BrandWeek crowns Nintendo's Fils-Aime marketer of the year
Nintendo of America's ass-kicking, name-taking president Reggie Fils-Aime (pronounce it properly, please) earned top honors this year by being named marketer of the year according to BrandWeek. It's not too surprising, given the console maker's rather storied rise to the top - how many more articles are we going to see about grandparents playing Wii bowling?Other honorees include executives from NBC, Geico and Crocs. The BrandWeek article can be viewed online (.pdf file); Reggie's article starts on page four.

Now the Revolution was a truly cool name. The Wii-wii is too big now to make fun of rationally, but the original name was great.
Reggie has a good stage presence, but I'll wager the engineers and marketing droids are glaring at his award.

Props to the big N...They singlehandedly beat M$ and Sony in 10 months.
By this time next year, they'll probably have a bigger base with the Wii than the other two combined.
All this on Gamecube technology plus teh waggles. Amazing!

"By this time next year, they'll probably have a bigger base with the Wii than the other two combined."
That's definitely a possibility. They successfully broke into a market formerly occupied by board games like Monopoly and Sorry! A few gamer friends have let their purchase languish, but they aren't the ones driving sales now eh?
Really, the only thing that could kill the Wii now is if it really is a fad, Tickle-Me-Elmo style. But if the buying frenzy continues through next year I think that thought can be laid to rest.
As a complete aside, I think this may be the best generation yet. Of course I want my console to dominate, but I think that for once there is a healthy bout of competition all around. Would creative bursts like "Eye of Judgment" be around if the Wii hadn't proven that staying static is bad? Frankly, even if the PS3 doesn't take off, I think the PS4 will be immeasurably better because they were forced to be so. Atari and Nintendo (of yesteryear) learned what happens when you take the status quo for granted.

Unless those wii sales keep dropping like they have in the land of the rising sun...

"Props to the big N...They singlehandedly beat M$ and Sony in 10 months."
It's other way around: "props to MSFT breaking into console market and in two years reaching strong world wise number 2 position/US's number 1 position."

The man is my hero.
Seriously, these people are considering him the best among ALL BUSINESSES, not just videogames.
Nintendo's a tighlty-run ship. Keep it up for the Americans Reggie. :)

He conquered Pizza Hut. Then he conquered VH1. Then he conquered Nintendo to become the first non-Japanese president of NOA. Now he's conquering the world! Panic!

Compared to other console makers PR campaigns, input of Fils-Aime can be better described as "didn't intervened".
Because if read all what Sony PR said in the last two years, you would see they did so many U turns, that you cannot even believe them anymore - if one wanted to.
On other side, I think that MSFT' Moore did more and better job. As I see it, being in charge of RROD issue damage control and not ruining completely the face of company is pretty hefty achievement.

Smart marketing did the trick. Brought new life to a old system by sending a positive message without any jabs at the other fellas. That's amazing!

He deserves it!
