Trauma Center: New Blood box art keeps things simple
In the battle for retail shelf eye candy, there are some games that prefer to go the rout of foil-embossed cardboard slip covers, while others prefer a more subtle, tasteful approach. Take for example Atlus' upcoming Trauma Center: New Blood for the Wii, which replaces the anime styling of the first game's box art with a plain cross as if to say 'I'm the medicine Wii owners have been searching for.'
Interestingly, the box also carries the logo for Nintendo's free Wi-Fi Connection service, though despite the addition of local multiplayer, a quick call to Atlus confirmed that New Blood's online influence will only be felt through leaderboards, meaning if you want to throw down scalpels over a patient with a debilitating hematoma, you'd best be prepared to do it side by side.

"'I'm the medicine Wii owners have been searching for.'"
I thought this read "I'm the 'mediocre' Wii owners have been searching for."
Judging by the first game, it would have been right.
whymog @ Oct 9th 2007 5:19PM
Am I the only person who loved Trauma Center: Second Opinion? (Bear in mind I never played the DS version.)
Mr Khan @ Oct 9th 2007 5:48PM
A lot of Wii owners did (or do, you rarely stop loving a good game)
a lot didn't (don't)
MasterInsan0 @ Oct 9th 2007 5:50PM
You know, somehow I read that "mediocre" part too. I thought it sounded weird.
sheppy2.0 @ Oct 9th 2007 7:07PM
You know, if it wasn't for this game and Raving Rabbits, my Wii launch would have been a bust. Sure, you can CLAIM Twilight Princess but I'm still working on that one. Everytime I sit down to play, the controls junctioned with astrong feeling of Deja Vu pushes me away again.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 9th 2007 8:09PM
Junctioned?
That's funny, 'cause I HATE HATE HATED Raving Rabbids.
sheppy2.0 @ Oct 9th 2007 8:14PM
I don't know... you slapped rabbits for not singing right... to me, that's comedy gold.
Slapstick + Small Animals = Goodness.
I didn't care much for the grossout games but this was the first Wii game I beat.
Raikage (NDF - PK THUNDER RING) @ Oct 9th 2007 5:02PM
Screw this game, Atlus, MAKE MOAR OGRE BATTLE!!!... well publish it...
NATO_Duke @ Oct 9th 2007 5:10PM
Well, this should cut down on those pesky online malpractice suits.
Fernando Rocker (NDF - Water Ring) @ Oct 9th 2007 5:11PM
Its a good the first one? I need an owner opinion.
Raikage (NDF - PK THUNDER RING) @ Oct 9th 2007 5:14PM
Ditto, I've never played it...
NATO_Duke @ Oct 9th 2007 5:16PM
Doesn't come out till the holidays I believe.
Tom @ Oct 9th 2007 5:18PM
It's ok. Got kinda boring after the 5th operation.
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 9th 2007 5:19PM
Once the game made me disarm a bomb with a surgical laser, I was done with it.
XLM @ Oct 9th 2007 5:23PM
Back away from the Wii Fernando, you're starting to sound like Mario.
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Oct 9th 2007 5:24PM
Having played both the DS version and the Wii port, I have to say that yes, both of them are good.
I'm excited with all the new and exciting (Sue me!) features that TC2 has, like multiplayer (which TC didn't need, but its definitely an improvement) and online leaderboards, which again, it doesn't need, but I'll enjoy using.
The storyline is alright. Its no Scrubs, or Dr. House, but its certainly enjoyable, and skippeable.
As for the gameplay? Think of the old Milton Bradley operation game, slap a Wiimote on it (or Stylus), and you're set. Its very arcadey, and I love it because of that.
Fernando Rocker (NDF - Water Ring) @ Oct 9th 2007 5:26PM
Thanks Nushio. Thats all I need to know... Maybe Ill pick the DS version tonight... I will pick the Wii version when its about $30 dlls.
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Oct 9th 2007 5:37PM
Well, considering the Wii version has everything in the DS one, plus a new female character, you should probably pick the Wii version.
Personally, I bought the DS version, lent it to a friend, who then bought the Wii version, and I snatched it from him.
