depend on the culture and time frame at the time, then they are no absolutes at all, but temporary values. But...there ARE things that are always wrong, always right. Is it ever morally right to abuse a 5 year old? Is it ever right to committ adultery on your wife, or lie to save your own skin? What about robbing a bank?

For a reference, go read the ten commandments. Absolutes do exist, though people will rationalize almost anything these days.
