Since the Gears of War movie wants to be like 300, it should be no surprise that the EverQuest movie wants to be like 300 as well. In fact, they've hired 300 screenwriter Michael Gordon to try and bring some of his magic to the script. Hopefully that doesn't mean someone will be shouting "THIS! IS! EVERQUEST!" throughout the film.
Unlike Stuart Beattie, who is writing Gears, Gordon doesn't have an impressive set of credits to his name, other than 300. Couple that with the waning popularity of EverQuest every year, and the World of Warcraft film that is being readied, and it smells like a recipe for video store shelves and Netflix accounts.
However, we could be wrong and this could smash box office records, sweep the awards, and bring tears to millions of eyes around the world. We're just sayin' ...

you couldn't be more wrong, halo gets more hype, but the real revolution is WoW. From monthly subscriptions alone blizzard makes about 1.6 billion a year, not including merchandising or other stuff.
Last i knew, 1.6 billion (times the 3 years it's been out) is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 300 million

It'll probably be as clunky as when they tried to turn SOE's other MMO, Star Wars Galaxies, into a movie. That was what they based Phantom Menace on, right? It's the only reason I could figure as to why a Star Wars movie would turn out so badly...

I like how "Meet the Parents" is also playing.

There was "magic" in the 300 script?

I'm more surprised that 300 *had* a script, I mean the storyboard was already done, in color...

So when people start heading for the exits ten minutes into the movie, who's going to shout "train to zone"?

Great... after the great wave of superhero comics hitting the big screen, we get videogame worlds and characters again?
Call me up when Duke Nukem makes it.

As a former EQ addict, both roleplayer and raider, I have only one response: mwahahah, they can't be f'in serious!
The in game history had enough plot holes that Uwe Boll couldn't screw it up. Actual game story...Okay, so the commons could make a good horror movie. Picture a group of kids out for a day of skinning wolfs, night falls and they are surrounded by invulnerable glowing balls of light that try to beat them up. Suddenly, they hear Gix scream "You've ruined your own land, I won't let you ruin mine." Or worse . . . the dreaded "Grr.Bark.Bark.Grr"
Seriously, the only thing that would work is a teen dramaty about coming of age in a guild already fractured by various cliques. Some group of loot hungry friends who band together, over come odds, and bring their guild back together. Only to have to go through it all again when the next expansion comes out and some people hit max level before everyone else.

The idea of an Everquest movie is beyond laughable to be sure, but...."waning popularity of Everquest every year"? Are you kidding me? If you're talking solely about Everquest 1, ok, I'll grant you that one, but the overall franchise/IP and particularly EQ2 isn't close to waning every year. Aside from perhaps EVE, it's one of the few non-WoW MMO's that's actually gotten better and gained popularity the last year or two. Is it (along with everything else) dwarfed by WoW's shadow? No argument there at all...but a difference in comparative level of interest doesn't equate to 'waning' interest. I never even played EQ1 mind you so I'm not speaking as someone with blind loyalty to the world of Norrath or anything, and I didn't play EQ2 from launch, but I've played for almost 2 years now, and especially since the Echoes of Faydwer expansion launched I've seen a steady influx of not only new players in general, but a notable number of people who've gotten sick of WoW that have started playing EQ2 over the last year. And that's not to say it or anything else foreseeable right now would or will ever overtake WoW's subscription base...but if you're implying anything connected to the 'Everquest' universe in a general sense suffers from daily waning interest, in my experience that's completely false.
