SingStar PS3 can't find the stage, release delayed

Reasons for the delay are not given, but the prominent theories are licensing issues and PSN problems. Sony says this delay will give them more time to test the SingStar PSN content "to ensure that it is as rich, simple and accessible a SingStar experience as possible." Don't fret Euro SingStar faithful, by the time the PS3 version comes out you'll be able to purchase a cheaper PS3 model and play all your PS2 SingStars on it too ... oh wait, no you won't. Oh well, there's always the SingStar PS2 bundle.

hahahahah. another lack of BC joke. Does it ever get old joystiq.
jsn @ Oct 9th 2007 9:34AM
no, it doesn't and it shouldn't. The delaystation 3 is too easy a target.
CaptainAmericaX @ Oct 9th 2007 9:37AM
LOL...sony strikes again...
And the answer to your question phranctoast is NO...
Delaystation 3 will never be old.
Jokes about BC will never be old.
Jokes about "playing b3yond" will never be old.
Jokes about sony and "next gen" will never be old.
But most importantly jokes about sony and "This is Living" will NEVER be old.
Its just that simple. Don't get mad at Joystiq. sony dug their own grave...
jason @ Oct 9th 2007 9:38AM
That's what Sony gets after they made such a big deal about BC early on. They should have kept their mouths shut.
Phranctoast @ Oct 9th 2007 9:41AM
I'll leave the 10 year olds to their fun.
AirIntake @ Oct 9th 2007 9:44AM
People much older than 10 have notice Sony's long list of fuck-ups.
CaptainAmericaX @ Oct 9th 2007 9:49AM
And we will leave you in your very sad state of denial phranctoast...
Noshino @ Oct 9th 2007 10:53AM

Badboy1979 @ Oct 9th 2007 11:59AM
To be fair, I think Joystiq does dish it out to everybody on an equal scale and not just Sony...
For example, here's a search on RROD posts: http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=RROD
... which returns post titles like: "Halo 3 goes gold, pray your Xbox doesn't brick"
So I think Joystiq has been pretty good at knocking everybody :)
sheppy2.0 @ Oct 9th 2007 1:18PM
I'd say the prime contributor is in the fact that this was supposed to be THE only Singstar for PS3. Future songs and expansions would be purchased in an iTunes like store. Now considering we haven't seen that store in a long time, nor anymore word on Singstar for PS3, I'd say the DLC plans of the Singstar franchise is bringing it down. They could easily port some of the Singstars from PS2 if they really wanted to but the new Singstar was supposed to have THESE features which are absent from current and future rhythmn games.
-Online store similar to iTunes, browse by gerne, artist, album, or even dates. Purchase a song or a full album.
-Interfaces with the new EyeToy to record videos to upload your performance on SingstarNet where fellow users could vote and rank your performance.
-Expansion packs delivered via VLC.
Now considering the current state of PSN, is this delay really a suprise? I'd rather they deliver on those promises and uncrowd the holiday season a bit rather than ship an theme pack and call it a day.
NukeAssault @ Oct 9th 2007 9:36AM
I was just singing that song to myself. O_O
IM CURSED!
warioswoods @ Oct 9th 2007 9:45AM
Karaoke lovers would not, in fact, have circled a date on their calendars for Singstar - it's not Karaoke at all. For some unfathomable reason, Singstar uses the original recordings of the songs (unless they're changing their format now, which is doubtable), so that there is no way to remove the original vocals. In other words, you sing along with the original artist instead of leading the performance yourself. That's pretty damn lame.
baby sea tuna @ Oct 9th 2007 10:41AM
Really? Weak. I just finally found a version of Singstar that didn't have an entirely pussified set list (Amped, I think it was called) but I didn't realize that you couldn't toggle the guide vocals. Guess I'll just have to K-Rev it until Rock Band drops.
jpn @ Oct 9th 2007 10:56AM
I own all 4 ps2 singstars, and i think you can toggle down the original lyrics while you sing? or toggle yours up?
warioswoods @ Oct 9th 2007 12:36PM
from Wikipedia:
"Singstar's backing tracks differ from those of Konami's Karaoke Revolution series and most traditional karaoke systems. Rather than recording a backing track without vocals for the purpose, SingStar features unaltered audio tracks by the artists who recorded the song, complete with their original vocal."
