Divnich believes the buzz around the Xbox 360 is high enough now to deflect any effects if a cheaper PS3 is introduced to the market. Divnich says, "The cheaper price point will only be drawing customers who already planned on purchasing the PS3 but were deterred by the price." We'll get a better feel for the real impact of a 40GB model once Sony officially announces it for the North American market and see how it does at retail.

I would buy a PS3 IF...
I had a 1080p TV
Blu Ray was the next DVD(even if you hated the games{I don't, needs more though} it's still a great media centre)
PSN was more like XBL, even if I had to pay for it, but they are all about keepin' it rea...free (although they were all about keepin' BC because it was important, we know how that went...)
Multiplatform games at LEAST have the same quality as the 360, come on where is all that potential at, we all know it's there, even Fernando :D
Push that hardware, I wanna see what this thing can do already, stop talking and do it.
Chuck Norris is featured in a PS3 comercial...
Anyway... PSN is alright, but it would be nice if it was as good as XBL.
Next Sony Megaton: Home is $50/year for multiplayer; free to hang out!
Chuck Norris would be a major marketing +1 for Sony.
This is also the first time I've agreed with an analyst in forever. I don't think the PS3 price cut is trying to impact 360 sales, but for dick's sake it better impact some PS3 sales before Christmas.

This is rediculous.
Just because the Neo Geo cost a millon dollars when it came out doesn't mean that the Genesis and Super Nintendo were for "grandparents". Heck they were aiming for kids back then, that was thier biggest audience. Just because that audience changed doesn't mean that they are any less a player in the console war.

600 dollars out of the gate was a mistake. If it had started at 400 like the 360, it's sales would be dead even with the 360 right now.
Having said all that; The 360 has much better games, online, etc etc etc, so don't take this as some sort of idiotic fanboy rant.

The PS3's price drop is going to make everyone that wants a PS3, but didn't want to pay 600 dollars, buy one. I'd say if the PS3 hits 400, you will see a MASSIVE deluge of sales this holiday season.

and maybe one penny more.

You mean things like rumble and Hi-Def (without buying new cables right away)?
This isn't the right story for the debate of all the crap that the PS3 and the 360 should/could have in the box (like wi-fi on the 360 for instance, and rumble on the PS3)

The salespeople are tricky. I grant you that. But at the same time most consumers ask the right questions when it comes to games. Most normal people are gonna ask, "can this psTRIPLE play my uberawesome ps2 games?" And then whats the salesperson gonna do or say? Lie? I don't think so.
So people are gonna find out. And they're NOT gonna like it one bit. So I highly doubt sales of the ps3 will be going anywhere significant as we move into the holiday season.

I believe several analysts predicted that the PS3 would outsell the 360 in the USA in July, and they were all wrong about that.
My analysis is that the Dreamcast will sell 10 billion units this month. Why don't I get my very own article on a video game blog site?

That Sony finally realese more titles.
I buy PS2 not because of its superior technology or cool features but because was the console with more games.
And right now PS3 is failing in it. It has a great line of game planed but not yet resealed.
So whats the point? I buy a cheaper Ps3 for play heavenly sword for next 4 to 6 months until MGS4 is resealed. Great deal.

Also there's been a severe lack of ps3 fanboys lately. Back about a year ago, any negative sony news would be met with a horde of fanboy damage control.
Did they finally see the light?
