I think "I make six figures" means that he can draw 6 different stick figures while wearing a helmet and drooling on his desk.

Woo hoo, I'm in the clear.
Shame I don't feel like getting Vista, though.

+1 for the "TURBO MODE" reference. Did that even ever work...?

Just try to play Pirates on an 80286 without turning off the turbo or using turd party software to slow it down.

looks great...but I'll wait until they port a version to a console...buying all 3 consoles was less expensive than buying a computer with the "real" reqs. KB+M might be more accurate, but I'm not going to waste my money on systems that need a complete overhaul/upgrade every time the next great game hits the shelves.

...waits for all the comments about how the "hardcore PC" people can build their next supercomputer to play this game than the next hardcore enthusiast....oh wait, someone already started on page1 about how they built one for just $700...good job! Then you probably pirated a copy of XP/Vista and forgot to pay yourself for all your time/labor...don't go into business for yourself.

PS- PC gamers have been pwned by Microsoft.

its not as bad as you think. Medium settings still look better than most games. I have an 8600gts 256mb, athlon 64 x2 5400+, and 2gb ram and i run it at medium settings with high effects(for the nukes)and high textures at 1280x1024 and i get a really good framerate. I can run it on all high, i just dont think it looks that much better and the framerate is really bad. AS for ultra high, the beta doesnt have it, but im guessing you need all top of the line parts, and possibly two gpu's, but then again crytek did say not too long ago that the parts to run ultra high(perfectly) arent even out yet.

EDIT: for me the the framerate on high was playable for me, it just got annoying in those intense battles where people are running and jumping around like idiots with explosions everywhere.

And the guys at crytek also said no matter what card you have, the higher the resolution, the more gpu memory you will need for better framerates. My card is only 256 mb, which is probably why it wasnt too good on high

I dont get why people whine so much about requirements on games like this. The rate of hardware advancement has slowed quite a bit from years ago. I can buy a system for not alot of money and still have it be a reasonable gaming rig in 2 years now. That wasn't possible all that long ago.

It's nice to have a gaming computer and a PS3. Sure, keeping up with the latest and greatest can get expensive, but if you break up your upgrades over time its hardly noticeable financially.
Spend a couple hundred on a mobo and processor and save up for a good video card. Then save up for another card for SLI. A year later, buy a new mobo and proc. and still use your SLI, save up for a new video card.....etc.
I've been doing this for years. Ive had the same case for 8 years, I just upgrade every now and then.

what about the 320 meg 8800 how would that handle it seeing I run it in DX9 and at a res of 1280x1024? Oh and I have 3 gigs of RAM and 3.4 Ghz Dual Core so yeah I meet those I am just worried about the card....

It should run really, really well given Nvidia's current drivers. The 640 MB version of the Geforce 8800 GTS only starts to really pull away from yours (in terms of performance) around that resolution; hypothetically (I can't run the beta, so I can't tell you how the game currently performs), if you were to run the game at 1600x1200, your card would struggle to render things at an acceptable framerate since your card is hitting the limit of how many textures it can store while the 640 MB version wouldn't have anywhere near the amount of trouble since it has more RAM to play with.

Also, take into consideration that most games run faster in DX9 than they do in DX10 since Vista isn't very streamlined at this point in the game (XP wasn't optomized for performance when it first came out either) and most dev's just sloppily shoe-horn DX10 support at the ass end of the development cycle without optomization (Capcom, I'm freaking looking right at you); if Crytek does as good of a job implimenting DX10 support as 2K did with Bioshock, your performance loss will be negligible at best should you move to Vista. IF you're really worried that your card won't make the cut, you can wait until November and see what ATI and NVIDIA are releasing. ATI's R670, from what I've read, embarasses the R600 (HD 2900 XT), is a single slot card (or double slot if you want the 825+ MHz OC version), runs almost whisper quiet (it's a 55 NM chip) and will retail for around $230-$250.00. NVIDIA's relaunching the Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB with more shaders (16 more scalar shaders, I think), but I'd expect it'll remain around the same price.

Hmm, I have a 1.8 GHz Athlon XP Sempron 2600+ and 9700 Pro AGP and 2.5 GB of DDR333 RAM.

Yup, won't run it. -_-;

DAMN THEM FOR THINKING GAMERS HAVE MONEY!

Geez for godsakes!

I know many of gamers like myself do have a job and make a decent living, but goodness gracious, this is asking a bit too much for just one damn game.

And, I thought paying $599 USD for a PS3 unit was bad enough...

WE AREN'T MADE OF MONEY GAME DEVELOPERS!

Oh, I don't own a PS3 unit, but between a PS3 and a new system, I'd rather get a PS3, at least that's CHEAPER.

Can anyone, who would know, give me an idea of how well my system would run it? i have :

CPU: Pentium D 3.4 Ghz
GPU: X1950 PRO 256mb
RAM: 2G running at 667-whatever, each stick

running Vista
would really appreciate a comment.

Barely. Look, the requirements are up there, take a guess.

But I think you'll run it. But barely. Pentium D's aren't as good as C2D's, and I can say from personal experience that having a C2D is a better way to go.

Arch,
I have an X1950 pro and It runs really well on medium settings in the beta that I'm in right now, not to mention, the beta isn't optimized and surely not the final code so I'm more than confident you'll be fine. I have very similar specs as well, 1 gig of ram and an Athlon 64 3700+ running at 2.4ghz and Win XP. Your 2 gigs is about the same as 1 gig in XP.

An 8800 is less than 300 bucks. I'm building a new rig this holiday, not only for Crysis, but the slew of other games available. There is much more than Crysis to upgrade/build new for this year alone, and it's a great time to jump in the game if you haven't already.

Man...I, for one am glad I got out of the insane PC hardware upgrade cycles. Last time I upgraded a computer to play a video game was to play Serious Sam. It's weird, I'm not impressed by graphics/special effects anymore. Crysis graphics - meh. 9/10 on the way to photo realism. So what? Maybe I'm too old for this shit...

i so need to upgrade, my only problem though is that I need a whole new mobo, as I can not upgrade my proc (amd 754), ram (2gb) , vid (agp, 7800 GS)
so if I could permanently borrow 1 grand to upgrade to a evga mobo, 4gb ram, quad core, and a 8800gts, I would be extremely thankful

WHy do they never support laptop chipsets? More and more people are buying laptops, and less and less are buying desktops.

And can we PLEASE get upgradable graphics cards in laptops? I can't afford to buy a whole new laptop for every new game!!

Good Ol Vista... First they take the titles from my TITLE BARs and leave me feeling disoriented and now this... if they are being specific when it comes to running DX9 and DX10 why dont they just say so? they are just telling us playing the game in Vista means you need a better computer.

I think PC requirements like this are helping to speed the demise of PC gaming...

Although the PC still offers the best visuals and (arguably) control set, the sheer cost of trying to keep up with the latest and greatest PC game is mind blowing. Not to mention that after making the investment its not going to be enough to run the next kick-ass game that comes out a year later.

Consoles are so much cheaper and more accessible. You may sacrifice rrreeeaaallllyyyy top end graphics, but you get long product life paired with good graphics and enough money left over to pay rent.

I am sure Crysis will be pretty, but this almost seems like irresponsible development...