They may allow you to up the volume of your own vocal to help out a bit, or perhaps even lower some particular EQ range of the original to lower vocals slightly? (I've seen different systems try this) - but the bottom line is that any time you use the original recordings, the vocal will be present. There simply isn't any way possible to filter out that one track from the rest of the recording, except in rarer cases where you still have access to the original, unmixed tapes (but even then the vocals will likely saturate the other tracks a bit).
upz @ Oct 9th 2007 9:42AM
Great.
I guess Sony's just decided to give up this generation.
BulletToothTony @ Oct 9th 2007 9:43AM
"but the prominent theories are licensing issues and PSN problems"
lol i come to joystiq once in a while.. and this is what i always find... nice joystiq....
why don't you just put some big news (even thou everyone knows already) we hate the fucking ps3.. yeah that would feel good.. but wait the price drop is coming maybe you cheap ass can finally afford one..
what's gonna happen when the ps3 is the biggest fan base again you silly haters??? are you still gonna be twisting news like you always do..
come on joystiq.. is your site ran by a bunch of teenager haters?? try to be profesionnal for a little bit.. it would look good on you instead of making shit up... most likely is the psn.. who tha fuck told you this??
AirIntake @ Oct 9th 2007 9:46AM
Um, you don't know much about Joystiq, do you? They would hack on any company that fucked up this much. Sony just happens to be seriously fucking up right now, and Joystiq is calling them on it. Perhaps PS3fanboy.com would be more to your tastes?
jsn @ Oct 9th 2007 10:04AM
Take your head out of your ass. It's not Joystiq's job to make positive news for Sony. It's Sony's job to do that and for a year or more they've done nothing but screw it up. Don't blame a gaming news blog for posting bad news about them when that's just about all there is. You're just upset because you're an obvious Sony zealot (for some retarded reason), and rather than bash Joystiq for reporting Sony's bad news(they report bad news for everyone), why don't you write Sony and ask them to stop screwing things up for themselves.
copa @ Oct 9th 2007 10:16AM
Guys, be easy on BulletToothTony. Anytime there's a PS3 delay, he's used to ranting about how lazy and stupid the developers are.
But now the developers are Sony. He doesn't know what to do. His brain could asplode!
1600Points @ Oct 9th 2007 10:23AM
Failure to purchase a 600 dollar item which does not produce 600 dollars worth of entertainment (subjective) does not make someone a cheap ass, it makes them a smart consumer.
Mal F4cti0n @ Oct 9th 2007 8:40PM
Wow, you are quite the idiot, aren't you.
Joystiq is a bunch of teenager haters? They hate teenagers? This is a VIDEOGAME blog dude, they talk about VIDEOGAMES.
With that being said. Did Joystiq come up with the theory that it is PSN and licensing issues? No, it was the article they linked to from the "Read" button.
So, here is this site, Joystiq.com, that sums up the news from another site, gamesindustry.biz, and you don't like the news so you attack Joystiq? How old and/or how much intelligence to you have? My guess would be 12 years and NOT F*CKING MUCH!!!!!
Get off the site, you lost any and all privileges of posting and even reading joystiq. I would recommend you finish, at the least, middle-school before you decide to drop out because you think you are oh-so-smart and now oh-so-much, you mindless retard.
So how is that for baselessly attacking someone. At least I had somewhat of a reason, whereas you had none whatsoever to attack a site that summarized the news from another site.
megaStryke @ Oct 9th 2007 9:43AM
So how many PS3 games that were supposed to come out this year have been pushed back? What's the count at? Have we hit double digits yet?
Egster @ Oct 9th 2007 9:44AM
Another fanboy topic lol lol, joystiq is run by a bunch of xbox 360 fanboys that much is clear. Same lame jokes and immature attitude.
