If you've yet to get yourself an Xbox 360 in this post-Halo 3 world, Microsoft is of a mind to sway you with fast cars and terrifyingly tight pants this holiday season. New Xbox 360 bundles (yep, these ones) are set to arrive "retail-wide by the end of October," with both the $349.99 "Pro" and the $449.99 Elite models offering two games at no extra charge -- racing sim Forza Motorsport 2 and supervillain clobberfest, Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Though Project Gotham Racing 4's arcade styling would have held more general appeal than Forza's serious nitty-gritty, the latter's unquestionably a fine game for a freebie. The same holds true for Marvel Ultimate Alliance, a fun and accessible adventure both online and off. We rather like this bundling business.

I have had my elite since the first day they released the elites. Not one problem. No freezing issues, not framerate issuse, nothing! I play like 4-5 hours a night. It would be naive to think there are no more issues regarding the dreaded RROD, but maybe the defective rate has finally been dropped to industry standards. Also to say that a non RROD xbox 360 is the exception to the rule is a pretty ignorant statement. I highly doubt the majority of the systems were burning out. Sure it probably was 40% of systems dying but still that is less than half which does not make healthy 360's the exception to the rule.

The statement was a bit imprecise, I'll give you that. I was shooting too much for hyperbole there. ;)
But your comment that "it probably was 40% of systems dying" isn't exactly a heartwarming vote of confidence, either. A 40% -- or even 25% -- hardware failure rate on such a high-profile product is abysmal, even laughable.
It's also equally naive to think that the Falcons will solve anything when NO ONE has even had a Falcon 360 long enough to confirm if there's an improvement.
Just trying to be realistic here. Believe me, I'd love to get a 360 that ends up being as reliable as yours. Recent statistics don't support that possibility, however.

@starlord
I haven't seen any reports symptomatic failures among Elites. They seem to be solid and the ones out there now aren't even Falcons. They just have a new heatsink and some extra epoxy. Since the Falcons use the 65nm CPU and generate less heat, the situation can only imrpove. At this point I think you're pretty safe buying a 360 with HDMI(Zephyr board), and even safer buying a Falcon.

I'm entitled to my opinion, vinny. And I'll buy a 360 when I'm more confident I'll have a better than 60% chance of landing one that actually lasts, not because you think I'm "being negative."

Gee, I thought I was the only one who watched Megas XLR. What an obscure (but brilliant) show.

Ultimate Alliance is a great game to include in a bundle. 4 player local play is a blast.

I'm still meh... I have the same concerns as Starlord - and knowing my luck, I'd get a bad one.
Hopefully by the time hardware issues are resolved, I can go to the store and pick up Ninja Gaiden 2 and PGR. Anything else I don't really care about or will just wait for it to hit the other m$ platform (Vista).

In case it isn't clear in the article, Forza 2 and MUA do NOT come on the same disc like Jet Set Radio Future and that motorcycle game did in that Xbox bundle.

Two small games for free isn't making me want to buy the console anymore than it is currently.
Give me a discount dammit.

Will this be a good way of telling that it is a newer 360 model thus guaranteeing a falcon?

I'd recently spent $50 on Forza two and new Xbox 360 owners will get it free. WTF?
Now I know how those kids who bought Sonic or Sonic 2 for Genesis back in the day, only to see the game become a pack-in title for the system felt.

We just bought a new Premium 360 with the Holiday Bundle (Forza 2 and Alliance). Both games are in one DVD case.
Just wondering what the chances are that we have the improved heatsink. After reading all the reports on the net about defective 360's we were definitely hesitant to get one but xbox just has the best games and on line play so we took the chance.
Is there anyway to tell from the mfr date or serial number that we got the new heatsink upgrade ?
