Bass Fishing's return confirmed for Wii
While some of our fondest memories growing up are of lazily casting lures from the bank of some nearby pond, we're much bigger fans of soaking up the fishing experience vicariously without having to deal with the so-called 'great outdoors.' To this end, Hudson's Fishing Master for the Wii was a tame recreation of the sport, and to be honest it left us wanting, reason enough to be excited that Sega plans to release a port of its Dreamcast favorite Sega Bass Fishing for the Wii sometime next spring.
As previously rumored, the title looks to have gotten little by way of a cosmetic makeover since players first grappled with the Dreamcast's optional fishing rod controller nearly a decade ago, so those quick to call out the Wii for its failure to keep up the high-def Joneses will find plenty to balk at here.
However, Sega points out that this latest version will include 'content developed exclusively for the Wii,' though the company has not been forthcoming with what exactly has been added, only to note that Sega Bass Fishing will feature more than 20 different types of lures to entice the the game's four different kinds of freshwater bass. In addition, players will also be able to select the season and time of day, as well as choose from 15 different lakes, giving us plenty of reason to stay indoors as we try to reel in that elusive whopper from the comfort of our easy chair.

I know were getting a lot of attachments these days, but a fishing rod shell would be great.

I loved this game on the dreamcast.
SageClaw @ Oct 9th 2007 3:27PM
Very cool but does the lack of cosmetic make over mean that the Wii version is lacking or that the Dreamcast version was way ahead of its time? : )
I would buy it but as of reading this I have dusted of the old DC and plan on playing this game the way it was ment to be played.... fishing controller and all.

i had heard about this the other day on the ol internets and when i clicked on the thread that mentioned it i happened to be listening to John the Fisherman by Primus
Ill live and die a fisherman.

"The Family and the Fishing Net" is a cover of a song by Peter Gabriel. So's "Intruder." Primus seems to cover one Peter Gabriel song per cover album, and I don't blame them. I highly recommend the originals.

while it excites me to see them bringing a Sega bass fishing game to the Wii, I am throughly pissed at the fact this is a damn dreamcast port. Come on Sega! What gives? This game should be $10 on the VC. Make a new one for crying out loud.
Like I've been saying all along, the Wii seems to be a publishers best friend. All the sudden these companies can just shuvle out 5 year old games that are "redesigned" for the Wii and make profit again off a game that we've all played already. It's horseshit, and until it stops I'm not buying this "innovative" console to play old games with a new controller.

just a thought, anyone with $30 could probably get online or walk into your local mom & pop game shop and buy this game, plus the fishing controller and a dreamcast system.
That's alot cheaper than what this game will probably cost on the Wii and you'll get the same experience.

If Bass Fishing is just a port with some new fish, it better cost no more than 25 bucks. That's including the fishing controller. I'm surprised Sega decided not to improve things like water physics when the game would be that much more improved with them.

woohoo! more crap games for the wii... :(
colin @ Oct 9th 2007 5:25PM

YES!!! I loved this game on the DC. And that other fishing game for the wii sucks (Rapella or w/e). Can not wait.
Farb @ Oct 9th 2007 8:53PM
Finally. Now I can sleep at night.
Noddy @ Oct 10th 2007 5:29PM
FFS... How about some new games on this console, someone i would like to play...
I already have this one and Samba on my DC, i don't need 7 year old games on a "new" console