Anni @ Oct 9th 2007 10:52AM
Boystiq is teh jias!
Burritoclock @ Oct 9th 2007 9:51AM
Wow, even a stupid karaoke game gets the old PS3 delay. This was already ridiculous, now it's getting embarrassing...
Phranctoast @ Oct 9th 2007 9:59AM
explain my denial please. It been three days with every mention of the ps3 having to be about BC, and Im tired of reading abou it. Maybe not for some immature douchebags that need to make themselves feel better by ripping into a game console of all things.
I personally believe it was a stupid move. I use BC. Some people that dont use it think its a great move.
Sony offers the people that dont use it a cheaper alternative. Same as the 360 without its HDD, which limits the BC as well (not that much of a constant mention there now is there). So if you want BC in the 360 you buy a different version. Same goes with the ps3.
Phranctoast @ Oct 9th 2007 10:00AM
great reply system.
jsn @ Oct 9th 2007 10:17AM
That you care so much about what Sony does as to get upset at a news site for reporting the bad news that they bring on themselves is humerous to me. Why do you care? Joystiq is just reporting the news, just as they did when Microsofts RROD issues were at hte forefront of gaming news. It's not their fault that the ratio of good to bad news surrounding Sony and the PS3 is so out of proportion. It's like blaming CNN for reporting all the bad news that Enron created for themselves. Why don't you complain to Sony?
DBX00 @ Oct 9th 2007 10:29AM
jsn
Joystiq is a blog site, it does not simply report the news. News reporters are held to a standard that requires they have legitimate sources before broadcasting. Joystiq intertwines opinions and news, resulting in what becomes on opinionated piece. As a result, they can be bias towards one or another console. The fact of the matter is that these topics bring hits to the site and since the other consoles have no news they need say something. Take a look back at the last six months, the Wii has had limited game news (outside of sales reports), the XBOX360 had the Bioshock and Halo blitz, and the PS3 had its run of price drops and game reviews. They have to talk about something and this seems to be the one thing that gets comments and viewers, which is why they wash, rinse, and repeat.
Phranctoast @ Oct 9th 2007 10:31AM
Joystiq is construing news for the benefit of slamming the ps3. Theres no reason a singstar topic and a lack of BC needs mentioning in the same topic.
Im suprised they didnt figure out a way of taking a hit at the ps3 lack of BC when mentioning everyday shooter.
"Maybe something along the lines of Everyday shooter looks like those old school game we can no longer play with our new lack of BC ps3" oh shit. I better stop before im offered a job!
1600Points @ Oct 9th 2007 10:37AM
The BC cracks are no different than the RRoD cracks.
Just flash back to all the halo 3 topics involving RRoD lines.
jsn @ Oct 9th 2007 11:08AM
DBX00: I know what joystiq is. Just like most blogs it's news made humerous by opinions, but it's still news. If I just wanted news I'd go to gamespot or one of those rags, but I like the humor that joystiq interjects into their news. The only reason the PS3 crowd are so upset is because their beloved product is an easy target right now, but it's Sony's fault, not Joystiq's or anyone elses.
It's no different than when the RROD was an everyday topic. Joystiq mentioned it in nearly every 360 related entry they made. I support microsoft, hell I make my living off of them, but it didn't upset me because, I have real world concerns and the failures of a multi-billion dollar company are not among them. Why this stuff upsets the Sony zealots so much is hilarious to me.
baby sea tuna @ Oct 9th 2007 10:38AM
"It been three days with every mention of the ps3 having to be about BC, and Im tired of reading abou it."
Fair enough, but I don't ever want to hear another word about the RRoD from you again.
konajinx @ Oct 9th 2007 10:43AM
Indeed. While Microsoft has gone about going to fix the RRoD issue, Sony can't seem to get anything right. And as far as I recall, there were plenty of stories on here regarding the RRoD, people sending them back with regular updates, and more. Some people just choose to be selective with their memory around here.