I'll definitely buy TC2 for myself though :P
Chris @ Oct 9th 2007 5:22PM
Good Lord that breaks almost every Photoshop rule known to man. Just needs some lens flare to complete this eyesore.
J-Guy @ Oct 9th 2007 5:29PM
Funny. 20 years ago, Nintendo was completely against having crosses in games. Now they have one on the cover.
Joe Winders @ Oct 9th 2007 7:09PM
Yes, you're right. I guess they don't mind a cross as long as it is the 'medical Christian' cross, and not just the Christian cross that Link carried in the first Zeldas.
As some may know, the symbol for neutral medical providers in Muslim land is the Red Crescent.. None of that Christianity for them! I don't know if their is a Red Star-of-David. I think they just go with the traditional blue.
Nako @ Oct 9th 2007 11:17PM
They actually used (or still do today, I'm not sure) a red star of David but they recently made a new symbol, the Red Crystal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Crystal#The_Red_Crystal
WiNG @ Oct 9th 2007 5:49PM
I don't see any picture on this page.
Fernando I have this game. At first I loved it, but 1/3 through the game they introduce this kind of magical cancer called GUILT. It takes many forms but it can move and shoot lasers and build metal into peoples' bodies. It totally ruins the game, IMO. It was much more fun to do "real" surgeries, and have the difficulty include things like no lighting, or earthquakes, or bad pulse, etc.
And for the record, I personally loved the time bomb stage. The dialogue was hilarious!
WiNG @ Oct 9th 2007 5:50PM
Just saw the cover. Has significantly less cleavage than previous boxart (0%).
Rob Accomando @ Oct 9th 2007 5:52PM
Ok Atlus. Now where is Golden Sun Wii?????
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 9th 2007 8:12PM
Camelot hasn't made it yet?
Agent4187 @ Oct 9th 2007 6:02PM
Well... the box art is ok, I just wish they could have put SOMETHING in that big area that is the red cross. Other than that, it doesn't seem to kill the eyes. I loved Second Opinion, so I'll be happy to pick this one up when it comes out.
Joe Winders @ Oct 9th 2007 7:05PM
Wow, they had to really distort the cross to avoid infringing on Johnson & Johnson's trademark on the Red Cross.
sheppy2.0 @ Oct 9th 2007 7:09PM
Mr Nimblewick....
So let me get this straight. Magically healing broken fragmented bone with gel, ultrasounding to find the super shark cancer tumors, and drawing a star on the screen to enter "bullet time" surgery mode was perfectly fine. But once you had to disarm the bomb, that's over the line?
HAHAHAHAHA
mr nimblewick (SegaDF - Jogurt Ring) @ Oct 9th 2007 8:12PM
Right. You have to hit the spinning plate things and if you miss once (or maybe not, I couldn't really tell if I missed or not) it's game over. That type of gameplay is a deal-breaker for me.
Which is too bad, since I found the rest of the game enjoyable.
J. Kyle @ Oct 9th 2007 7:21PM
I love simple box art (see Oblivion or Jedi Knight 2), but this is pretty bland.
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 9th 2007 7:40PM
Yuck. It's just a big mass of pink. I understand going for simplicity to try and stand out, but everything just sorta runs together in that art.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 9th 2007 9:22PM
I never finished the game. I was too distracted with other games and 2 jobs and such, and now I'm back in school full time again, but hearing about all of these time bombs and earthquakes and shit is getting me interested again. I'll have to plop this sucker back in my Wii.
Nako @ Oct 10th 2007 12:07AM
Banal and hideous. Did someone play with gradients for the first time?
Gamer Named Tim @ Oct 10th 2007 1:42AM
I love the simplistic look. It's very stylish! At least in my opinion. Maybe even... my SECOND opinion! ^_^
Amos @ Oct 10th 2007 2:28AM
I like the box art. It's more attractive than 99% of the other cheest nonesense that'll be on the shelves.
rainking187 @ Oct 10th 2007 3:46AM
Basically the boxart says "We're Atlus. You either buy our niche title releases or you don't. We're not going to waste money on stuff like box art." But seriously, you know what would have been a better cover for this game? ANY cover.
