Speedball II on XBLA next week

It looks like it's going to be a solid couple of weeks for XBLA releases. Not only is the outstanding Puzzle Quest due on the service this week, but it's going to be followed up by another well-regarded title: Speedball II. If you're unfamiliar, speedball is a game that combines handball and ice hockey. But, according to its Wikipedia entry, it has no rules. So, actually, it's more like Calvinball.

According to CVG, the game, originally for the Genesis and a few other systems, will be arriving with its HD face lift, new teams and online multiplayer on Oct. 17.

This was originally an Amiga game, not Genesis.

Calvinball was kickass

someone needs to pester Watterson into letting the license out for that to be made into a videogame (resuming the licensing fight that he so painstakingly won to keep Calvin & Hobbes from becoming the next over-marketed Garfield or Peanuts)

It's Kratos in his God of War II armor. He got so tired of all the Gods on Olympus and their bull shit and inbreeding, that he took some time off from kicking all kinds of ass to play Speedball!

Originally for the Genesis!!! You are on crack! The Bitmap brothers made the original Speedball and Speedball II for the Amiga!

The Atari what? Oh, yes, that garbage computer. The Amiga ruled over the ST and the Apple GS, big time.

yes, it was written for the Amiga first then ported to the other systems. The Atari st can can suck it ;-)

You know, when I first saw this, I thought it said "Spaceballs on XBLA next week." I've been waiting for someone to make a Spaceballs game.
Sigh.

I haven't read any Calvin and Hobbes in a while, but I remember Calvinball having one rule - that the same rule couldn't be used more than once. The nature of Calvinball, that every play has to be different, also makes it pointless to try to make a video game out of it.

the closest way to emulate calvinball not irl is with garry's mod

this was the bomb on C64 with the old Epyx digital joystiqs.. yes i go back some years.... i broke a few of those joystiqs on that game alone

you are right it probably was just on the AMiga, but hell they probably made it on the C64 as well... ah good old forgotten days

Hell, no. I think of it more as a cross between soccer, Cyberball, and Blood Bowl.

The game was, first and foremost, an Amiga title. Genesis indeed.

I remember the Atari ST. The CPU had a habit of becomign unseated and Atari's solution was to drop it on a table. ROFL

This is a great game.....I wasted HOURS on the Genesis version and kept it for like 3 weeks (it was a rental). SHould have just bought the damn thing.
