Gears of War art director directing Thundercats movie
This just in from our "URGENT BREAKING VIDEO GAME NEWS" department: Warner Bros. has tapped Jerry O'Flaherty – art director on Epic's Gears of War and finalist in the North American name rhyming championships – to direct their upcoming Thundercats feature film. ... Hey, where are you going? Don't worry, it's going to be all CG, no Hollywood actors parading about in furry costumes. Of course, CG is an arena O'Flaherty has a fair bit of experience in, having worked on Gears as well as Unreal Tournament 3 and the Command and Conquer series. Worried this video game vet won't do the Thundercats tale (nyuk) justice?
Fret not! O'Flaherty plans to remain faithful to the franchise, which Variety describes as "a group of humanoid cats who must flee the planet of Thundera, which is destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer bent on killing them off." As long as they work in Mumm-Mutt, you won't hear any complaints from us.

THUNDERCATS HO!!!!!!!
h2c @ Oct 10th 2007 10:39PM
Ever since I realized Panthro was voiced by Cliff Huxtable's dad, I never looked at either show quite the same.
Also, Mumm-Ra > Skeletor.
Dammit I want my childhood back.
Chameleon @ Oct 11th 2007 11:09AM
"Dammit I want my childhood back."
Amen brother, amen ....
Kyle @ Oct 10th 2007 10:43PM
And at this point, all of his credibility was lost.
Gavin @ Oct 10th 2007 10:52PM
And it will suck...
Ska Oreo @ Oct 10th 2007 11:51PM

ThornedVenom @ Oct 11th 2007 2:19AM

CaptainAmericaX @ Oct 10th 2007 10:58PM
I'd rather see a BRAND NEW RONIN WARRIORS MOVIE.
Yeah I know the chances are nill....but I still hope.
Frenzy @ Oct 11th 2007 12:27AM
Ronin Warriors kicks major f'in ass.
Jerk Face @ Oct 11th 2007 10:26AM
Ronin Warriors is really average.
There. I fixed it for you.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 10th 2007 11:07PM
ahaha, hollywood is still trying to remake all of our childhood and profit from nostalgia
Word of the street(IDF-Digital Ruler). @ Oct 10th 2007 11:28PM
Let me rephrase that
Hollywood is still trying to rape our childhood memories with poor remakes of all our favorite cartoons by throwing in a lousy script that only makes a few references to the old cartoons and hype it up with some modern culture references to get the younger crowd but only ends making a putrid movie out of itself but still getting profit from nostalgia.
Unless is named TMNT.
Ska Oreo @ Oct 10th 2007 11:54PM
Agreed. I don't care what anyone says, TMNT was a beast movie.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 11th 2007 12:06AM
hell yeah, and secret of the ooze was still decent too, except for "go ninja"
mutated shredder was pimp
Ska Oreo @ Oct 11th 2007 12:10AM
Well I was mostly referring to the recent movie. That movie was awesome. Though I have to rewatch the old ones, but from what I remember, it seemed kind of corny. just seeing the turtles dance with vanilla Ice gives me the chills.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 11th 2007 12:18AM
recent movie?
Ska Oreo @ Oct 11th 2007 1:34AM
ummm yeah TMNT. That was released this year.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 11th 2007 1:53AM
huh, guess i didnt see the ads for it
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Oct 11th 2007 6:24AM
TMNT was badass. It had the epic Turtle battle I'd been waiting my whole life to see. And Patrick Stewart voicing the villain? COME ON. Perfect.
But yes, all non-TMNT childhood cash-ins suck.
Negativecool @ Oct 10th 2007 11:31PM
Thundercats were 1337 when I was a kid...hopefully this director doesn't confuse which project is which...cause...hah..that would be messy.
dustandechoes91 @ Oct 10th 2007 11:51PM

Negativecool @ Oct 11th 2007 12:03AM
No need, she was a stanky booty ho. I'd hit that.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 11th 2007 12:07AM
did you see that robot chicken a couple weeks ago where she licked herself? then mumm-ra died, lol
randomshagz @ Oct 11th 2007 12:29AM
Feel the magic, hear the Roar...
It was all about the ThunderTank.
Tacoman @ Oct 11th 2007 12:58AM
The dog was named Maw-mutt. I'll be happy as long as they get Mumm-Ra's voice right so it's all like "MUMM-HA-RAHHH!"
And since the original cartoon was made to sell toys, it'll be interesting to see what's in store for the marketing this time around.
Trashman @ Oct 11th 2007 1:30AM
Can not wait for this movie. Very very happy there are going the CG route and not the live action crap
ThornedVenom @ Oct 11th 2007 2:21AM
But we need more furry global domination! Live action TMNT doesn't count! xD
Crono (NDF - French Taunting from Holy Grail Ring) @ Oct 11th 2007 9:31AM
I dunno, I think thundercats is one of the few anthropomorphic cartoons that could be done with real actors. Just get the makeup people from "Cats" and you'd be golden.
Trashman @ Oct 11th 2007 1:31AM
TMNT was awesome for all you haters
Ska Oreo @ Oct 11th 2007 1:35AM
AGREED!!!!!!!!
Alex @ Oct 11th 2007 1:58AM
They'd better include Snarf!
Ska Oreo @ Oct 11th 2007 2:11AM
oh please god no. That would ruin the entire movie.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Oct 11th 2007 2:19AM
no, it would make it authentic
ThornedVenom @ Oct 11th 2007 2:22AM
Thanks for the nightmares. It's like bringing Tingle in a Zelda movie. xD
Anticrawl @ Oct 11th 2007 3:22AM
Am I the only one who despised the Thundercats as a kid? I was a perfectly normal innocent kid until that terrible, horrible show raped my innocense and had me contemplating suicide. I really hate that damn show, I hope the movie bombs, so people atleast may back off our other hollowed childhood shows like GI Joe. The Thundercats though, they can destroy it all they want, and while they're at it go ahead and ruin any memories of Johnny Quest for me, yet another terrible cartoon of its time.
ThornedVenom @ Oct 11th 2007 4:51AM
Poor you: my childhood was made of Batman, TMNT and Power Rangers. ;P
capt_carl @ Oct 11th 2007 7:02AM
Sword of Omens! Give me sight beyond sight!
The sword shows me this movie will be made of fail.
baby sea tuna @ Oct 11th 2007 8:21AM
Please keep the Berbil bear things and the Thundercousins out of this one!
BananaBoat @ Oct 11th 2007 8:35AM
Anyone else sad that it will be CG and not hand drawn art? CG has come a loooonggggg way from Transformers: Beast Wars, but it's still go a ways to go before it matches meticulously, professionally hand-drawn animations.
Oh well, this is another round of "Hollywood Rapes my Childhood"
ZippyDSMlee @ Oct 11th 2007 9:29AM
TMNT was bearable compared to the off the wall and mindless drivel other IP/CPs fall into, if they can do it with wit and swagger it will be a good movie.
I don't think the US has the attention span for "anime" unless bwebs and blood is involved, I would love to see a TC movie thats drawn better than recent anime but it ain't goign to happen all one can hope is the CG designs are not made of fail and the story dose not rape you in your sleep.
Simon @ Oct 11th 2007 12:15PM
Crap, I always expected it to be live action. Not another cg feature film, have mercy. At least if they would draw it by hand like the originals.
Anyway... as long as it's good it can make justice.
And I hope it won't be focused on really small ages like the series, since the generations that grew up with them got a bit older now.
