Makes sense to me, Halo is pretty big. And the part about dettered buyers is spot on, this is great for the people who were on the fence(except for BC...) but it probably wont get alot of new interest generated.

Oh wow, I'm confused... ok, anyway so as not to waste this post...

I would buy a PS3 IF...

I had a 1080p TV

Blu Ray was the next DVD(even if you hated the games{I don't, needs more though} it's still a great media centre)

PSN was more like XBL, even if I had to pay for it, but they are all about keepin' it rea...free (although they were all about keepin' BC because it was important, we know how that went...)

Multiplatform games at LEAST have the same quality as the 360, come on where is all that potential at, we all know it's there, even Fernando :D

Push that hardware, I wanna see what this thing can do already, stop talking and do it.

Chuck Norris is featured in a PS3 comercial...

Anyway... PSN is alright, but it would be nice if it was as good as XBL.

All great ideas, Raik!

Next Sony Megaton: Home is $50/year for multiplayer; free to hang out!

Chuck Norris would be a major marketing +1 for Sony.

I like how the analyst doesn't mention the Wii. He seems to be only anaylizing the battle for 2nd place.

This is also the first time I've agreed with an analyst in forever. I don't think the PS3 price cut is trying to impact 360 sales, but for dick's sake it better impact some PS3 sales before Christmas.

well the wii is for the casual market. and it has such a lower price/specs anyway that there's no comparison between it and the other 2 systems. apple vs oranges

Makes me feel this analysis is either a snippet of the actual thing or its biased, since winner for runner-up is hardly as impressive sounding as first place.

Why, when Nintendo is winning, are they in their own category now?
This is rediculous.

Just because the Neo Geo cost a millon dollars when it came out doesn't mean that the Genesis and Super Nintendo were for "grandparents". Heck they were aiming for kids back then, that was thier biggest audience. Just because that audience changed doesn't mean that they are any less a player in the console war.

I don't think there's a point in analyzing Wii. It's selling crazy well, so there's no point.

I have no plans on buying the lower priced version. I still own tons of PS2 games I wish to play again. If Sony decides that BC is no longer a feature then I'll either buy a good one on eBay or reconsider buying one at all. BC is my favorite feature of the Playstation brand, they really set themselves apart with their dedication to it. It would be sad to see it go.

If the PS3 comes out at 400, it's sales will even off with the 360. It's not so much that it impact the 360's sales, just that it will push the PS3's sales up to the point you'd expect them to be (after the success of the PS2 and the PS1).

600 dollars out of the gate was a mistake. If it had started at 400 like the 360, it's sales would be dead even with the 360 right now.

Having said all that; The 360 has much better games, online, etc etc etc, so don't take this as some sort of idiotic fanboy rant.

The ps3 needs games at this point. Price cuts will help but there needs to be a reason to purchase the thing in the first place.

Also there's been a severe lack of ps3 fanboys lately. Back about a year ago, any negative sony news would be met with a horde of fanboy damage control.

Did they finally see the light?

Of course all interweb posts need to be taken with a pinch of salt, but I've been seeing a lot of ex-sony fans say "ah screw it, I'm getting a 360!" I guess there's only so much shit a fanboy can try to justify. The only ones left are those who only bought a PS3 and are pitifully insecure. Mind you, that is the same for most fanboys of any platform.

"Not impacting" 360 sales seems to be a good call. Sure, both consoles are aimed at gamers, but the PS3 still has the media hub advantage under its sleeve. I'm still interested in the PS3 because of its additional value getting more accessible (also because of the fact that they have a non-proprietary online component).

The only thing the PS3 does that the 360 can't do is play BlueRay movies, and that's not even worth the cost of admission at the moment, since both HD formats are floundering. Not enough people have the tech to make HD movies worth it yet; I wouldn't put my money on either format at this point.

media hub.....you obviously havent seen a 360 stream movies and music from a pc thats 3 rooms away. not to mention the media center stuff. like showtime and hbo. I guess you didnt know you stream music at any time and have it override the game's music. Oh not to mention the marketplace they recently added family guy( you can get an entire season) and then when Iptv drops it will replace your cable provider. so tell us again how 360 lacks in the media hub department

How is the PS3 any more of a media hub than the 360? Both can have movies, music, images etc streamed to them. The PS3 has Blu-Ray, but the 360 can have HD-DVD with the add-on (which I assume will drop in price, should the PS3 actually hit 400 dollars. You heard it here first folks). I'd say they are about equal in that category.

The PS3's price drop is going to make everyone that wants a PS3, but didn't want to pay 600 dollars, buy one. I'd say if the PS3 hits 400, you will see a MASSIVE deluge of sales this holiday season.

ThornedVenom-

You mean things like rumble and Hi-Def (without buying new cables right away)?

This isn't the right story for the debate of all the crap that the PS3 and the 360 should/could have in the box (like wi-fi on the 360 for instance, and rumble on the PS3)

When casuals find out the $400 PS3 can't play their collection of GTA, FF, and God of War titles, they'll put off buying it until they save enough money for the 60/80 gb model. They'll hear about the BR player, Wi-Fi, HDMI, etc., but when the salesperson tells 'em, "It can't play any of your PS2 or PS1 games, but the higher-end model can," it'll turn off most simply because BC is that much more important to them.

It's really weird that a $100 price drop on a console as great as the PS3 can't combat the momentum of a single game. I've been working in the closest thing to a video game store for the past two months in Helena, Montana, (which is a medium to smallish sized city, despite being a state capital), and I haven't sold a single PS3. I've literally dusted the ones in our case off, and they're probably due again. Why the crap is this console so barely popular?

Sony's price drop = too little too late. Microsoft and Master Chief have captured North America.

Xbox 360 Arcade $279
Xbox 360 20GB Pro $349
Xbox 360 120GB Elite $399

PS3 40GB $399
PS3 60GB $499
PS3 80GB $599

You'd be surprised just how informed the average consumer is...

The salespeople are tricky. I grant you that. But at the same time most consumers ask the right questions when it comes to games. Most normal people are gonna ask, "can this psTRIPLE play my uberawesome ps2 games?" And then whats the salesperson gonna do or say? Lie? I don't think so.

So people are gonna find out. And they're NOT gonna like it one bit. So I highly doubt sales of the ps3 will be going anywhere significant as we move into the holiday season.

Game analysts? Don't make me laugh.

I believe several analysts predicted that the PS3 would outsell the 360 in the USA in July, and they were all wrong about that.

My analysis is that the Dreamcast will sell 10 billion units this month. Why don't I get my very own article on a video game blog site?

you know what make me buy a PS3?
That Sony finally realese more titles.
I buy PS2 not because of its superior technology or cool features but because was the console with more games.
And right now PS3 is failing in it. It has a great line of game planed but not yet resealed.
So whats the point? I buy a cheaper Ps3 for play heavenly sword for next 4 to 6 months until MGS4 is resealed. Great deal.

I think that if the ps3 actually had games worth playing, then the lack of B/C would be a non-issue. Why? Because the 360 hasnt seen a B/C update in almost a year, and no one fucking cares.
