Though we haven't been able to obtain a copy and confirm, the latest issue of Game Informer is rumored to have a feature piece on Shadow of the Colossus developer Team Ico's latest PS3 title. The game, reportedly called The Last Canyon, will have you exploring a desert similar to Death Valley, searching for "something" (that part not revealed yet).
The protagonist's method of transportation will consist of a simple, non-motorized glider that you can mount and dismount. From the alleged excerpt: "From what we've seen there's never before been that feeling of flying around in the sky, combined with this scale of environment."
Clever rumor or legitimate clipping? We won't know until the next GI hits newsstands.
Update: The original source of the rumor doesn't lend it much credibility. We'll just go back to begging Ueda to hurry up then.

Hmmm... they should call the glider Mehve and the canyon should be full of wind.

Sounds interesting. Regardless whether it is true or otherwise, Team ICO's new game will be the one that tips me over to the PS3.

Yeah, I was excited about the PS3 when I first caught glimpse of Uncharted, but now that looks pretty blah. Maybe this will be the game to get me to fork over some moolah. That and Little Big Planet.

Please let this rumor be true.
Can they pack in SOTC and ICO as well?
I guess Orange Box spoiled me...

Looking at their track record, this game should be excellent. Just thinking about it now...If it's a glider, you should probably just hear the wind...No motor sounds or anything...Just floating around...Vast environment...Sounds great.

Haha. I think it sounds fun, if done properly. ;o

The concept reminds me of a different game. Maybe no one knows what I'm talking about, but there was a great (albeit short) level in Far Cry that had you flying around a huge canyon on a hang glider. Just some stupid fun.

ouch, that's one of the few ps3 games that has me interested too! admittedly I haven't saw much about it though.

SOTC did an amazing job of creating a feeling of isolation and a vast landscape on PS2 hardware. Bump that up to a next gen title...should be amazing.

Great, maybe they'll actually give it a decent framerate this time.

@ abscissa, not all games need 60 fps buddy. I played that game to death and i felt it was quite responsive. it also doesn't have to be 60 fps to make it look good as well, and this game definitely moved me with its epic setting and battles. don't movies play in 24fps? eh correct me if i'm wrong. =\

Pfft, who said anything about 60fps? I'd have been perfectly happy if Shadow of the Colossus actually DID run as fast as 24-30fps (And yes, movies run at 24fps, although the nature of film makes it an apples-to-oranges comparison).
I thoroughly enjoyed Ico, even despite the lower-than-average (even at the time) framerate. But then Shadow of the Colossus came along and took it to a whole new level. No exaggeration: I hadn't seen a framerate that bad since back in the mid-nineties when the trendy thing was to do [crappy] 3D just for 3D's sake (and yes, I play a lot of games).

Maybe I'm not seeing this framerate "problem" the way as everyone else. Perhaps it's because I played NES and SNES games more than any other game, but I've yet to have any issues with frame rates.
Besides, if your only complaint about a game is something as frivolous as frame rate, you're just getting ri-goddamn-diculous.

If you've played more NES and SNES games than other games than that's probably why you haven't had many issues with framerates. Those game only had occasional slowdowns. For the most part, they were a smooth 30fps. If you consider framerate to be frivolous then I suggest you play a few more action games that run at or below 15fps.
Don't make me out to be a framerate whore: As I *thought* I already stated, I don't give a crap if a game's framerate is anywhere from 30 to 100+. Anything above about 25 (sustained, not peak) is perfectly playable. But the further you drop below that the more it affects playability. Any game programmer worth their salt will tell you this.
Additionally, why is it ridiculous to have exactly one complaint about a game? How many complaints do I have to have against a game before I'm allowed to stop pretending the game is flawless and could not be improved upon, and how big do those additional drawbacks have to be? Did I say "Shadow of the Colossus sucks because it has a bad framerate?" No, I did not. I just said that it had a bad framerate and made a (admittedly sarcastic) comment that I hoped their next game would fix that.

And yet, if it were on the Wii everyone would be clamoring about how great it would be to have to do the exact same thing. Gotta love double standards :p

I don't know how I feel about this. There just better be a damsel in distress in this one, because that's what really made Ico and SOTC so endearing.

"I think it was more about comaraderie & attachment. In ICO it was the girl and in SOTC it was the horse."
Nothing like camaraderie with a girl and a horse to make a good game. Perhaps they'll add a midget in there too this time.

It appears to be a tech demo now. Im really excited to see what they do with this game before it comes out. That and all the user created stuff should make it one of the coolest games to come out in recent history.