Phranctoast @ Oct 9th 2007 10:53AM
I dont write for joystiq BST! Me being tired of seeing every mention of the ps3 have to do with BC, and having to censor my fanboyism seems unfair. ;)
In all seriousness
I can't recall the last time I mentioned the RROD, other than saying that if 1 in 3 360's didnt have this issue, Id probably own one. Go search my profile if you want!
While I lean closer towards the ps3, I tend to limit my hate.
Snukadaman @ Oct 9th 2007 2:17PM
People crying about joystiq being biased NEVER made jokes about RROD and other shit ms went thorough I know huh...now the shoe is on the other foot and "its teh biazed" Sony zealots are just about the biggest crybabys on the whole internet man i swear to god. Its not only this site...check a couple of others and notice its the same people whining.
R. @ Oct 9th 2007 2:26PM
@konajink
"Indeed. While Microsoft has gone about going to fix the RRoD issue, Sony can't seem to get anything right."
Ya, like when Sony dropped the price of the PS3 so their flagship product is finally competitive. Tsk tsk tsk. That sure was horrible when, within a year of its release, Sony announced the PS3 would be appreciably cheaper before Christmas for everyone who wants to play *gasp* PS3 games on their PS3 console.
Ya, or how they decided to make new PS3 games instead of focusing on all new software for all the PS2 games I already beat and which look all shitty and Wii-like on my giant TV anyway. I hate when they do stuff like that.
I must remember to comment in every thread that involves Sony, to highlight these clear missteps in case people are thinking of buying a console that doesn't break, have BS proprietary accessories, a similarly lacking BC list on its low-end model, or a disc-devouring drive as loud as a helicopter. Yeesh.
Damn there are some bitter Sony haters on this site. Ban some of these Microsoft stock owning bitches Joystiq. They make me hate your blog.
mfed3 @ Oct 9th 2007 10:43AM
too bad this game is garbage compared to rock band and nobody will buy it anyway
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 9th 2007 10:48AM
i think its popular in europe, but now they can't buy it for xmas
Joshua W @ Oct 9th 2007 10:52AM
Too Bad SingStar is a multi-million dollar game franchise for Sony, and is extremely popular in both Japan and Europe. SingStar Pop has performed very well in the United States, and with the release of Amp'ed and 80's a few weeks ago, the market for such a casual game remains strong. Not everyone wants to purchase a $180 kit just to sing a few songs with friends.
coolforever4537 @ Oct 9th 2007 10:52AM
One less title to add to PS3's "whopping" list of titles by the holiday season.
I can guarentee you there will be several more titles delayed before Christmas too.
Cutty @ Oct 9th 2007 11:01AM
A cheap PS3 is great. A lot of general consumers won't care about the losses, so a £299 PS3 will only be good for them. However, the fact that the better, backwards-compatible model is being phased out is the reason why gamers are in uproar, as it is a complete disregard of their original statements. If/when I eventually did buy a PlayStation 3, I intended for one that could play PS2 games contained a card reader. Thanks to the rapid disappearance of the other models, however, this is no longer possible.
Basically, the lack of backwards-compatibility in the 20GB model isn't the problem, it's the fact that the 60GB version, which is backwards-compatible, is going to be phased out.
Noshino @ Oct 9th 2007 11:05AM
you do realize that he was talking about the joystiq articles and not the user comments right? please, tell me how many news articles about the RRoD have been made in relation to the BC, I mean, in almost 4 days, there have been about what 10 or so? how many articles EXCLUSIVELY about RRoD have been made?
Exactly...
I don't care about user comments made about BC, but at joystiq should be bias enough and just drop it, there have been enough articles about BC in such a short amount of time, ok, we get it joystiq, you guys made a point, now drop it...or are you guys also having your 360s at MS's warehouse back for repair? or you run out of games for your Wii?....
(Sorry for being rude, but such actions are annoying more so when it comes from people who bash companies for using their costumers and yet you just go with the flow of PS3 bash to start flamewars....its getting boring)
